You Were Born a Nobleman, Chapter Seventy-Seven: Better to Hang on the Southeast Branch
Softy smiled, and Lang Ye felt even more frustrated. Shu Que Wu Pan, with his head down, would definitely have his tail tucked if he had one, wanting to disappear from Softy's sight. Softy said in a crisp voice, "What, you think you can just leave like this? Don't think I'll clean up your mess."
"I..." Lang Ye opened his mouth but realized that nothing he said could salvage his domineering image.
"You, what about you? Hurry up and come in to clean up. If you don't do a good job today, don't even think about leaving." Softy went in first and tossed a standard cleaning ball to Lang Ye.
Wolf King had no choice but to follow behind the little beauty who barely reached his chest and get to work.
Softy handed Lang Ye a palm leaf fan, instructing him to fan away the smoke while she squatted in front of the stove, pulling out some of the firewood that Lang Ye had stuffed inside. Then she blew with a fire blower, and it ignited!
Wow, I didn't expect you to be so good at blowing, Softy!
Lang Ye wanted to bury his face in his pants; of course, he often did that when he was a wolf!
Lang Ye initially wanted to impress the beauty with a smile, but it seemed he had thrown her off at her grandmother's house. However, it appeared that Softy had never been angry from the beginning and was surprisingly amiable towards him. This realization made Wolf King want to wag his tail.
Tang Zisu found it incredibly difficult to enjoy this bowl of late chicken egg noodles. After swallowing it, the warmth spreading from her stomach almost made her cry. Just as she was about to pick it up and slurp it down, there was a loud knocking at the door that nearly made her drop the bowl.
Every day like this—can anyone live in peace? Even eating a meal is not easy!
Softy was just about to open the door when the handy Lang Ye quickly stood up and said, "I'll go."
The young man did well; he truly was Softy's devoted little assistant.
As soon as Lang Ye opened the door, Zhang Ermao rushed in and immediately hugged Lang Ye's waist. "Tan Lang, you made it hard for me to find you."
Lang Ye grabbed the delicate-looking Zhang Ermao by the collar and lifted him up. "Zhang Ermao, are you looking for a beating or what? There's a tree over there; if you don't want to die, just hang yourself from the southeast branch."
"Tan Lang, you really are so heartless, forgetting the old for the new." Zhang Ermao bit on a handkerchief, his eyes watery as he blew pink bubbles.
Lang Ye suppressed the nausea churning in his stomach and slapped him across the face. "Zhang Ermao, what kind of drunken madness are you having this early in the morning?"
Zhang Ermao held Lang Ye's hand against his chest. "This burning heart of mine already belongs to Tan Lang. Can you hear it screaming? If you love me, hug me; if you love me, kiss me; if you love me, then let's do it."
"Get lost." Yet, Lang Ye couldn't shake off his hand. Zhang Ermao's bony fingers clung to Lang Ye's chest like an octopus's suckers, with a faint pain transmitting through the skin into his flesh.
Lang Ye pinched his wrist bone, and with a crack, it sounded like breaking a dry twig. "You are not Zhang Ermao. Tell me, who are you?"
Zhang Ermao immediately switched to a shrill female voice. "Of course I'm not; I am your Jiao Jiao!"
"Get lost. How dare a little demon like you play tricks on me? Are you looking for death?"
"I naturally have no life left. Tan Lang, do you want to accompany me in the Underworld as an Immortal Couple?"
"Lang Ye, be careful; she is a Cursed Spirit of a Century and very fierce." Softy opened his yin-yang eyes, and his face immediately turned pale.
"Little girl, I didn't expect you to have some skills. Your body born in the dark months and days is quite a good vessel for me. This Zhang Ermao has body odor; it's disgusting!"
So it turns out she's a ghost with taste!
"You dare? If you touch her, I'll make sure you'll regret being a ghost." Lang Ye's hand shifted to grip Zhang Ermao's neck, his face filled with fierce determination.
The Vengeful Spirit possessing Zhang Ermao was so scared that his voice trembled, yet he still managed to flirt: "Tan Lang, don't be so fierce! I can't take it! Please spare me." This just proves that even ghosts fear wicked people.
"Lang Ye, ask him what he's doing here. No ghost would come to the Shrine during the day without a reason," Kong Xuan said, standing with his hands behind his back, deep in thought.
"What are you doing here?"
"Tan Lang, I like you! I really want to take you back to my place."
Kong Xuan snorted coldly: "Lang Ye, it seems Zhang Ermao won't survive this. We might as well chop him up and leave him with nothing to rely on."
"No, no, no! My name is Yuan Maiden. I'm here to propose marriage; you can't harm me."
