The brightly lit Adventurer's Tavern welcomed a Noble Man whose demeanor was strikingly out of place in the lively atmosphere. A sense of urgency hung on his face, and the aloofness of his Beauty added a touch of drama to the scene.
"I leave her to you."
Yan Yan stood up, glancing at the woman slumped over the table, and nodded at the hurried man.
"Sister Bu Yan, thank you."
"Sui Xin, she is my friend."
Her calm tone carried an undercurrent of dissatisfaction. "I hope the East Wind President can take better care of her next time."
"I've been too busy today and didn't pay enough attention to her." His voice was filled with regret, and his eyes reflected deep concern for the intoxicated woman.
Just as he turned to leave, a clear Voice rang in his ear.
"The issue isn't about being busy; it's about what you truly understand."
As her words lingered in the air thick with the scent of alcohol, the man's previously dazed Beauty was instantly replaced by wild joy and disbelief.
"Sui Xin, you care about me, don't you?"
He murmured to himself, unconsciously voicing his thoughts.
The woman slumped over the table stirred slightly.
The man bent down and picked her up, striding out of the tavern.
Xiros Mountain.
A leveling paradise for players from level 15 to 5, and a mining haven, rich in Dark Iron Ore, the main material for crafting Silver Equipment.
Even at night, the desire for wealth drove the mining teams forward. As they passed by, faint lights flickered from several mines at the foot of the mountain, indicating that some studios were busy farming materials.
The base of the mountain was primarily a Refresh Point for Slime Monsters. With a level of 15, Slime Monsters were quite similar to the Quicksand Foxes found in beginner villages; they were weak in attack and had low health. Aside from their speed, they were suitable for players around level 1 to grind experience. Moreover, with good positioning, efficiency was remarkably high. Thus, on their way, they could still see some members of Chuan Chuan Guild just finishing their training.
Her target was a mine halfway up the mountain.
The narrow entrance stood two meters high and one meter wide, barely allowing one person to pass through. Inside, it was no surprise that there would be more Slime Monsters at level 15. The mine was situated at a higher elevation, making it less likely for players to venture far for mining. Consequently, compared to other mines at the foot of the mountain, this area was densely overgrown with vegetation and teeming with monsters, necessitating a clearing of visibility first.
Aggro Powder was scattered around the mine entrance.
“Chirp chirp chirp—”
All the Slime Monsters nearby and those within the mine were drawn out.
Thirty Slime Monsters writhed around the Aggro Powder, emitting their high-pitched cries.
There was no time to waste with them.
“Whoosh—”
The arrow shot into the Monster Horde, and the Slime Monsters immediately erupted into a frenzy of attacks.
Snot and slime!
Dodge—
Avoiding the assault, she turned and ran without hesitation, luring the Monster Horde into a rocky hollow twenty yards away. With a light leap, she flipped and landed on a protruding edge of the hollow. The edge was lined with sharp stone spikes. She shifted her weight and looked down; all the Slime Monsters had entered the hollow.
Surveying her surroundings, she heard no sounds. With a flick of her finger, she pulled out a Fire Thunder from her backpack. A slight smile crept onto her lips as she applied pressure with her fingertip, sending the Fire Thunder plummeting down.
“Boom—”
The explosion of the Fire Thunder instantly illuminated the dark night sky, making the surroundings as bright as day. Even the pulverized stone debris in the hollow was clearly visible. The blinding white light forced Yan Yan to squint slightly, shielding her eyes with her right hand to steady herself as she crouched on the trembling, fractured edge of the hollow.
The angle at which she threw the Fire Thunder was perfect; it landed squarely among the Slime Monsters. The exploded Slime Monsters sent gooey slime scattering everywhere. The sticky sensation and repulsive odor made her frown, even as the rapidly rising Experience Bar couldn’t mask her disgust.
Ignoring the slime that splattered on her, she leaned over to look down. A vast expanse of red damage indicators surrounded a field of ruins left in the wake of the explosion.
A few remaining Snot Beasts with low health writhed amidst a pile of green slime.
Explosive Arrow!
Rapid Fire!
Double Shot!
After taking down the scattered low-health monsters, she moved her body, lightly tapping her feet against the stone wall, gliding down like a large bird landing smoothly. Her shoes touched a large puddle of green slime, and frowning, she reached out to start rummaging through the strange-smelling goo.
Ten minutes later, Deep Down began to doubt whether her luck had truly turned so grim. Thirty Slime Monsters, and not a single piece of Slime Monster skin had dropped?
Just as she was about to give up and lure another wave, a chill ran through her fingertips—she found something!
“Plop—”
The green slime from the Slime Monster skin slid off softly, dripping into the puddle below. In her hand was a thin, crescent-shaped piece of green translucent skin, more akin to a delicate jelly than actual Slime Monster skin. Unlike the disgusting smell of the slime, this jelly-like skin exuded a sweet fragrance. She took out some Firewine from her backpack and quickly rinsed off the slime on it, gently placing it over her face as a mask.
Drawing her bow, she stepped into the deep, narrow mine tunnel, where the Miasma was completely blocked by her mask.
Eagle Eye!
She proceeded cautiously, scanning her surroundings as she walked deeper into the cave.
With Concealment Powder in effect, she encountered no attacks from any lone Black-Skinned Monsters along the way.
As she ventured further in, the number of Black-Skinned Monsters increased.
Holding her breath and pressing against the mine wall, she cautiously made her way out of the Black-Skinned Monster zone. Her gaze swept over the deep pool of water behind them, and she froze.
Suddenly!
The Black-Skinned Monster twitched its nose, its glowing red eyes instantly locking onto the spot where Yan Yan stood.
This is bad—
She immediately held her breath, her fingers gripping the Golden Longbow so tightly that they turned pale.
