Liu Yang was truly worried about this troublesome brother and sister-in-law.
After explaining to Gu Bei, Liu Yang looked up at him, hoping he would understand and not misunderstand, which could lead to unnecessary emotional harm between Gu Bei and Ye Xiaohan.
Gu Bei patted Liu Yang's head and smiled, "Sorry to worry you. It's just that I was too impulsive. You don't need to worry; I didn't misunderstand."
Oh? No misunderstanding?
Liu Yang was a bit surprised. If there was no misunderstanding, then why had Gu Bei's behavior been so unusual today?
"Brother, why were you suddenly unhappy just now? You left Sister-in-law and the Third Prince without a word."
That was not at all like Gu Bei's usual style; he typically maintained proper etiquette.
Moreover, Liu Yang had never seen Gu Bei leave Ye Xiaohan like that before!
"Well," Gu Bei hesitated for a rare moment, pausing awkwardly before saying, "I know the Third Prince's identity is significant, and Xiao Han couldn't possibly turn him away. But I can also see that there isn't anything special between them."
He seemed to struggle to express himself: "It's just that even though I understand it in my mind, when I see them chatting happily together, it makes me feel uncomfortable."
Liu Yang secretly laughed in his heart; he really hadn't expected his older brother to be so sensitive about feelings. Just seeing his sister-in-law interacting normally with another man made him uncontrollably jealous.
"Ahem, ahem!" Liu Yang coughed a couple of times to ease Gu Bei's embarrassment. But it seemed to have no effect; Gu Bei looked even more uncomfortable.
Gu Bei sighed helplessly, "I didn't want to lose my composure in front of others. At that moment, I acted on impulse and didn't even know what I was thinking when I walked away."
Once outside, the noise of the crowd helped him calm down.
As he walked away, it not only created an awkward atmosphere but also served no other purpose. He wondered if Ye Xiaohan was angry because of this.
Based on the information Gu Bei had previously gathered about Murong Jing, it was unlikely that such matters would trouble her.
Regardless, this incident was indeed his fault.
Gu Bei had not walked far when he began to reflect on himself.
Li Yang suppressed a laugh; he couldn't stab his brother in the back at a time like this. As a good younger brother, he should quickly think of a way to help his brother regain his spirits.
"Brother, what you said won't reach my sister-in-law. You should talk to her directly. You two are already married; there's nothing that can't be discussed face to face."
Gu Bei thought for a moment and nodded in agreement. "You're right. I think I should talk to Xiao Han in person. I'll go find her today. You should head back; she can't manage everything by herself."
Was he worried she couldn't handle it alone, or was he afraid she'd be with other men? Li Yang chuckled inwardly as he bid farewell to Gu Bei and returned.
"You're back! Did you catch up with Gu Bei?"
The restaurant was empty; the Third Prince and his entourage had already left. Only Ye Xiaohan remained, tidying up the dishes on the table.
Li Yang hurried over to help while answering her question.
"I caught up with him. Brother suddenly remembered something urgent and needed to head back for a bit, but he'll come find you tonight." Li Yang provided Gu Bei with a suitable excuse to prevent him from being mocked.
Then he asked, "Did the Third Prince leave?"
"Yeah," Ye Xiaohan said wearily, "he finished that pot of soup and kept burping, so he couldn't eat anything else and just went back."
Li Yang silently wiped a drop of sweat from his brow. "The Third Prince is really something special."
So special that they didn't even know how to describe him appropriately anymore.
Ye Xiaohan rolled her eyes in agreement.
The two quickly tidied up, restoring everything to its original state. Then they made another trip to the carpenter's shop to retrieve the table they had previously ordered, as Ming still needed to open for business.
"Alright, let's leave the things here. We'll all tidy up together before Ming opens," Ye Xiaohan said, clapping her hands and addressing Li Yang.
"Got it." Li Yang turned to grab the lock. After Ye Xiaohan stepped outside, he locked the door, and the two headed home.
Once at home, Ye Xiaohan went to check on Bai Rong'er as usual.