"Propose marriage? You've got the wrong place! The palace of the King of Hell is ten zhang underground, filled with all kinds of ghosts for you to choose from. Is this where you should be?" Lang Ye thought about throwing this stubborn ghost into a pot of oil.
"I'm telling the truth! It's not for me; it's for our king, the newly appointed Peacock Mountain Mountain Deity."
"Nonsense! What is he compared to a Mountain Deity? He's colluding with you Evil Spirits," Lang Ye spat back fiercely.
"If you let me go, I'll show you the betrothal gifts. Our king said that once you see the gifts, you'll definitely agree to marry your priestess off."
Tang Zisu interjected: "Why me? Shouldn't it be the Divine Lady who is loved by everyone and admired by all?"
Kong Xuan seemed to read her thoughts and held her hand gently: "Don't worry; I wouldn't want you to marry anyone else."
When did you start playing games? It's simply annoying!
"No matter what betrothal gifts there are, our priestess will not marry. Why not choose the man in front of you instead? I have no objections to marrying him."
"Wow, Kong Xuan, you can't play like this. Not to mention I'm just a big guy with no past or future, but what kind of king do they have? If he turns out to be some kind of bull-headed monster, just looking at him would make me sick, let alone getting married."
Lang Ye's vulgarity didn't bother Tang Zisu much, but Softy blushed and shot Lang Ye a fierce glare.
At that moment, Zhang Ermao was released from Lang Ye's grip, and he waved his fingers in the air, creating a vivid image in the void.
Tang Zisu couldn't help but exclaim; how was such a high-definition 3D image even possible? If this technology were brought back to modern times, it would be a groundbreaking milestone in film history!
As she gradually made out the faces in the image, she recognized Little Fish and Jumping. They seemed to be trapped in a closed cave, covered in blood and dirt, clearly having been beaten.
"You..." Tang Zisu felt a chill rising from her feet. She grasped Kong Xuan's hand and shook it for help.
"Don't worry, it might just be their trick," Kong Xuan whispered softly in Tang Zisu's ear to comfort her.
"These two broke into the Mountain God Temple last night and offended our king. We originally planned to throw them to the beasts as food, but since they are your people, the king said that as long as the priestess is willing to marry, they can be returned as a gift."
Tang Zisu was taken aback: "Which king are you talking about? What does he see in me? Can't I just refuse?"
"Our king said that you are all pillars of Peacock Mountain. Instead of competing for your followers, it would be better to unite and benefit the people together."
"No way! Is that even possible? Your king must have grown up drinking something weird! I'm a priestess and a devotee of Buddha; I can't get married, do you understand?"
"You don't have to marry because our king is not human."
Tang Zisu felt powerless; it was like talking to a wall. She shook Kong Xuan's hand: "Kong Xuan, you tell them I don't have to marry."
Kong Xuan exchanged a glance with Lang Ye and looked at Tang Zisu with a gentle smile: "I've changed my mind. She's right; marrying would be beneficial for you."
Tang Zisu couldn't believe her ears. "Hey, aren't you a woman? How can you change your attitude faster than a woman?"
Kong Xuan scratched her palm lightly, and Tang Zisu immediately understood, but she didn't know how to continue the act.
Kong Xuan continued, "We have agreed to this marriage. From now on, we are all one family. You must take good care of those two; do not neglect them. You should return and report back. We'll discuss the details."
"Alright, we will send someone to welcome the new Wife at midnight tonight. You all need to be prepared." After saying this, she waved her hand, and the phoenix crown and bridal robes appeared in Tang Zisu's arms.
The female ghost left, throwing a flirtatious glance at Lang Ye. He grimaced at her with a silly face, only to turn around and see Softy glaring at him, prompting him to scratch his head and chuckle foolishly.
Kong Xuan slapped him on the head. "You look ridiculous when you laugh. Is this really the time for laughter?"
"Well, we can't let people cry either."
"Softy, you should go to Butcher Zhi's house. They must be going crazy looking for Little Fish and Jumping. Don't mention being caught; just make up any excuse—it's up to you."
"Okay," Softy replied. She added, "That Vengeful Spirit was about to devour Zhang Ermao's soul. If we don't get him out soon, Zhang Ermao will die."
"This unlucky fool! Little Fish and Jumping got drunk and went to the Mountain God Temple. What is he doing there? Why does he always have to be involved when something happens?" Tang Zisu complained irritably.
"But we can't just watch Zhang Ermao die, can we?"
Kong Xuan thought for a moment and said, "Softy, right now we can't harm that Vengeful Spirit, so we can't save Zhang Ermao either."
"I can do it. When she comes tonight, you all don't need to worry; I'll save him." Softy stomped her foot, determined.
Lang Ye sensed something was off. "Softy, what are you planning to do? I won't allow you to do anything reckless."
