Liu Susu felt an unbearable pain on her face, accompanied by intense agony and a strong burning sensation. However, at the end of the pain, there was an itching that penetrated to the bone, making her want to scratch off a layer of skin.
The imperial physician arrived quickly, and upon seeing the situation, his expression turned grim.
"Quick, stop her! Don't let her scratch her face!"
But it was too late. By the time the guards managed to hold Liu Susu down and pry her hands away, the onlookers gasped in horror.

Liu Chancellor anxiously said, "Physician, please take a look! What on earth is happening?"
Just moments ago, everything had been fine; how could such a thing suddenly occur?
After carefully diagnosing her condition, the physician applied an ointment to Liu Susu's wounds. Gradually, she calmed down and collapsed weakly onto the ground.
"Your Majesty, Liu Chancellor," the physician reported tremulously, "this is poisoning!" As an imperial physician, he knew his life was always at stake; if something happened to a noble, he could very well be buried alongside them.
Emperor Imperial Countenance was furious: "On the birthday of the Empress Dowager, how dare such a reckless person act! Bring forth people to thoroughly search and capture this poisoner!"
Imperial Countenance's rage led to immediate orders for a large-scale investigation.
"Amitabha!" The Empress Dowager muttered a Buddhist chant nearby, clearly displeased with what was unfolding before her.
Compared to capturing the culprit, Liu Chancellor was more concerned about Liu Susu's injuries: "Physician, can my daughter's face be healed?"
The physician timidly glanced at Liu Chancellor and replied, "I am incompetent; I cannot even determine what poison Madam Gu has been afflicted with. I can only identify a few components but fear I am powerless for now."
"Then what about after this?" Liu Chancellor asked anxiously. "Will it be possible to cure her slowly?"
The imperial physician hesitated and replied, "My lord, this poison is extremely dangerous. Just from what I can discern, the Devouring Ghost Grass is a rare and lethal toxin. Once poisoned, the effects spread immediately, leaving no time to concoct an antidote."
To save his own life, the physician quickly added, "The only consolation is that this poison seems to harm only human skin and does not cause significant damage to internal organs."
This statement offered no comfort to Liu Family's father and daughter.
When Liu Susu heard about the Devouring Ghost Grass, she trembled in disbelief and looked ahead. The skin on her forehead was torn, and blood mixed with pus smeared her face, sticking to her eyelids and making it difficult for her to see.
Ye Xiaohan subtly shifted her body half a step into the available space to make it easier for Liu Susu to see her.
Sure enough, with Ye Xiaohan's 'help,' Liu Susu quickly spotted where Ye Xiaohan was.
As her gaze fell upon Ye Xiaohan's still smooth face, Liu Susu screamed again, struggling to crawl towards Ye Xiaohan but was firmly held back by someone.
"Why? Why me?" Liu Susu was engulfed in extreme confusion. "No! It shouldn't be me! It shouldn't be mine!"
Her words were interpreted by those around as the ramblings of someone unable to handle the shock; no one guessed the truth behind her self-inflicted plight.
Meanwhile, the two who knew the truth looked on in shock and pity at Liu Susu, who lay helpless on the ground, just like everyone else around them.
With the poisoning incident occurring, the banquet could no longer continue.
Liu Susu was sent back to Liu Manor. To show his regard for the Liu Family, the emperor even sent two imperial physicians to provide treatment for Liu Susu.
Meanwhile, within the Palace of the Empress Dowager, an unprecedented thorough search was underway.
After returning home, Liu Susu felt so weak that she couldn't even muster the strength to smash a mirror. She could only lie half-conscious on her bed. The poison was insidious and severe; while it wouldn't take her life, it would inflict tremendous harm on her body in a short time.

"What?" Lady Liu was taken aback. She never expected Liu Susu would actually name a suspect. "Daughter, how do you know? Could it be a mistake? Ye Xiaohan is just a commoner; how could she have the audacity to harm the daughter of the Minister's Residence?"
If Ye Xiaohan truly had such capabilities, why hadn't she fought back during the several times when her own daughter had nearly caused her death? Instead, she had chosen to endure in silence.
Liu Susu's voice dripped with resentment. "I am not mistaken! It was that bitch! She must still be harboring grudges from before and has been looking for an opportunity to take revenge on me! This time, she finally found her chance and poisoned me!"
She would never let this bitch go! Absolutely not! The intense pain and burning sensation on her face continued to flare up, and Liu Susu dared not look in the mirror.
She knew better than anyone how potent this poison was. She was determined that Ye Xiaohan would be left disfigured and too ashamed to show herself in public, showing no mercy in her attack.

Indeed, it was only Ye Xiaohan. As for the others, they were either not as capable as Liu Susu or simply had to endure. The rest were people Liu Susu could not afford to offend, and they looked down on her too much to take action.
Seeing Lady Liu wavering a bit, Liu Susu put on an even more pitiful expression. "Mother, you didn’t see it earlier! That Bitch, after her scheme succeeded, was grinning at me with such delight! She was just waiting for this moment! You have to stand up for me!"
Lady Liu felt a surge of anger. Just thinking about her poor daughter lying helplessly on the ground while Ye Xiaohan, that Bitch, looked down on her with mockery made her wish she could skin Ye Xiaohan alive!
"Don't worry, my daughter. I will never let anyone bully you!" Lady Liu stood up, summoned her attendants, and headed straight for the tavern.
Liu Susu glared at the closed door and suddenly began to scream, throwing everything within reach onto the floor.
"Ye Xiaohan, I hate you! This isn't over between us!"
Lady Liu arrived at the entrance of Ye Xiaohan's residence just as Ye Xiaohan and her companions were returning. Gu Bei, as a general, had the responsibility of protecting the royal family’s safety and had been left in the palace to investigate the case; it was Murong Jing who brought them back.
"Thank you, Third Prince. With so many disturbances today, you should head back and rest," Ye Xiaohan said after expressing her gratitude and immediately urged him to leave.
Originally, they planned to return on their own. With Lo Cheng's men sent along, there wouldn’t be any safety issues. However, Murong Jing insisted on coming along, and no one could stop him.
Murong Jing smiled and said, "Is Boss Ye concerned about me? I'm truly touched."
"You... just go already," Ye Xiaohan found herself at a loss with this persistent Third Prince. He always took every opportunity to tease her with light-hearted banter but never crossed any lines that would provoke her into a real fight. It left her feeling frustrated yet unable to express it.
As Murong Jing observed Ye Xiaohan's expression, he found it amusing and planned to tease her a bit more when he suddenly heard the sound of approaching carriages from afar. He instinctively became alert and turned his gaze in that direction.
