"Yes!" Qin'er suppressed the laughter that threatened to burst from her throat and said disdainfully, "Sigh, let's hurry and find a place to wash up, or we might get dirty ourselves."
A-Song stood beside Qing Luan, listening to the conversation between the mistress and her maid. Her lips twitched, and a black line appeared on her forehead as she felt a deep admiration for her young lady.
"Stop right there," just as the three of them were about to leave, a girl holding a room key rushed over, pointing at them with an air of arrogance. "Do you think this is some kind of place where you can come and go as you please?"
With her back turned to the arrogant voice, Qing Luan raised an eyebrow and silently laughed.
"Miss, what do you want?" Qin'er turned around with a charming smile and asked. She looked exceptionally obedient. "Is the shopkeeper so eager to have us leave that you want us to stay for a meal?"
A-Song stood by, mourning for the trouble-seeking girl. Why did she have to provoke someone like this young lady, who hid her anger behind laughter? Just dealing with Qin'er alone was already enough trouble.
"Do you... do you know that Tianxiang Restaurant is the best and most expensive in the capital? How dare you insult it? Aren't you afraid that the boss of Tianxiang Restaurant will make it impossible for you to survive in the capital?" Hmph, who didn't know about the powerful backing of Tianxiang Restaurant? Offending them would mean disaster for this girl.
"The best restaurant?" Qing Luan murmured, revealing an angelic smile as she shook her head and sighed. "I doubt it will remain number one for long!"
The crowd gathered at the entrance gasped upon hearing her words, murmuring among themselves about what she meant.
"Miss, what do you mean by that?" Qin'er asked curiously, eager to satisfy everyone's curiosity.
The shopkeeper was drenched in cold sweat, fearing further trouble. She felt nothing but disdain for this troublemaking young lady, wondering how she had ever thought well of her. Now it seemed she might end up regretting it.
"Qin'er, they say Tianxiang Restaurant is the best, but we don't have the qualifications to stay there. If I build a place in the capital that's better than Tianxiang Restaurant, then I won't be embarrassed!" Qing Luan said casually, but those listening gasped in shock.
"Wow, no way! She's going to open a place better than Tianxiang Restaurant? Her tone is too arrogant!"
"Exactly! Who doesn't know that Tianxiang Restaurant has the best business and reputation in the capital?"
"Cut it out! If the reputation is good, how could they possibly look down on others?" Someone in the crowd protested.
"Opening a restaurant?" Qin'er’s face lit up, realizing how impressive her lady was, creating a buzz for their yet-to-open establishment with just a few words.
"Just opening it for fun, to pass the time," Qing Luan said, glancing at the pale-faced Shopkeeper, then calmly walked out of Tianxiang Restaurant.
After the three newcomers left Tianxiang Restaurant, the onlookers didn’t disperse. They followed closely behind, speculating whether these women were daughters of some officials or prominent figures in the capital given their bold demeanor.
"Here, this is a gift from my lady," Qin'er said as she trailed behind her mistress toward the carriage. As they approached, she noticed a beggar sitting cross-legged against the wall, asleep. With a swift motion, she tossed down the five taels of silver she had just received from the Shopkeeper and turned away without a change in expression.
The sound startled the beggar and left the crowd dumbfounded. They never expected that the maid would so casually throw down five taels of silver—after all, that amount could sustain an ordinary family for several years.
Staring at the sudden appearance of silver in his bowl, the beggar didn’t even dare to blink, fearing he was dreaming.
The Shopkeeper standing at the entrance of Tianxiang Restaurant felt a pang in his heart upon witnessing this scene. He thought to himself that if she didn’t want it, why leave it for a beggar?
"Haha, Tianlin Brother, this is quite interesting, isn’t it?" Two distinguished young men in the crowd watched as the carriage drove away. One of them teased.
"This Shopkeeper can retire now!" They had money and still created trouble; such people were bad news for their family.
"Haha, poor Tavern Keeper! Just like that, he lost his job," said a man in white. His smile was as charming as his appearance, while the man he referred to as Tianlin Brother appeared gloomy and indifferent. Even among ordinary folk, people instinctively kept their distance from him.
"What do you think she is?" The earlier light-hearted joke echoed in his mind. He felt that her mention of opening a restaurant wasn’t just a joke; he harbored similar thoughts.
"Who knows?" The man in white shrugged helplessly. "I’ve never seen her before. From what she said, she probably just arrived in the capital and got into trouble with the Shopkeeper—she must be feeling quite frustrated right now!"
"Let’s go follow them," he said, curiosity piqued about this woman and whether she had the ability to back up her words.
The carriage twisted and turned, finally coming to a stop in front of a courtyard. A-Song got out to knock on the door, while Qing Luan also stepped down from the vehicle. Their movements were graceful and unpretentious, stirring curiosity among the onlookers.
With a creak, the door opened to reveal a little head with braids. Upon seeing the visitors, the child rushed forward, beaming with joy and laughter.
"Sister, you finally came back!" Tide exclaimed, her eyes reddening as she saw her long-missed relative, the smile from earlier fading away.
Looking at the now taller Tide, Qing Luan's thoughts swirled. She reached out to pat the girl's head and chuckled lightly, "Tide is so good; you spotted your sister right away!" It had been four years since they last met, yet the little girl hadn't changed much—only grown taller.
"Of course!" Tide replied proudly, lifting her chin in a haughty manner, which made Qin'er and A-Song smile.
"Miss," Plain Grandmother heard the commotion at the door and hurried out. Seeing her beloved miss safe and sound after four long years brought tears to her eyes that she couldn't hold back; they streamed down her face.
"Plain Grandmother," upon meeting the old woman's concerned gaze and joyful tears, Qing Luan felt a lump in her throat. Compared to their excitement, she felt somewhat heartless for not returning home in all those years, only sending word for them to come to the capital just before her arrival.