"Don't worry about it." Softy tossed her braid and left, leaving Lang Ye with a slender silhouette.
Watching Softy leave, Kong Xuan said, "Lang Ye, do you have any idea who this Mountain Deity is?"
Lang Ye nodded and then shook his head. "Don't ask me; it's annoying. That crybaby won't do anything foolish, right?"
"Idiot! First think about how to deal with the Mountain Deity; otherwise, how will you protect your woman? You need to go find Pojun and Mei Xiao for help."
Lang Ye was taken aback. He had known Kong Xuan for thousands of years and had always been a lone wolf, never seeking help from anyone. Now he was actively looking for assistance; the contrast was too stark. So, Lang Ye began to tear at Kong Xuan's face and clothes.
Kong Xuan swatted his hands away. "What are you doing?"
"Just checking if you've been possessed by some monster; this isn't your style!"
Kong Xuan turned to Tang Zisu, his gentle gaze like a net that ensnared her within his reach. "Because this time their target is Tang Zisu, I can't let her have even the slightest mishap."
Lang Ye gasped in shock. "How sour! Damn it, I'm out of here to see what that clumsy beast Pojun is up to."
Tang Zisu was somewhat taken aback. "Kong Xuan, you..."
"Be good; you don't need to say anything. Just trust me and listen to what I say. Jumping and Little Fish must be saved; even for your sake, we need to eliminate the Mountain Deity. You stay here in the Shrine and wait for me while I deal with that beast."
"No way! I won't allow you to take risks; we still don't know what kind of monster it is."
Kong Xuan pinched her cheek. "Silly Goose, when it comes to monsters, who is stronger than me?"
"That's different! You don't have any magic now; you're just like a mortal. No showing off; I won't allow it."
"High Priestess is so domineering. If I go, wouldn't it be better? That way, I won't have to bother you all day."
Tang Zisu pushed him away, her eyes reddening. "Kong Xuan, what time is it? Why are you still causing trouble? When have I ever bothered you? You can't be unreasonable every time. If you keep this up, I will marry that Mountain Deity. From then on, we'll be far apart and never interact again."
"You dare." Kong Xuan's gaze was wild, sparks flying. "If you dare to marry anyone, no matter who it is, I will set Peacock Valley on fire."
"You... you're being unreasonable." Tang Zisu's dark eyes were misty with tears, her lips pouting as if she were about to cry.
Kong Xuan felt a surge of warmth in his heart and hugged her tightly, leaning down to kiss her!
The person in his arms only needed a single tear to make him feel pain deep in his bones.
The faint fragrance of the girl lingered in his nostrils, making Kong Xuan unable to resist deeply capturing and seizing her, wishing he could swallow her whole from lips to heart so that he wouldn't fear losing her.
Tang Zisu trembled with excitement, going limp in the man's strong embrace, allowing him to take whatever he wanted from her.
The autumn wind rustled the window paper, but because of this kiss, the gloomy sky also became enchanting. Layers of peaks and undulating hills were enveloped in a captivating charm.
Next, they embraced and naturally rolled onto the bed. Then Kong Xuan took out his tools and did this and that with Tang Zisu! How could that be possible? In this extraordinary time, the deeply passionate Peacock King still had the presence of mind to pinch Tang Zisu's nape. Tang Zisu felt darkness envelop her vision and fainted, a familiar sensation.
Could it not be so violent every time?
Kong Xuan carried Tang Zisu to the bed, covered her with a blanket, and sprinkled some Dreamflower powder under her nose. After doing all this, he gazed at Tang Zisu for a long time.
"Silly Goose, I've done something to make you angry again. This time, please don't be mad? You're not my calamity or my burden; you're the one I, Kong Xuan, want to protect with my life. Be good and wait for me to come back."
Kong Xuan leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on Tang Zisu's forehead before putting on the bright red wedding dress brought by the Vengeful Spirit.
In the copper mirror, the red attire accentuated her beauty like a lotus flower, so when Softy entered, she almost knelt down.
"Divine Maiden, you look so beautiful!"
"Softy, is that the main point?"
Well, to be honest, she really didn't want to say it, but the size of Divine Maiden's outfit was completely wrong for her; the sleeves were short and the shoulders were tight, which looked quite strange.
"Hehe, if you like it, I can make you a new one."
"It's too late for that. I'll just make do with this. It's getting dark, and I'm waiting for them to come for the wedding."
Unaware of the calendar, she didn't know that tonight was actually an ominous day. The night was so dark that one couldn't see their fingers in front of them, and the wind blowing through the autumn leaves sounded like a requiem from the River of Forgetfulness.
As Lang Ye had not returned for a long time, Softy was very anxious.
Kong Xuan, dressed in a red wedding gown, said lightly, "Even if you dig a hole in the ground, Lang Ye won't pop out from there."
