"Grandfather, dinner is ready at home, and we haven't started eating yet. Come join us!"
At that moment, Xia Muxin had just finished serving the last dish, Poached Fish. As she sprinkled some Scallions into the broth, the fragrant aroma made everyone in the house stretch their necks to peek.
The Wu Family had been aware of their situation from the beginning. Summer Forest and Aunt Xia had long intended to persuade them, but Xia Muxin stopped them, leaving Songzi waiting outside. When he caught a whiff of the scallion fragrance, he shouted out loud.
Songzi was always obedient to his sister, and sure enough, upon smelling the aroma, he called out loudly at the Wu Family's doorstep.

"Muxin, Songzi, I'm not hungry. You two go home and eat. Ah! It's getting dark; don't come out lest you run into something unclean."
With the Wu Family acting this way, Summer Old Man dared not go for dinner. Just seeing his grandchildren was already enough for him; he waved his hand dismissively. The "unclean things" he referred to were the Wu Family themselves. His greatest concern was that they would find ways to harm his family.
Upon hearing this, Xia Muxin felt a pang in her heart. Here was a good man being forced into such a situation by the Wu Family. In her memories, her grandfather was gentle and refined, always smiling kindly; he was someone respected in the village. Yet because of the Wu Family incident, he became the target of scorn from thousands, ultimately being compelled to marry into the Wu Family. Only after that did the villagers regret how they had lived half their lives without recognizing true character, leading to harm against the Xia Family.
The die had been cast, and there was no point in regretting it now.
As always, she acted according to her own temperament. Without a second thought, she stepped forward, wrapped her arm around the Old Man Summer's, and affectionately leaned against him, saying:
"Grandpa, just go ahead. It's not like you're eating someone else's food. Besides, our family earns our own living with our own hands. Who would dare say otherwise? And even if they did, it's just envy because their children lack the ability. If their dishes aren't tasty, that's their problem. Xia Muxin's sharp tongue delivered her words with precision, cleverly belittling the Wu family while raising her voice slightly when mentioning her own father, as if afraid others wouldn't hear clearly.
The neighbors around them had initially intended to offer some words of persuasion, but once Xia Muxin spoke up, they all fell silent and cast appreciative glances at her.
