"Don't you understand yet?" Qing Luan scoffed. "Linglong Sister doesn't want you to suffer, can't you see that?"
"Shut up!" Wei Scholar snapped, his anger boiling over. "Linglong, I am your husband. Wherever you are, I will be there too. We are a family, and we have a son! That is our child!" Panic gripped him as he realized that if they had a son, the Hu Family would belong to him. But now, unexpected complications arose, and he feared he might be thrown out.
"A son?" Linglong murmured in a daze, then lifted her head and asked blankly, "Have you ever seen our son? You shameless scoundrel stood by while the Nursemaid abused him, not saying a word. Did you ever treat him like a son? He was born nearly a month ago—did you even glance at him? Hmph, and now you remember he's your son?"
At that moment, the dream truly shattered.
"I am a Scholar; you can't just kick me out," Wei Scholar said urgently, resorting to threats. "If you disrespect me, I will report you to the authorities."
"Hmph, after all we've been through as a couple, you're really something," Linglong replied with nothing but disdain in her eyes, devoid of any hatred. "You look down on me and the Hu Family so much. I was kind enough to let you go; isn't that good enough?"
"I... I want our son," Wei Scholar insisted, recalling that their child was the only hope for the Hu Family. If he took the boy away, then Hu Linglong would be under his control—she would have to listen to him.
"You really are shameless," Qing Luan exploded in anger, launching into a tirade. "Scholar? What’s so great about being a Scholar? The Hu Family is in business; we are merchants. But who do you think pays for your food, clothing, and your escapades outside? Without the Hu Family, you're nothing! I refuse to believe that just because you have the title of Scholar, people will treat you like royalty and let you live in luxury without knowing the hardships of life."
"You... you insult my dignity," Wei Scholar stammered, his face flushed from embarrassment as he tried to retort. But his tone was weak and fearful, lacking the arrogance he had shown earlier.
"Dignity? Do you even have any dignity? All I see is lewdness and filth—you're despicable and shameless," Qing Luan continued her verbal assault with ease, her expression rich with contempt. "People pay for your upkeep and yet you claim to be wronged. I've seen shamelessness before, but I've never seen anyone as shameless as you. Just looking at you makes me feel sick!"
"Hmph, Qing Luan, you're doing an excellent job of cursing," Linglong said with a desire to applaud; however, she held back knowing it would only humiliate Wei Scholar further.
Seeing her about to clap made Wei Scholar panic momentarily before he regained his composure. Narrowing his eyes with a cold smirk, he said, "Hu Linglong, don't push your luck. Let me tell you—Chen Gongzi is my close friend; he's the Prefect's son. If he finds out how you're treating me, the Hu Family will be in serious trouble."
He truly was relentless!
Qing Luan really wanted to pry open his head and see if he had become foolish from studying too much, completely oblivious to the ways of the world.
"Hmph, down on your luck?" Hu Linglong was genuinely angry, her eyes wide open as she stared at him with disdain and mocked, "You really are too full of yourself. Do you think everyone outside respects you, flatters you, and praises you because of your title as Scholar? Without the Hu Family's wealth, they wouldn't even spare you a glance if you died on the street—want to test that?"
Qing Luan felt like applauding Hu Linglong. This woman had transformed from death to life, like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, showcasing vibrant beauty that must have come from enduring immense pain to become the stunning figure she was now.
"Linglong, my lady, it's all her fault! Those dirty deeds were all done by her; I had nothing to do with it! I was just bewitched and confused. Please forgive me this once; I promise I won't do it again!" Wei Scholar thought about the days after leaving the Hu Family and felt a chill run down his spine. He immediately begged for mercy, hoping to escape disaster.