"Where on earth has he gone? Now is the time when we need help, yet he's off slacking."
"Are you blaming him? Isn't it better that he doesn't come back? It would be just what you want since you dislike him so much." Kong Xuan smirked wickedly.
"I can still distinguish between big matters and small matters no matter how much I dislike him. If you can marry High Priestess, surely I know how to handle things too?"
"You know best, Softy. Lang Ye is a rare person with genuine sincerity; don't take advantage of his affection for you to bully him."
"What are you talking about? Affection and bullying? I... I..."
"Just hide in there, they're coming."
Softy stiffened, pulling on Kong Xuan's sleeve. "No, I have to help you."
Kong Xuan shook her off. "What can you do? Don't make things worse. If anything happens to you, how will I explain it to Lang Ye?"
"I don't need you to explain anything. I have to save Zhang Ermao." Softy suddenly dashed out, and Kong Xuan raised her hand but couldn't catch her.
The door swung wide open, and the fierce wind lifted his red skirt. Well, everyone has their own fate!
Softy flung open the door, revealing a group of expressionless men in black carrying a flower sedan chair. But Softy saw the rotting flesh and broken entrails beneath their pristine clothing; they were just a bunch of ghosts.
The Vengeful Spirit occupying Zhang Ermao's body nearly drooled at the sight of Softy. It was night and the evil energy was strong, enhancing her powers, making her yearn for Softy's female form.
Softy said, "Yuan Maiden, let Zhang Ermao go. His soul is fading; he's going to die."
"What do I care if he dies? By the way, where's my Tan Lang?" Yuan Maiden, seeing that Lang Ye was absent, couldn't be bothered to act coy anymore.
"Let him go, and come into my body," Softy stated firmly, as if she had made a significant decision.
Female Intestine scrutinized her and clicked her tongue. "You? Forget it. You have magical artifacts on you, and you've been promised to the Buddhist sect since childhood; I can't enter."
"I'll take off the Buddhist artifact. Today is a day of evil energy, and I'm an extremely yin person. Can't you come in?"
Yuan Maiden was cunning; she shook her head. "Why would you have such good intentions? Cutting flesh to feed an eagle? I don't believe it."
Softy grew anxious. "If you won't come, fine. I've already taken off my Buddhist bone chain. Will you come or not?"
The scent that ghosts love wafted around Softy, and Yuan Maiden was particularly fond of her soft body. Moreover, Tan Lang seemed to care for her deeply, making it much easier to fulfill her desires while residing in this body.
Whether human or ghost, greed is the greatest taboo. A greedy heart can lead to ruin; a moment of greed can destroy a lifetime.
Yuan Maiden spun out from Zhang Ermao's body, causing Zhang Ermao to collapse to the ground, his face turning a ghastly gray as if he were dead.
Yuan Maiden was not lacking in beauty; even as a Vengeful Spirit, she possessed an enchanting grace. She cast a flirtatious glance at Softy, which pierced Softy's heart like a sharp sword.
Softy fell to the ground, her body convulsing as she emitted cries of pain.
Kong Xuan frowned as he watched everything unfold before him. He sighed inwardly, Lang Ye, the girl you like is certainly not an easy one. Given time, her abilities in exorcism and soul cultivation will surely make her a leader among the three realms.
Softy stopped shaking and slowly got up, speaking in another voice, "Why are you still here? I can't seem to take over your entire being."
"Shut up. If you move again, I'll strangle you. I'm giving you my body now; take us to see your king. You little monster, don't think about playing tricks on me. Now that our spirits are intertwined, if we die, we die together."
Yuan Maiden's soul felt as if it had been pierced by a spear and pinned to Softy's soul. This old woman had fallen for a little girl's trick; it just goes to show that staying as a ghost for too long can dull one's wits.
"Softy, are you okay?" Kong Xuan asked.
"I'm fine; at least I'm not weaker than her."
"Good, then let's set off now."
"Wait, what about the witch? What about our king's bride?" Softy's body let out another shrill scream.
"Shut your mouth and mind your own business. Just lead your ghost along." Softy used some unknown method that made Yuan Maiden within her emit a muffled groan.
“Softy, once this matter is settled, I will teach you the Ghost Summoning and Soul Refining Technique. With your talent, it would be a shame not to use it.”
Kong Xuan sat in the Ghost Sedan, setting off under the guidance of Softy, who was possessed by Yuan Maiden.
At this moment, Tang Zisu was asleep and even dreaming. In her dream, Little Fish and Jumping were flying in the sky with a kitchen knife. Little Fish said, “Look, the moon.”
However, in reality, they could not see the moon; they were trapped in the Underworld Black Hole, surrounded only by ghosts and darkness.
