Though her gaze was shy and she occasionally stole glances at others, she thought to herself that this man was not simple. His expressions remained unchanged through laughter and anger; either he was genuinely that good, or he had a deep cunning. Either way, such a person would be difficult to deal with—she did not believe there were truly good people in the world.
"Young Marquis," who would dare to call his name directly? The Zhu Clan member reached out to touch Qing Luan's black hair, heartbroken as she said, "Even though I have been cast aside by the Chen Family, the child is still a piece of flesh from my body..." Before she could finish her sentence, Huang interrupted her.
"You know you've been cast aside; since that's the case, what face do you have to show to others?" Huang was completely unreserved, his words sharp. "If you insist on recognizing Qing Luan, you'll only bring her shame. Is this what a mother should do?"
What a righteous argument! It was enough to make one applaud!
"Better to be unable to hold one's head high than to lose one's life, right?!" Zhu Wujie, who had been silent until now, fixed his fierce black eyes on the arrogant woman with hatred. "My elder sister's three daughters—one nearly fell into a pit of fire and has gone missing, another has disappeared, and the youngest has just returned after barely escaping death. You dare say that being with her mother is shameful? Ha! Being with you is not shameful; it will only lead to death!"
"You..." Huang's face changed at his accusations, turning ferocious. "What nonsense are you spouting? Those two children went missing not because they wanted to! Besides, I found such a good match for her, and she actually ran away from the wedding—what a disgrace!"
"That good match is better suited for your daughter," Zhu Wujie shot back without hesitation, sneering coldly. "I heard your daughter was adamant about not marrying; ha! Perhaps the match was indeed too good..."
Qing Luan felt like an onlooker, unable to voice her thoughts as she listened. She mused that this uncle was quite cunning; he clearly knew where it hurt but continued to poke at it relentlessly while maintaining an expression of concern for others.
As she silently laughed at this thought, a probing gaze swept past her and then returned. This made Qing Luan feel alert. Fortunately, her expression remained one of confusion—was it him? She looked up as if pretending to say something but timidly swallowed her words... In just a moment, she realized that the person observing her was none other than the Young Marquis.
What could his intentions be? They should have had no connection! In fact, aside from those close to her, no one knew she was the boss of Jade Pavilion and Ruyi Tower.
Huang was so furious with Zhu Wujie that she felt dizzy and had to be supported by Gui Mama as she gasped for breath. Zhu Wujie appeared shameless in contrast, creating a stark difference between them.
"Stop arguing," Qiu Mingqi said quickly when he saw everyone getting agitated. "You’re all fighting for her sake; why not ask her opinion and see who she wants to follow..." With so many women around, it became quite noisy—one cried while another howled, making it all very bothersome.
Even Huang dared not be too reckless in front of him, let alone someone from the Zhu Family. So when his words fell silent, all eyes turned toward Qing Luan.
“Qing Luan, come back with your mother, okay?” Zhu Clan gently coaxed, fearing that her daughter, unaware of the dangers, might walk into a trap.
“Qing Luan, I’ve prepared a room for you. Your father is waiting at home; he misses you very much. Please come back with me!” Huang chimed in, putting aside her earlier anger and speaking kindly.
Seeing the hopeful gazes from both of them, Qing Luan sighed inwardly but shook her head in fear and anxiety. “No, I don’t want to,” she cried.
Huang, seeing that she was being so stubborn, hardened her heart and said fiercely, “Take her away. I want to see who dares to stop me today.” Hmph, they were tired of living if they thought they could challenge her.
“No, I won’t go! I’m not going anywhere!” Qing Luan shouted in tears, refusing to let anyone grab her. “Young Marquis, help me! Please save me…” She struggled and ran to Qiu Mingqi’s side, hiding behind him and pleading in terror, her expression pitiful enough to soften anyone’s heart.
This sudden change startled everyone, especially A-Song, who was secretly protecting Qing Luan. He wondered what kind of act the young lady was putting on now. Wasn’t she supposed to be planning to return to the Chen Family? Why was she clinging to this Young Marquis now?
In truth, A-Song had guessed correctly; Qing Luan did want to return to the Chen Family. However, Zhu Clan had unexpectedly interrupted her plan. There was no way she could follow Huang back under these circumstances—it would not only raise suspicion but also attract attention. Therefore, seeking help from the Young Marquis was the best solution at that moment.
This thought crossed her mind in an instant; no one expected Qing Luan to consider the consequences so quickly. They all stared in shock as she rushed toward the Young Marquis for help.
“ Luan'er,” Zhu Clan’s heart shattered at the sight of her seeking help from someone else.
Qiu Mingqi felt a sense of satisfaction seeing her turn to him for assistance but put on a troubled expression as he said, “Miss, we are not acquainted; it wouldn’t be right for you to follow me.”
Ah, so you know we’re not acquainted? Then why are you meddling in other people’s affairs? You still manage to keep a straight face while doing it; it’s truly disgusting.
“I… I’m scared,” Qing Luan trembled slightly as if to prove her fear was genuine. “They are all bad people; I don’t want to go back with them.”
A-Song’s mouth twitched as he listened to the young lady’s soft voice and saw her weak and helpless demeanor. He couldn’t help but feel that something was off.
Suppressing the smile at the corners of his mouth, Qiu Mingqi feigned helplessness as he looked at Huang and the Zhu Clan members. "Since Qingluan is unwilling to go back with you, let her stay here for now. I will slowly persuade her. What do you think?" He was determined to play the good guy to the end.
Though the Zhu Clan felt heartbroken, they did not want to scare her, so they could only nod in agreement. Huang, on the other hand, thought that as long as Qingluan was not taken back by the Zhu Clan, there was still a chance for her. Thus, she pretended to be generous and agreed.
The group had arrived in a hurry and left without dragging their feet; however, it was the Zhu Clan who left in tears, making everyone feel a pang of sorrow in their hearts.
"Miss, since you're here, why not sit down? The food at Ruyi Tower is quite good..." He made himself clear, believing she would understand.
"Thank you, Young Marquis," Qing Luan was no fool; she readily accepted and gracefully took a seat.
To showcase his uniqueness, Qiu Mingqi ordered all of Ruyi Tower's signature dishes. He introduced each dish while serving Qing Luan. Meanwhile, Qing Luan pretended to be oblivious, listening to his idle chatter while enjoying the delicious food. Eating good food was a delightful experience, but unfortunately, there was an annoying fly nearby that made it uncomfortable.
In the private room of Ruyi Tower, Qing Luan changed into comfortable clothes and lay on the soft couch, absentmindedly playing with her loose hair. She remained silent, leaving A-Song and Sister Yun feeling particularly uneasy.
