And it was a complete mess.
“Muxin...” Of course, Xia Muxin’s indifferent demeanor worried her family. Summer Forest sighed, watching the Wu Family members interact like a well-rehearsed play, her heart sinking even further, yet she hesitated to speak.
“Mother, Brother, do you understand?” Xia Muxin asked as she flipped through the Fava Beans in the wooden tub, addressing Aunt Xia and Xia Tieshu.
There was still an hour before the Orchid Beans needed to be cut open. She had already taught Aunt Xia and Xia Tieshu how to do it step by step. She needed to head up the mountain soon to check on the Golden Python.
“Yes, Muxin, don’t worry, we’ve got it down,” replied Xia Tieshu. Although he wasn’t very articulate, Xia Muxin noticed that he learned things exceptionally quickly and had an impressive memory. Moreover, Songzi didn’t seem as rigid as the villagers; sometimes she found herself questioning the genetics of this family. Her father, Xia Tieshu, was undoubtedly local, but her mother had no known relatives and didn’t even have a name. As a modern special forces soldier, these thoughts occasionally made her doubt.
However, such doubts were fleeting; after all, dealing with the immediate situation was the priority.
“Alright, I’ll leave it to you,” she said lightly as she withdrew her hand from the tub. Meeting Summer Forest’s worried gaze, she reassured him, “Father, don’t worry; when soldiers come, we’ll block them; when water comes, we’ll dam it.”
With that, she picked up a piece of Grass Rope from the corner by the door and called out, “Father, Songzi, let’s go earn some money.”
With no other choice, Summer Forest followed in Xia Muxin’s footsteps.
The three of them ascended the mountain. Xia Muxin continued to keep the father and son duo at bay while she made her way to the meeting spot with the Golden Python.
The Golden Python lay lazily on the leaves, basking in the sun. Upon seeing Xia Muxin approach, it quickly flicked its tail and moved closer to her, occasionally rubbing against her.
Xia Muxin reached out to pat its round belly and scoffed, "You really are a colorful snake. Luckily for me, I haven't fully grown yet. If I become a stunning beauty in the future, will you be competing with my suitors every day?"
The Golden Python looked at her in confusion for a moment, seemingly indifferent to her profound words. It then flicked its tail and slithered toward the bushes. After a while, noticing that Xia Muxin hadn't followed, it turned its head back to look at her, as if inviting her to join.
Feeling bold, Xia Muxin decided to follow it, grabbing her backpack as she went.
"Wow... is all this for me?" she exclaimed in surprise when she spotted a mountain of Game Meat not far ahead. She couldn't help but think she was seeing things.
The Golden Python ignored her excitement and simply picked up one piece of Game Meat after another, tossing them in her direction.
Xia Muxin was overjoyed, unable to close her mouth in disbelief—there were more than twenty pieces!
She filled her backpack with Game Meat and tied up the leftovers with Grass Rope. Excitedly, she ran over to the Golden Python and without hesitation gave it a playful peck on the head. "Haha, looks like I've really struck gold!"
Afterward, the Golden Python led her to its cave and communicated through its gaze that she could come visit anytime she wanted. Of course, this was just Xia Muxin's interpretation. After playing around for a while, she reluctantly left.