“Little Fish, Little Fish.” Jumping raised her stiff arm and groped for the person beside her in the dark.
“Okay, I heard you. Stop pinching me; it hurts,” Little Fish replied with a whimper.
Jumping placed her hand under her nose; the strong smell of blood was more intense than that of freshly slaughtered pigs. She hurriedly asked, “There was a problem when you took that whip for me; it felt like being stabbed with a knife, and there was so much blood.”
Little Fish sounded weak and spoke in a fragmented manner: “Auntie... you just realized? That whip is a living thing with fangs. I literally tore off some flesh; how could there not be blood?”
“Then you must regret taking that whip for me now. Little Fish, don’t worry; I will be grateful and won’t hit you in the future.”
Upon hearing this, Little Fish tilted her head and thought it might be better to just die; what kind of logic was that? Jumping, I really can’t deal with you.
Not hearing a response from Little Fish made Jumping anxious: “Hey, what are you thinking? I know this time it was my fault for bringing you to practice your courage at Mountain God Temple. How was I supposed to know there was a monster inside? Besides, you took that whip for me voluntarily; I didn’t ask you to.”
Little Fish snorted softly in the room; fine, reasoning with Zhu Tiao Tiao was like talking romance with a pig—there was no common language.
“Jumping, what do you think it will do to us?”
“I don’t know. It won’t eat us alive, right?”
"Ah! If you wanted to eat, you should have done it earlier. Why wait until now? Use your brain."
"Little Rascal, are you getting restless again?" Jumping raised his hand, but the image of him throwing himself in front of her to block the whip flashed in his mind, and he couldn't bring himself to do it, lowering his hand in frustration.
"Jumping, let's stop arguing. I feel like this Mountain Deity definitely has some scheme and might use us for something, so we need to save ourselves and escape."
"Escape?"
Little Fish covered Jumping's mouth in the darkness. "Keep it down, don't let it hear us!"
After a while, Little Fish didn't hear any movement from Jumping. In the darkness, their faces were inches apart, and sparks seemed to fly between their gazes.
"Smack!" A slap landed on Little Fish's face as Jumping shouted, "Anfei Fish, you lecherous fish, go die!"
Little Fish was momentarily stunned by the slap. The soft thing he was holding instinctively tightened in his grip. Confused, he squeezed it a bit; the fullness and softness sent an electric jolt straight to his heart. His mind twisted through a maze before he finally realized what he was holding onto!
So that slap didn't make him feel defeated at all; instead, he felt like he should retaliate with punches and kicks.
Because Little Fish provocatively said, "Jumping, right now I can't quite grasp it with one hand."
"An! Fei! Fish!" Jumping transformed into a fire-breathing tyrannosaurus, unleashing a flurry of punches and kicks at Little Fish like a storm.
A glimmer of light floated over. As the light approached, a creature with a human body and a bird's head appeared before them. "What are you two making noise about? It's so annoying! If you keep it up, I'll chop you into pieces for dumplings."
"Dumplings? Monster, do you know how to cut fatty meat? Dumplings are best made with pork belly, cut into fine pieces and sprinkled with some green onions for flavor."
"Get lost, Piggy Jump! Are you still thinking about cutting meat for it?" Little Fish had nowhere else to grab and ended up clutching Jumping's fluffy rabbit.
"An! Fei! Yu!"
The monster almost killed them; they had never seen someone so cheerful while facing death, not even afraid of him. This was not scientific!
Just a moment ago, they had been arguing incessantly, but now they exchanged a tacit glance. Jumping lunged forward and tightly wrapped the monster's neck with a deer sinew belt, while Little Fish covered its beak with his long robe. The Birdman initially struggled but soon weakly kicked his legs and collapsed to the ground.
Little Fish and Jumping gasped heavily, collapsing beside the monster. After a while, they exchanged smiles and high-fived each other!
Of course, they had been fighting together since childhood; they had great synergy when it came to beating people! No, beating monsters!
"Check if it has any keys on it."
"Jumping, do you think this monster's prison requires a physical door to trap us?"
"Spit it out quickly; I hate when you play mysterious."
Alright, alright. A Violent Woman like her would never say with an enchanting smile, "Young Master An, you know so much; I admire you so much. Why don't you tell me more?"
Little Fish said, "The book I read mentioned that the entrance to a monster's lair is usually a barrier that only they can open."
"That's nonsense! So we can't escape after all?"
"No, we can take it with us."
"Take it with us? You want to roast this bird monster?"
Little Fish rolled his eyes. If only Jumping's intelligence were proportional to the rabbit on his chest! Of course, he didn't dare to say that out loud. He patiently explained, "If it can come in, it can naturally go out. We can use it as a key to unlock the barrier."