Recently, Bai Rong'er had stabilized a lot; she was more alert than before. She wasn't as fearful of people and occasionally accepted snacks from Li Qi.
Although they hadn't seen her actually eat anything, her willingness to interact with the outside world was a significant improvement.
Li Yang held Li Qi's hand and followed Ye Xiaohan, stopping at a distance from Bai Rong'er's door without entering.
Bai Rong'er still had a considerable fear of adults; aside from Ye Xiaohan, even Aunt Zhang, whom they had hired to help, was not allowed near her.
To avoid triggering Bai Rong'er, Li Yang always made a conscious effort to keep his distance from her.
After playing for a while with Liu Qi, she seemed to be happy no matter what they did, even when Liu Yang teased her. This made Liu Yang particularly enjoy teasing her.
Before long, Ye Xiaohan came out. Her expression was relaxed, indicating that things were likely going well.
"Sister-in-law, is White Maiden feeling any better?" Liu Yang stood up to ask when he saw Ye Xiaohan.
As soon as Liu Qi spotted Ye Xiaohan, she ignored Liu Yang and rushed over to nuzzle against her, making her head all fluffy.
Ye Xiaohan reached out to tidy Liu Qi's hair, but instead of getting it in order, it became even messier, causing the braids to fall apart. She had no choice but to stop.
"The situation is not bad today. If it continues like this, she should recover to about seventy or eighty percent," Ye Xiaohan said. At least she would be able to interact normally with others and live her life.
Liu Yang felt a bit regretful. "Only seventy or eighty percent? Sister-in-law, you're so amazing; you can't cure White Maiden completely?"
"I'm a doctor, not a miracle worker!" Ye Xiaohan replied while trying to re-braid Liu Qi's hair after undoing it. "This is a psychological trauma. No doctor can guarantee a full recovery."
"I'm not doubting your medical skills," Liu Yang said. "I just think it's a pity. White Maiden is such a beautiful person; it would be too sad if she couldn't speak again in the future."
Ye Xiaohan clumsily made a mess of Liu Qi's hair, with the braids sticking out awkwardly. She conceded defeat; it would have to stay like this.
Anyway, Liu Qi didn't seem to mind at all. She curiously shook her braids and played happily.
"Let's go. Her recovery will take time; we can't rush it," Ye Xiaohan said, taking Liu Qi's hand and leading her to eat. "How about I make your favorite salt and pepper shrimp for dinner?"
Upon hearing about her favorite dish, Liu Qi's eyes sparkled as she looked up and exclaimed, "Yes! Seven loves shrimp the most!"
Since Ye Xiaohan learned to cook, she has been showing off her skills at home. At first, her dishes were quite experimental, but now she has gained the approval of everyone.
“Second Brother, hurry up, the shrimp is ready!” Liu Qi took a few steps and noticed Liu Yang hadn’t followed. She turned back and called out to him.
“Oh, oh, I’m coming.” Liu Yang heard her call and glanced at Bai Rong'er’s closed door before quickly catching up.
That evening, knowing that Gu Bei would be coming over, Liu Yang took Liu Qi aside with a reason to leave, so as not to disturb their little world.
Ye Xiaohan was well aware of Liu Yang's feelings. However, if she were to deliberately refute or explain that there was nothing between her and Gu Bei, it would only draw more attention and make things worse.
In her heart, she scolded Liu Yang and pushed open the window, letting the moonlight pour in.
Gu Bei arrived right on time; Ye Xiaohan didn’t have to wait long before he climbed in through the window.
“Have you gotten addicted to climbing through windows? Why don’t you just come in through the door?” It wasn’t like before when they had to be so cautious; there was no need for that now.
No, Ye Xiaohan looked at the low window; it was hardly different from entering through the door. Could it be that Gu Bei had developed a habit of climbing in through windows?
Gu Bei turned around to close the window but then remembered it had been open all along. After hesitating for a moment, he opened it again.
“Pfft.” Ye Xiaohan couldn’t help but laugh out loud and quickly averted her gaze to avoid embarrassing him.
But really, this was too funny!