The Black-Skinned Monster took a step forward.
Her heart tightened.
If that level 18 Black-Skinned Monster touched her, it would be game over.
The explosive power of Fire Thunder was too strong; it was originally meant for leveling up monsters, and feeding it to the Slime Monster would be a waste. Now, using it in the mine would surely cause a collapse.
Time ticked by slowly; what felt like a year passed in just one minute. It wasn't until the Black-Skinned Monster turned back to its original position in confusion that she slowly exhaled the breath she had been holding, a faint flush of color appearing on her Waxy Yellow Pale, Gaunt Face from lack of oxygen.
Not daring to make any sudden movements, she moved inch by inch over a distance of twenty yards, taking nearly twenty minutes to finally escape the Black-Skinned Monster zone.
In an instant, the figure moved swiftly, and at a distance of fifteen yards, the Black-Skinned Monster suddenly revealed the intruder!
“Chirp, chirp, chirp—”
The sharp cries rushed toward the intruder.
“Thud—”
An attack from behind landed right at their feet.
Having already submerged in the water, Yan Yan held onto the Holding Breath Grass and quickly swam downward.
The Black-Skinned Monster at the edge of the pool lost its target, calming down from its frenzy and gradually returning to its original position.
Meanwhile, the person underwater struggled against the buoyancy of the deep water, desperately diving deeper.
The pitch-black bottom of the pool was disorienting; if it weren't for the clear memory of the Coordinates and the map indicating they were getting closer, they would surely have been lost here.
Half an hour later.
Their legs began to weaken, and their hands moved slower as they pushed forward, their complexion growing increasingly pale.
Fortunately—
It's almost here!
Struggling to maintain her fading consciousness, she bit down on her molars, forcing a flicker of determination within her. "Splash—"
The moment the water broke, she spat out the Holding Breath Grass and began gasping for air.
Exhausted, she crawled into the vast cave and collapsed onto the ground, unable to move.
Five minutes later, as the numbness in her limbs began to fade, she pulled out a bottle of Firewine from her backpack and took a large gulp. The fiery alcohol dispelled the chill that had seeped into her bones, warming her insides just a bit.
After eating two buns and seeing her stamina return to normal, she was about to get up when—
"Roar—"
A distant roar from a Rodent made her suddenly spring to her feet, disbelief flooding her alert eyes.
Suppressing the unease in her heart, she applied Concealment Powder on herself. After a brief pause, she took out the only vial of Scorpion Venom she had and smeared it on the Arrow Tip.
Damn it, why would the Rodents go berserk for no reason? Could it be—
No way. She had entered through the secret passage without any signs of other players.
Her eyes narrowed, and a chill spread around her as she activated Eagle Eye, moving cautiously in the direction of the sound.
Luminous Powder marked her path on the ground, and the Golden Longbow in her hand was ready, its Arrow Tip glowing with a bloodthirsty red light. Scorpion Venom was poised to take a life at any moment.
A faint light emerged from twelve yards ahead.
The moment she saw the light, her heart sank; her worst fear had come true—there were players!
She lightened her footsteps, crouching low as she carefully approached the edge of the cave's bend.
The scene inside struck her like a bolt of lightning.
A shadow was pinned beneath the Rodent King, its sharp teeth nearly touching the opponent's forehead.
The beleaguered Rodent King was covered in numerous deep and shallow wounds, blood holes scattered across its body, clearly inflicted by a thief's Bone Extraction Skill.
A level 5 Bone Extraction Skill could not have been learned by any player in the Thieves' Guild unless—
This person, like herself, had obtained a Skill Book or had a very high martial artist certification level that granted them special access. Either way, it spelled disaster for her.
"Damn it!"
With a roar, the figure broke free from the Rodent King's grasp, transforming into a blur as it darted around the cave. The Rodent was already known for its speed, and now with the Rodent King leading it, its speed doubled. The bloodied shadow desperately evaded attack after attack.
As soon as Yan Yan heard the sound, a cold light flashed in his eyes, and the killing intent radiated from him without any concealment.
It was him!
It was actually him!
His tightly clenched hands trembled as he fought to suppress the impulse to shoot the other party dead on the spot, his dark eyes fixed intently on the battle ahead.
The Rodent King launched a surprise attack, causing the opponent to grunt in pain, and the red damage that appeared prompted him to quickly pull out a Health Potion and swallow it.
He spun around and executed a Bone Extraction!
As the Rodent cried out in pain, he followed up with a Chokehold!
After taking two hits, the monster's assault faltered, and he struck with a Stun Baton!
The thirty percent stun effect immediately froze the Rodent King in place.
The shadow took a moment to breathe; fighting monsters above his level, the stun effect from the Stun Baton had dropped directly to thirty percent. His luck today had been terrible—he hadn’t triggered a single stun effect in the previous twenty attempts!
Fortunately, it wasn't too late now; if he had waited any longer, he would have been finished.
Taking advantage of the three seconds of stun, he prepared to make a quick escape.
Suddenly—
A wave of weakness surged through the limbs.
“Whoosh—”
The sound of an arrow slicing through the air echoed in the ears.
Oh no! Someone—
“Puff—”
The arrow pierced the body of the Rodent King, and the Arrow Tip instantly spread Scorpion Venom throughout the bloodstream.
Not even a scream escaped; the monster transformed into white light, turning into Experience, and with a flash, leveled up to 1.
Unfortunately, at this moment, Yan Yan, Heartless, could not feel the joy of leveling up. Just the thought of the person lying on the ground made the area on her back that had been crushed ache faintly—
“Pat pat—”
The approaching footsteps grew louder, deepening the ominous feeling in the heart of the shadow lying on the ground.