Jumping was somewhat uncertain: "Is it going to work?"
"Do you have a better idea? Let's give it a try!"
Little Fish They were struggling to save themselves, while Ming Wang and Xuan Xuan, the beautiful lady, had also arrived at the foot of Peacock Mountain.
Along the way, Softy moved spectacularly, sometimes swaying her hips and twisting her waist, and at other times reverting to her usual walking style. Occasionally, she stumbled as if two people were tugging at her body. Fortunately, those carrying the palanquin were merely spirits; otherwise, it would have been a sight to behold.
The night was deepening, and the wind howled through the treetops like a raging beast. Kong Xuan looked out from the palanquin, furrowing his brow.
They were passing through a depression at the foot of the mountain, which seemed to be an extremely dark and ominous place.
He drew out the Peacock Feather and closed his eyes in silence.
Suddenly, points of faint blue phosphorescence appeared in the pitch-black night, growing more numerous and denser.
Softy grabbed Yuan Maiden by the neck: "What tricks are you playing?"
The Yuan Maiden seemed very frightened. She trembled and said, "No, I don't know. I don't know."
The phosphorescence drew closer; it turned out to be large blue butterflies. Their wings sparkled, scattering shimmering silver powder, looking beautiful but emitting a foul stench.
"It's over; the king has released the Azure Bone Moth. We're doomed."
The Yuan Maiden was even more terrified. Softy felt her soul struggling within her body as if trying to escape. Softy held her tightly: "You can't escape; use your magic to help Divine Lady fend off the enemies."
Kong Xuan chuckled lightly from within the palanquin: "Lang Ye, this little wife is quite clever at critical moments; well done. Here I come." A red shadow burst forth from the palanquin, igniting a flame amidst the heavy blue shadows, golden light cascading like a thousand threads as large Blue Bone Moths fell dead to the ground. Instantly, the nauseating stench in the air diminished significantly.
Suddenly, the wreckage on the ground ignited with a ghostly blue flame, and then the dead Blue Bone Moths transformed into several that lazily flew up from the ground.
The Yuan Maiden exclaimed, "They can't be completely killed. The more you kill, the faster they reproduce. If bitten by a Blue Bone Moth, it will lay eggs inside your body, which will then burst out from within."
Softy felt goosebumps rise at her words, watching as the Blue Bone Moth that Female Intestine had struck down split into three.
"Divine Lady, what should we do?"
Kong Xuan looked at the increasing number of moths with cold eyes. As a Demon God, he was not afraid of these creatures, but he couldn't break free from their encirclement. This was...
Not good, he had fallen for it!
As Kong Xuan struggled to escape, Tang Zisu was also freed from Dreamflower's effects. She climbed off the bed, momentarily dazed, and ran barefoot to the dressing table. Sure enough, her red wedding dress was gone.
"Kong Xuan! Kong Xuan! You bastard!" Tang Zisu grabbed a wooden comb and threw it at the bronze mirror.
Tang Zisu was also someone with a temper; she paced around the room for a couple of circles before plopping down on the bed. "It would be best if we just went our separate ways. I'm packing my things to return to our stable and prosperous Great Celestial Empire dedicated to building a harmonious society and spiritual civilization. I must take the best things with me."
Without hesitation, Tang Zisu reached for a sheet from the wardrobe and piled her clothes on top. Halfway through, she sat down again. How could she go back? In a couple's quarrel, there’s usually a family to return to; she only had a Buddhist hall. Damn it! What kind of woman runs back home during an argument? She had to drag him back and make him kneel on a washboard!
Tang Zisu took her bow and arrows and took a deep breath before opening the door and stepping into the dark night that seemed filled with ghostly shadows. She stumbled over something soft on the ground, nearly jumping in fright. Upon closer inspection, she said, "Zhang Ermao? No wait, are you Zhang Ermao or a ghost?"
Zhang Ermao appeared quite weak, grunting without knowing what to say. Tang Zisu said, "Alright, if you're Zhang Ermao, hurry home and don’t run around at night anymore."
A shadow stood at the doorway and chuckled as he saw Tang Zisu. "I was wondering how to pick up my Wife; I didn't expect my Wife to come out herself. Truly connected in spirit."
Tang Zisu felt her palms sweat in fear. The person hidden in the darkness was indistinct in appearance but emanated an overwhelming aura of malevolence. Having seen many things in life, she steeled her courage and shouted, "Which mental hospital did you escape from? I advise you to take your medication if you're sick; be careful about claiming someone as your wife or you might end up without anything below!"
"Not going down? Wife—truly fierce, no wonder Kong Xuan, that Old Demon, would risk his life for you. I find you quite charming; now come back to my cave and marry me!"
"Get lost, who do you think you are, daring to compare yourself to him?"
