"I'll pay one more coin than usual," Qing Luan said calmly to the fishermen without arguing.
"I'll pay two more coins," Zheng Xinran shouted immediately, not waiting for them to respond.
"My lord," a middle-aged man who looked like a steward nervously tried to intervene upon hearing his words, but was pushed aside by Zheng Xinran.
"This is my business; I don't need a servant like you to speak on my behalf," he scoffed.
"Young Master Zheng is quite generous," Qing Luan said, suppressing the amusement in her eyes. She sighed and feigned reluctance as she looked at the fishermen surrounding her. "Young Master Zheng's offer is higher than that of Hu Family Tavern. You should sell to him!"
"Haha... trying to compete with me? You'll be crying soon!" Zheng Xinran laughed triumphantly, pleased with his victory.
"Heh..." Qing Luan didn't say anything further. She stepped back from the crowd and gestured for them to surround Zheng Xinran, letting him have his way—fool, unaware of who would be crying in the end.
In the sweltering heat, buying several hundred pounds of fish at a price two coins higher than usual... she really wanted to know what the outcome would be. Qing Luan thought about it and felt a bit devious; she had already caused someone trouble and still wanted to add fuel to the fire.
Smirking lightly, she strolled home, completely unconcerned about how she would handle the fish she promised Hu Lingyun.
"Sister," Zhao Yun rushed over as soon as he saw her, smiling. "Uncle Ma has already delivered the fish." While his sister was busy arguing with others, he had secretly brought back their family's fish with Uncle Ma. So the fish they bought were not what they actually needed and were much more expensive than usual; just thinking about it made him laugh.
"Yes, I know!" She had seen it all along, which was why she played a trick on Zheng Xinran without revealing her intentions. She wondered when that fool would realize he had been duped.
The fishermen worked hard and struggled to sell their catch. Today, with Zheng Xinran being so generous, they should be pleased.
"Plain Grandmother," Qing Luan said as she let Zhao Yun take Tide out to play. She then walked into the yard and looked at the busy Plain Grandmother, asking, "Do you know about Xinglong Restaurant?"
"Of course I do," Plain Grandmother replied cheerfully, her bright personality shining through. "It's owned by the Zheng Family. Their business used to be bigger than the Hu Family's, but unfortunately, they have a useless heir. Now that we have the young lady's menu, the Hu Family's business will surely surpass theirs one day."
"Hehe," Qing Luan chuckled upon realizing that Plain Grandmother was completely unaware of what had just happened. She recounted the earlier events with a playful tilt of her head, feigning innocence. "Plain Grandmother, what do you think will happen to Young Master Zheng when he goes back?"
Plain Grandmother was taken aback for a moment after hearing her words. After seeing her innocent expression, she couldn't help but laugh and scold, "You little rascal... Hehe, when he goes back now, he's definitely going to get a beating!" Any family with such a wasteful child would be driven to despair.
"Hmph, serves him right! Who told him to hit Zhao Yun?" Qing Luan said without any sympathy for him.
"Why would he hit Zhao Yun?" Plain Grandmother asked with concern. She felt comfortable here; the children treated her well and respected her. So she genuinely cared for these kids, loving them as if they were her own, unwilling to see them suffer even a little bit. "Zhao Yun, did that person hit you?" Her protective tone deeply shocked Qing Luan.
Sometimes, blood relations don't mean much; it's the heart that counts.
"No," Zhao Yun grinned foolishly and said, "Hehe, that guy is foolish; he fell for Sister Qing Luan's trick. Hmph, let's see if he gets beaten when he goes back." It was hilarious that someone could be so oblivious to something so obvious.
