【Party Channel】Qin Huai: Give it to me, Captain.
【Party Channel】Lightly Spoken: Alright.
System: Player Lightly Spoken transfers the captain role to Qin Huai.
System: Does player Lightly Spoken confirm entry into Blood Desolation Cave?
【Party Channel】Lightly Spoken: Wait! Are we not inviting anyone else?
【Party Channel】Qin Huai: No need.
The girl stared at the reply, feeling hesitant. Under the calm gaze of the other, she ultimately agreed to enter the dungeon.
System: Player Qin Huai's party enters Blood Desolation Cave Simple Level.
As soon as they entered the instance, a wave of blood stench hit Yan Yan, causing her to frown. She quickly took out the Mint Herb Pack that Mo Yan had prepared for her and inhaled deeply a few times, dispelling the dizziness caused by the foul smell.
Once she regained her composure, she noticed that the Black-Clad Thief had already moved several dozen yards ahead. She hurriedly ran up, holding another Mint Herb Pack, and said, "Hey, wait! Do you want a Mint Herb Pack?"
"No need," came a low and hoarse voice, tinged with a sense of detachment. The man in black turned to see the girl panting slightly from running and explained, "The mask has a Dispel effect."
"Oh," Yan Yan paused, staring at his face obscured by the Black Veil. She put away the Mint Herb Pack, muttering to herself, "So the thief's mask has that effect too. Next time, I should get Scallion Tofu to get one..."
With perception levels several above that of a regular player, Qin Huai heard every word she mumbled. He glanced down at his own face covered by the mask of Thief God Yasuo, finding it amusing how easily deceived and naive she was. He wondered where someone like her came from... Last time, she had been so clueless, standing right in the middle of the path that he accidentally bumped into her and swiped her Heart Ring. If it weren't for the damn mission requiring both male and female ring holders to complete it together, he would have... And on his way back, he lost a Stand-In Doll. Tsk... He had rushed out too quickly and had too few items on him; that Stand-In Doll was the least valuable.
"Stay close."
With lightning speed, he dispatched a monster that appeared and reminded her that she couldn't afford to die here; their mission wasn't complete yet. He hoped she wasn't just a pretty face without any substance.
After contemplating for a moment, Qin Huai continued to clear out monsters along their path while keeping an eye on the girl following closely behind him.
He had chosen an archer who required long arms, but her reactions were slow, and she hadn’t added any agility to her strength. Her positioning was decent, but she still lacked precision. Without enhancements, her arrows had a short range and flew slowly. Hmm... her skill accuracy was acceptable, but the critical hit rate was too low. She hadn’t embedded enough gems in her equipment, and her enhancement level was too low. Her attack skills were too singular; she lacked comprehension skills and rare skills. Tsk... it seemed her understanding was average. At least she didn’t have those flashy and cumbersome outfits like some pampered cats, which meant she wouldn’t drag him down. At level forty, even if she helped, it wouldn’t be enough. Fortunately, he had brought plenty of potions; soloing should be fine as long as... the girl didn’t act recklessly and could think smartly. The chances of completing the mission were still quite high.
While he continuously assessed Yan Yan, the girl was quietly observing him from deep down.
A level fifty-five thief, fifteen levels higher than her. Soloing the Blood Desolation Cave at level forty was indeed not very difficult... Just like the top player on the leaderboard, Old Steed in the Stable. She quietly flipped through the top ten list; aside from three players with hidden information, she couldn’t find anyone named Qin Huai. Spotting his black-masked face, she thought to herself: it’s rare to encounter a high-level player in the top ten on the leaderboard, yet she couldn’t even take a commemorative photo. How sorrowful...
“Don’t get distracted! Stay close!”
A sharp shout interrupted her scattered thoughts. Immediately after, a tremendous force came from her arm, causing her to stumble forward hurriedly. A cold flash passed before her eyes, and “ugh—” she bumped her nose against a hard chest, feeling a mix of soreness and numbness that instantly brought tears to her eyes.
Covering her nose and rubbing her eyes to wipe away the physiological tears, she turned to see two corpses of Blood Desolation monsters lying on the ground where he had just stood.
“I’m sorry…”
Nono mumbled an apology while the girl hung her head in silence.
The black-clad thief looked at the girl who had suddenly turned sullen. The cold reprimand stuck in his throat as he stared at her for a moment. After hesitating for a long time, he finally said: “Put away your weapon and focus on my movements. Follow me step by step without attracting any monsters.”
“Okay.”
She obediently accepted his request and dared not get distracted again. Yan Yan concentrated fully on his footsteps, cautiously stepping where he had walked as they made their way through the Blood Wasteland Path.
The first BSS room was just ahead.
“When we go in later, you just need to stand at the door and don’t move. If BSS skills come flying at you, whether you bend down or lie down or whatever... just don’t step outside the doorframe or come inside. You’re only level forty; once you enter the room, BSS’s aggro will automatically shift to the lowest-level member of our team. If you don’t want to die, remember: do not move an inch, okay?”
“Mm-hmm, got it,” she replied, blinking those dark apricot eyes of hers while her moist lips pressed together like two closed peach petals—delicate and pink.
He reined in his gaze and turned to engage the monsters. As he glanced back at the girl standing at the door with a warning look, he felt uneasy in his heart. With a slender finger flicking outwards, he tossed over a Stand-In Doll and said: “Whatever you do, don’t die; otherwise, we’ll definitely fail the mission.”
"Captain, I promise not to cause you any trouble. Just focus on pushing Bss!"
Wan raised her delicate white hand and made a victory gesture, her dark, sparkling eyes filled with assurance.
Without hesitating, Qin Huai's fingers danced with Cold Radiance as Combat Intuition activated. With Shadow Step, he moved swiftly, leaving only afterimages and cold light in his wake. Each flash was accompanied by alarming red Damage Values, causing Bss's Health Bar to plummet like a heavy weight.
Yan Yan could only see a ghostly shadow circling the Blood Wasteland Warrior. With each movement, Bss's Health Line dropped by 5%.
A few breaths later, Bss's Health Bar turned red, reaching a dangerous 1%.
Suddenly, a monster respawned behind the Black-Clad Thief!
"..." Heart!
Before she could even shout the word, Bss reacted to the noise and unleashed a powerful attack. Remembering his warning, Yan Yan instinctively crouched down. The skill flew past her back, and she was hit by its residual force, leaving her with only a sliver of health!
Just as she popped a healing item, the Blood Wasteland Warrior launched another devastating attack aimed directly at her!
The sweeping skill was about to reach the girl with barely any health left. "Ah—" The scream was still on her lips when Yan Yan's body was lifted and thrown like a chick in mid-air. She caught a glimpse of the Black-Clad Thief as he turned around and executed a final blow that drained Bss's last bit of health. Then he dashed forward, skidding to a stop and extending his arms to catch her safely as she fell.
The movements were fluid and seamless.