"Of course not, I'm much smarter than he is. By now, he’s probably buried under my Azure Bone Moth's siege." The figure flashed and appeared in front of Tang Zisu. With a flick of his sleeve, a strange scent wafted into her nostrils, and Tang Zisu didn't even have time to see his face clearly.
He hoisted Tang Zisu onto his shoulder, his black robe and hair blending seamlessly with the night.
Jumping and Little Fish successfully opened the barrier. Holding a lantern, they cautiously made their way through the dark cave. Little Fish's wound continued to bleed, dripping along the way and attracting snakes, insects, and mice that swarmed around him. Exhausted, he stumbled and fell to the ground.
"Useless," Jumping cursed, then squatted down. "Get on."
"Huh?" Little Fish looked confused.
"Hurry up, I’ll carry you."
"Jumping, it’s not right for you to carry me."
"Stop whining; if you don’t want us both to die, get on." Jumping urged impatiently.
Little Fish climbed onto Jumping's back, wrapping his arms around her neck. Jumping carried him swiftly, moving as one with another person in the darkness—one holding the lantern while the other walked. Perhaps they could walk this life together like this.
The cave was long; they were exhausted and sweating profusely. The path felt short; there was no time to sort out their chaotic thoughts. As they exited the cave, the night wind hit them hard. Though it was bone-chillingly cold, it felt like a rebirth; freedom was indeed more important than anything else.
"Jumping, we can't let our guard down yet; we need to hurry down the mountain."
"Yeah. When Mr. Dongfang returns, I must learn his sword flight technique."
Little Fish felt unhappy as soon as he heard the name Dongfang: “Jumping, you should spend less time with Dongfang Muze in the future.”
“Why? Are you jealous because he is more capable than you?”
“Why would I be jealous of him? Jumping, he is too scheming; he is not a simple person.”
“Of course, if he were simple, could he handle monsters? Little Fish, you are narrow-minded.”
Little Fish was exhausted and in pain; he had no strength to argue with Jumping and could only sigh softly, “I wonder how Divine Lady and the others are doing?”
At that moment, Kong Xuan was engaged in a fierce battle with Azure Bone Moth. The more anxious he became, the more chaotic his moves were. However, the number of Azure Bone Moths kept increasing, and no matter how many he killed, there seemed to be no end.
Softy faced several dangers, but fortunately, Yuan Maiden was skilled enough to prevent the monster moth from laying eggs in her body. Watching Softy dodge awkwardly, Kong Xuan asked, “Softy, can you hold on?”
The response came from Yuan Maiden: “You better think of a way; I don’t want to be buried with you guys. I still want to be a long-term wife to my Tan Lang.”
“Shut up! That person could never like you; you should give up.” Hearing Yuan Maiden mention Lang Ye, Softy felt annoyed.
“How do you know? Could it be that he likes you?”
“You’re talking nonsense; we have nothing between us.”
Yuan Maiden giggled, causing half of Softy's body to tremble. At that moment, one side of Softy's face was furious while the other side smiled brightly, creating a truly bizarre and terrifying sight.
Kong Xuan waved his hand and struck down several Blue Bone Moths, sternly saying, “What are you still chattering about at a time like this? Be quiet!”
The number of Azure Bone Butterflies continued to increase, obscuring even the shadows of trees and the sky. The Azure Bone Butterflies flapped their wings, densely surrounding people, eager to lay their offspring inside them.
Softy stumbled and fell forward, Yuan Maiden shouted angrily, "You useless little girl, this body is truly worthless; I've gotten you killed."
"It's your own fault for being useless, don't blame me," Softy retorted as they began to argue.
An Azure Bone Moth seized the opportunity and landed on her arm, its long sharp beak piercing through her clothing. A sharp pain shot through her arm, and Yuan Maiden screamed, reaching out to grab it, but another one ensnared her hand. Softy yelled, "Get it off!"
"I can't get it off! Let me go; I don't want to die with you!"
With two loud thuds, a spear pierced the body of the Blue Bone Moth, impaling it like a candied hawthorn.
"Tan Lang, I knew you couldn't bear to part with me."
"Lang Ye, why did it take you so long to arrive?"
The high and low voices mixed together, leaving Lang Ye completely unaware of the situation; his crybaby had split apart in an instant!
Along with Lang Ye came a man and a woman. The woman had purple eyes and pointed ears, with nine fluffy tails fluttering behind her; the man had yellow eyes and silver hair, a broad-shouldered and muscular build adorned with three symmetrical red demonic patterns on his face. They were none other than Nine-Tailed Fox Meixiang and Tiger King Breaks the Army.
With a swing of his Void Slash, Tiger King created countless blade shadows, causing the Blue Bone Moth to fall in droves. Mei Xiao cried out, "You all step back!" She opened her Cosmic Bag, and in an instant, sand and stones flew as the moths were sucked into the bag.
