How many young women have had their bright futures buried by the interests of their families, and how many have been saved by someone? It was truly strange that Azure Phoenix was rescued halfway through.
"Sister, don't worry about who saved Azure Phoenix. It must be a good thing for her. You should think about how Chen Xiaode, that coward, will panic when he realizes the child is missing. He'll probably think you sent someone to kidnap her and will come demanding her back," he knew all too well what kind of person that man was.
"He's coming to demand her back?" A flash of hatred crossed Zhu Clan's eyes as she disdainfully said, "Perfect! I want him to return my two daughters, or I'll accuse him of murdering his own daughters and ruin his reputation. Let's see how proud he remains!" As long as her daughters were not in his hands, there was nothing she feared.
The disappearance of Chen Qingyuan was tightly kept under wraps by Chen Residence, and outsiders had no idea. If they knew both sisters were missing, things would escalate dramatically.
"What should we do now?" Chen Xiaode panicked, pacing back and forth in the room without any ideas. "How could Azure Duck go missing? What kind of useless people did you send? They couldn't even keep an eye on one person!" He was furious, thinking everything was caused by Huang.
Huang, accused by him, felt deeply wronged. Everything she did was for him, yet he showed no gratitude and instead berated her. She gritted her teeth in resentment. "My lord, it was such a busy day today; the maids and nannies were all attending to guests. Who could possibly keep an eye on Azure Duck?" Sighing, she regretted not thinking of a way to substitute one for another sooner; otherwise, that girl wouldn't have escaped.
"What good does it do to say these things?" He had no patience left and snapped angrily. "Now they want us to hand over the girl, specifically the Legitimate Daughter. Otherwise, they'll go to the emperor and accuse me of a fraudulent marriage. What are we going to do?"
"How would I know what to do?" Cornered, Huang threw up her hands in defeat. "Your precious daughters ran off on their own without caring about us at all! What can I do about it?" That wretched little girl! Had she known this disaster would happen today, she would have dealt with them earlier to avoid trouble.
Huang never considered that all this chaos stemmed from her own actions; it was just that the twin sisters hadn't followed her plans, leading to complications.
"If the emperor finds out, even your father won't be able to save me," Chen Xiaode murmured nervously. As long as it didn't reach the Golden Throne Hall, even if the emperor found out, he wouldn't pry too much since it was a family matter. But if someone reported it... then he would be in deep trouble. "I don't want to lose my position... I don't want to lose my position... Wait! Yan'er! We still have Yan'er!," he thought of his legitimate daughter, and his eyes immediately lit up.
"No way!" Huang screamed in denial of his idea, frantically stating, "If you dare ruin my daughter, I'll fight you!"
Looking at her furious expression, Chen Xiaode suddenly laughed—a laugh that seemed inexplicable. "When you wanted to ruin my daughter, you told me it was for her own good—wealth and glory right at your fingertips; what could you possibly be dissatisfied with? But now you're saying I can't ruin your daughter? If you don't allow it, just wait for the entire Chen Family to follow you into the grave!" With that, he turned and left without looking back at the woman who had been by his side for so many years.
"Master," Huang's body went limp as he collapsed onto the ground, watching the figure leave without a backward glance. Tears streamed down his face as he murmured, "That's your daughter; how could you bear to push her into the fire?"
Azure Phoenix certainly did not expect that her moment of hatred would manifest so quickly. At this moment, she felt completely lost and bewildered, unsure of what had just happened. All she remembered was severing ties with the Chen family before getting into the bridal sedan, her mind swirling with thoughts of revenge. However, she was unexpectedly kidnapped and tossed around, not knowing where she was being taken.
Inside the room, everything was well arranged. Azure Phoenix, dressed in a wedding gown, was not bound or restrained, and the tea and snacks were warm. This piqued her curiosity about who would go to such lengths to abduct her and treat her so well.
"Knock knock," a voice called from outside the door. "Miss Chen, my master wishes to see you. Is it convenient now?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Qingyuan's face flashed with nervousness. But then she thought to herself that if she wasn't afraid of death, what was there to be nervous about? So she replied, "It's convenient; come in!" Although she thought this way, she felt a strong curiosity about this master. She had been kidnapped, yet the person who came was polite and courteous, even more so than her own maid, leaving her even more perplexed.
With a creak, the door opened, and Plain Grandmother entered with two maids. Smiling, she said, "Miss, don't be afraid. My master said that this wedding gown is inauspicious, so she wants you to change into this outfit before meeting her." Sighing inwardly, she thought how different Miss was; anyone else would have been crying by now instead of fussing over so many details.
"Alright," Azure Phoenix said as she looked at the pink embroidered yellow skirt that Plain Grandmother held and then glanced down at the glaring wedding gown on her body. Without hesitation, she nodded.
After changing out of the glaring wedding gown and removing the heavy crown and excess jewelry, she slipped into the prepared pink yellow skirt. Simple yet elegant, it highlighted her graceful demeanor and made Azure Phoenix smile involuntarily.
"Miss is truly beautiful and graceful; that wedding gown was indeed an eyesore. I'll take it away and burn it to dispel any bad luck," Plain Grandmother joked upon seeing the beauty smile.
"Thank you!" Azure Phoenix sincerely expressed her gratitude for the kindness shown to her. Although she did not know this person, every gesture made her feel warm inside—a long-lost warmth that brought tears to her eyes.
"Miss, if you wish to thank someone, thank my master instead; all of this was instructed by her. Please wait a moment; my master will be here shortly!" After completing her task, Plain Grandmother gracefully withdrew.
Having changed clothes brought an inexplicable sense of calmness to Azure Phoenix. With a gentle smile on her lips, she thought about how someone had saved her—perhaps out of pity for not wanting to see her fall into a pit of fire—so she no longer felt restless but waited quietly for the arrival of the master mentioned by Plain Grandmother.
"Miss, please have some tea," a clear yet restrained voice whispered in Azure Phoenix's ear as she was lost in thought. This unexpected voice puzzled her; it was a maid, not the master mentioned by the old woman.
"You... Qin'er?" As she inadvertently looked up, she saw someone familiar yet unrecognizable. Azure Phoenix stood up abruptly, shaking her head in disbelief as she murmured, "No, it can't be. Qin'er is with Fourth Sister. How could she possibly be here?"
