"Delicious, delicious," Tide exclaimed cheerfully, chewing on the food in his mouth.
Qing Luan instructed Qin'er to bring chopsticks and then taught everyone how to eat without getting pricked. In the blink of an eye, the pot of Fortune Shrimp was devoured by them. Zhao Yun, still wanting more, shouted that he wanted to eat again, which made everyone laugh.
"You all are enjoying your meal," Plain Grandmother grumbled as she cleaned up, "but you don't think about how this food is going into your stomach—what a waste!" They were truly unconcerned and continued to eat happily, while she was worried sick. She couldn't understand what the young lady was thinking—inviting people cost money, buying fish was a loss, and with so many guests, she had no idea what was going on in her mind.
Qing Luan rubbed her belly, a happy smile spreading across her face. However, after hearing Plain Grandmother's complaints, a thought suddenly struck her—everyone here was afraid of getting pricked by the Fortune Shrimp and thus dared not eat it. What if they peeled the shells and then dried them with various flavors? Would anyone want that?
With this idea in mind, but having finished everything today, she could only wait for another day to try it out.
After several hours of busy work, seven or eight people toiled until late at night and finally prepared all the fish according to Qing Luan's instructions. They were all so exhausted that they could hardly lift their hands.
As night deepened, Qing Luan felt it inappropriate to keep them working and instructed them to come back tomorrow.
Since the night had already turned cool, the cleaned fish hung in the well would not spoil. Meanwhile, Qing Luan cooked the processed Mako Shark meat overnight.
Everyone was curious; two large pots of fish meat were being cooked like this—wasn't that a waste since they couldn't possibly eat it all? No matter how much they asked, Qing Luan remained mysteriously tight-lipped about it, refusing to serve any of the fish. Instead, she left it in the pot and sent everyone off to sleep.
Early the next morning, busy figures appeared in the courtyard.
Qing Luan asked Plain Grandmother to start a fire and reprocess the fish cooked yesterday. A-Song was also summoned by Qing Luan to do hard labor, continuously stirring the cooked fish with a spatula... The fire was fierce, and A-Song worked quickly; soon enough, a fragrant aroma wafted from the pot as the once large pieces of fish gradually dried into smaller bits.
After nearly half an hour of stir-frying (with Qing Luan helping in between), Qing Luan finally instructed A-Song to stop. Looking at the fluffy bits of fish in the pot, a satisfied smile appeared on Qing Luan's face as she directed A-Song to prepare the other pot in the same manner.
When dawn broke, Tide and Zhao Yun got up, and Qing Luan brought them the porridge and stir-fried fish that Qin'er had prepared. As soon as Tide and the others tasted the fish, they immediately exclaimed how delicious it was, which left Plain Grandmother puzzled. Curious, she took a bite herself and agreed that it was indeed tasty.
Seeing their unanimous praise, Qing Luan smiled and revealed the secret, "The Mako Shark has plenty of tender meat. The boneless fish is simmered in rich broth, infusing it with flavor. After being stir-fried until dry, it can be eaten directly without any bones, making it perfect for children and the elderly."
"That's true," Plain Grandmother nodded as she recalled something. "Those wealthy families have the money but are afraid their pampered children will suffer, so they generally don't eat much fish. If this stir-fried fish were sold outside, it would definitely be a hit."
"Exactly," Qing Luan said, snapping her fingers. "Now that this is done, we need to prepare Ribbonfish. Plain Grandmother, please chop the ginger into very fine pieces, the finer the better, understood?"
"Got it," Plain Grandmother replied, genuinely not complaining about anything at this moment.