Kong Xuan was already drenched in sweat; he gripped Tiger King's arm and leaned forward, his head hitting heavily against him. "Have you been to the Shrine?"
"No," Tiger King replied curtly, revealing his old temper.
"You reckless fool wandering around! I searched all over Peacock Mountain just to find you; I followed your scent straight here. You didn't return to the Shrine, so tell me what happened! Why has Softy turned into this strange state?"
"Back to the Shrine," Kong Xuan said without elaborating further as he took off towards the return path. Mei Xiao and Tiger King followed closely behind. Lang Ye turned to Softy, asking, "How are you going to get back?"
"Of course, you should carry me back," Yuan Maiden answered first.
"Lang Ye, what kind of friends do you have? They look so strange; are they all monsters?"
Lang Ye squinted and quietly observed Softy, making Yuan Maiden feel weak in the knees and Softy shiver with fear. "Hmm, does Tan Lang think I'm beautiful? What are you looking at?" The two voices tangled together as they spoke.
"You look like a monster right now!" As soon as Lang Ye finished speaking, he suddenly stepped forward and picked up Softy by the waist, slapping her on her squirming backside. "Behave yourself; we'll deal with you later, Vengeful Spirit."
Kong Xuan saw the door to the Shrine wide open and felt a chill run down his spine.
He forced himself to stand still, reassuring himself that perhaps he had rushed out without closing the door properly.
Inside the house, it was eerily quiet. The branches had stopped swaying, patiently waiting for a ray of light from the east.
Kong Xuan's legs felt as heavy as lead, each step becoming increasingly difficult. He had never experienced such a feeling of human emotion—fear of loss—like he did now.
He could bring himself down; that feeling was truly terrifying!
With a creak, he pushed open the intricately carved wooden door. The room was in disarray, clothes strewn all over the floor, but Tang Zisu was nowhere to be found.
A chill rose from his feet, and the sweat on his body turned cold. Peacock King clenched his fists tightly and struck the wall hard.
Dust fell from the white plaster as Mei Xiao stuck out her tongue. "Fortunately, this wall is sturdy."
Breaking Army shot her a cold glance, causing Mei Xiao to quickly fall silent.
Kong Xuan sat down on a chair, steadied himself, and said, "Breaking Army Mei Xiao, congratulations to both of you."
Pojun pointed to the courtyard, indicating for Mei Xiao to go outside. She pouted and reluctantly walked out.
Pojun sat across from Kong Xuan and said, "It's Celestial Maiden Rika. She came looking for you, Ming Wang. I shouldn't say this, but don't let her down again."
"Her? So your transformation was also because of her? You received her favor and now speak well of her?"
"Think what you want. Anyway, you were the one who wronged her first. This time, she completely disregards past grievances and said you can find her if you need anything."
"What does it mean to find her if I need something? Is she just waiting with her legs open for customers?" Lang Ye's tone carried a hint of bitterness.
"Lang Ye, she hasn't offended you, so don't disrespect her." Pojun was like a pile of dry wood, while Lang Ye was the raging fire; together they ignited a blazing fire.
Kong Xuan rested his head on his hand, feeling powerless against the escalating tension: "Stop arguing. Pojun, your debt to her has nothing to do with me. I won't seek her out, and I'm curious about where she gets such power. The situation here is becoming increasingly complicated, and everything stems from me. You need to understand the gravity of things. I’m going to Mountain God Temple; that traitor has taken my people, and a fierce battle is inevitable. I won't even leave Tiger King to eat or drink."
"Ming Wang...?" Pojun scoffed. "I have never regretted what happened back then. If I had the chance to do it all over again, I would still kill that woman. Unless Ming Wang holds a grudge and no longer considers Pojun a brother, regardless of what happens to Pojun, life or death, you are still his person. And since it involves that traitor, I must go. It was my carelessness back then that allowed him to take advantage."
Lang Ye patted Pojun's shoulder: "Little kitty, I like what you're saying; how can we brothers not be involved in battle!"
"Get your wolf paw off me."
"Little kitty is angry! Tell me how that Siren tasted; did your spiky friend enjoy himself?"
Pojun's expression turned cold as he grabbed Lang Ye's shoulder with enough force to hear the cracking of bones: "Black dog, you're asking for it."
Kong Xuan crushed the teacup on the table: "Do you both need to leave for a while before setting off?"
"Let's go, right away." The two answered in unison.
The sunlight pierced through the thick clouds on the horizon, gradually welcoming dawn.
Kong Xuan gazed at the undulating distant mountains and silently said, "Tang Zisu, don't be afraid, wait for me, I will take you home!"
