"Miss, you actually remember me, Qin'er," as soon as Qin'er heard her whisper, she immediately knelt down on both knees, bowing her head and choking back tears as she said, "Qin'er pays her respects to the Miss!" She was just a maid, yet her mistress remembered her so well; what great fortune that must be.
"Is it really... really you, Qin'er?" Azure Phoenix was stunned. She quickly stepped forward, kneeling and grabbing Qin'er's hands as she asked, "Where is Fourth Sister? Is she alive? Please tell me, quickly!" Upon encountering someone familiar, she felt that heaven had not been unkind to her; all her past complaints vanished in an instant.
Dizzy from being shaken by her mistress, Qin'er cried and laughed at the same time, unsure how to respond. "Miss, Fourth Miss is doing well. She's fine. Don't worry; please get up; the ground is cold." Saying this, she helped Azure Phoenix to her feet and then urged her to sit down before continuing, "It was Fourth Miss who sent someone to rescue you!"
"It was Fourth Sister who saved me?" She had thought of many possibilities in her mind but never imagined that it was her sister, who had disappeared five years ago and was presumed dead, who had saved her. The overwhelming joy left her momentarily stunned, struggling to process this incredible news. "But where is she? Where is she now?"
"Big Sister, I'm here," Qing Luan had been standing at the door for quite some time, but the two inside were too excited to notice her. She stepped inside and shot a glance at Qin'er, scolding, "You were just supposed to bring tea! How could you make my divine sister cry? You really deserve a beating!"
"Miss," Qin'er cried and laughed simultaneously, not taking her threat seriously at all.
" Luan'er?" The changes over five years were neither too big nor too small. The frail and timid girl she once knew was long gone. The person standing before her now had a tall and proportionate figure, skin fair with a rosy hue, stunning features that captivated anyone who looked at her, and an air of noble independence that made it hard to believe.
"Big Sister," Qing Luan looked at her with some unease, unable to believe it. She pouted and murmured, "Has Luan'er become ugly? Does Big Sister not like me anymore?" Ah, this reunion should have been filled with tears of joy, but she truly did not want to cry; instead, she could only act like a clown to cheer up the beauty.
"Pfft!" Azure Phoenix had intended to cry but found herself unable to do so after Qing Luan's antics. Instead, a look of relief and joy spread across her tear-streaked face as she took Qing Luan's hand and said, "Big Sister has thought about you day and night, believing she would never see you again. I never expected..."
At this point, she choked up again and couldn't continue.
Seeing her sister turn into another tearful person made Qing Luan feel weak all over. Yet she understood how difficult it would be for her sister not to cry—having escaped death only to reunite with family; how could one not be emotional? "I missed you too, Big Sister. I just had some reasons before that prevented me from recognizing you. It wasn't until I learned about your troubles that I arranged for someone to rescue you!"
Initially, she had wondered if saving this sister would be in vain since they had only interacted once or twice before parting ways years ago; she hardly knew what kind of person Azure Phoenix was. If it weren't for Qin'er's desperate pleas, she might not have acted at all. But seeing Qin'er earlier made it clear how much Azure Phoenix cared for her Fourth Sister.
As the excitement of their reunion faded away, Qin'er brought water for Azure Phoenix to wash her face. Then the two sisters sat down together to inquire about each other's lives over the past five years apart.
"Sister Four, when did you come back?" Azure Phoenix asked curiously, recalling what she had just said.
"Three months ago," Qing Luan replied honestly. "I have learned some things about Home and understand that Mother has gone to Uncle's house."
"You've been back for so long, why haven't you looked for Mother or us?" There was a sense of guilt in Mother's heart for the lost daughter, but she felt helpless. "All these years, I've regretted not being able to keep you... Please don't hate me; I was forced into it!"
"I know," Qing Luan said. If she truly wanted to hate, she wouldn't have saved Azure Phoenix. "There’s a reason I didn’t seek you out!"
"What reason?" What could be more important than reuniting with family?
"The Chen Family has long declared me dead. What identity do I have to return?" Qing Luan spoke without a hint of emotion as she laid out her plans. "Besides, if they find out I'm still alive, I might have to die again!"
"What?" Azure Phoenix gasped in shock, gripping Qing Luan's hand tightly as if holding on would prevent her sister from disappearing. "What did they do?" They had no idea about the extent of it; they only guessed that Aunt Huang would never let go of her sister, and now it seemed she truly had done so.
"They destroyed the entire village to kill me," Qing Luan revealed without holding back. She had no way out and could only tie herself to her sister. She recounted the events of that year and the path she had taken, then gritted her teeth and said, "This Blood Feud will not go unpunished; they must pay in blood!"
Hearing that the entire village had been killed because of Qing Luan and knowing that her sister had nearly been murdered herself sent a shiver through Azure Phoenix. Her face was filled with terror; such things felt too distant from her reality. "Revenge is necessary, but Luan'er, that's the Prime Minister! We can't possibly take him down!" It was precisely for this reason that Mother had endured humiliation while waiting for revenge.
"We're in the dark while they are in the light; it all depends on who plays their cards better," Qing Luan said confidently. She knew who her enemies were, but Prime Minister Huang would never suspect that his enemy was a fifteen-year-old girl—this was her greatest advantage.
Looking at her confident and radiant sister, Azure Phoenix felt a wave of emotions. Among the Three Sisters, Mother had always worried most about the stubborn Sister Four, yet now it seemed she was the one who had achieved the most.
The two sisters talked throughout the night, even having their meal inside until dawn broke and the roosters crowed before they finally fell asleep.
At noon, after lunch, Qing Luan said to Azure Phoenix, "Sister, do you know where Azure Duck has gone?" This news was relayed by A-Song's messenger. Sometimes running a restaurant brings unexpected benefits, as many pieces of information can be gathered inadvertently.
"Azure Duck?" Azure Phoenix paused for a moment, then shook her head and replied, "When I was getting into the bridal sedan chair, Azure Duck was still at Home. She made me promise repeatedly that I wouldn't do anything foolish before she let go of my hand. Luan'er, has Azure Duck really disappeared?"
"Yes!" Qing Luan nodded seriously and said, "I received news that the Zhou family knows you're missing and wants the Chen family to present another Legitimate Daughter. Otherwise, this matter will definitely escalate to the Emperor. Chen Xiaode and that wretched woman panicked.
