Looking at the blood-soaked ground, Qing Luan's eyes were filled with murderous intent.
"Miss, are you alright?" Seeing her stare at the bloody scene in silence for a long time, Qin'er approached with concern and supported her.
"Qin'er, do you think I'm that fragile?" Qing Luan teased Qin'er’s anxiety, looking up at the sky and sighing, "After all these years together, has there ever been a moment without bloodshed?" Those four years had been filled with hardships and life-and-death challenges, and only Qin'er, who had always been by her side, understood the extent of it.
"..." Her words left Qin'er silent. She knew that no matter what happened, her mistress would never fall. She had once said: if she fell, they would not survive either. So even if it meant death, she would stand. Such words were not easily forgotten.
It was her excessive worry for her mistress that made her so anxious.
"Master, what should we do with these people?" Mei asked after checking and finding no survivors.
"Leave them," Qing Luan coldly replied, her murderous aura intensifying.
Upon hearing this, Qin'er panicked. "Miss, we can't just leave them like this! If someone finds out, it will scare people!" The sight of blood was not something anyone could easily bear; when she first witnessed death before her eyes, it took her days to recover.
"Find someone from our side to pretend to discover them and report to the authorities. Let’s see how those officials react," she wanted to provoke those who sought to kill her and see whether they would panic or bury their secrets deeper.
"Understood!" Qin'er’s eyes lit up as she nodded in realization.
"How about... I take care of it?" Xuanyuan Rui, who had been searching for Qing Luan, was drawn in by the smell of blood. Having experienced too much life and death on the battlefield, even a hint of blood could catch his attention. Following the scent into the alley, he found Qing Luan and her companions and spoke lightly.
The four members of Chimera turned in surprise upon hearing someone speak—someone who could appear among them without a sound was undoubtedly formidable, leaving them momentarily stunned.
Seeing Xuanyuan Rui, Qing Luan curiously asked, "What are you doing here?" If it weren't for the suppressed murderous intent in his eyes that she had noticed, she might have suspected he was behind this murder.
As soon as she brought up something that irritated him, he became angry and complained with a hint of grievance: "I went to Ruyi Tower to find you. A-Song pointed upstairs; I thought you were in the secret chamber. I waited there for half a day... When I came out, you had disappeared... A-Song said you left with Fu Tianlin and the others, so I came out to look for you." The slight jealousy in his tone was unmistakable.
His aggrieved expression and sorrowful gaze were completely at odds with the current bloody scene. Yet he managed to put on a look that made her break out in a cold sweat. With an exasperated sigh, he said, "A-Song doesn’t know that much; you trust him too much!" It could only be said that both of them were fools.
No, at least A-Song was more of an idiot; why did this guy trust him so much? He carried so many secrets, not even revealing his real name, yet he managed to win over A-Song.
When she got back, she would have to interrogate him thoroughly, lest she end up being sold without even realizing it.
“He’s your person, of course I trust him!” If he had doubts, then Qing Luan would have lost her trust in him.
“Miss, Water Young Master,” Qin'er rolled her eyes, feeling defeated by them. “Is this really the right time for love talk?” With all the blood on the ground, how could they be so relaxed? Were they even human!?
“Qin'er,” Qing Luan was taken aback by her words and shot her a glance before turning to Chimera. “You all go ahead; I’ll leave this place to Water Young Master.” She hadn’t overlooked what he had just said; if it could be used, then it should be used. Otherwise, it would be too unfair to herself.
“ Luan'er,” after Chimera disappeared, she really left with Qin'er, who called out in grievance, accusing her of being so heartless as to leave him alone here.
“Come find me when you’re done,” she left without looking back, but Qing Luan wore a calm smile as she tossed out that line before disappearing around the corner.
“That’s more like it,” satisfied with her promise, he furrowed his brow as he looked at the lifeless bodies of the black-clad men on the ground. A cold killing intent emerged from him as a bloodthirsty smile crept onto his lips. “I just can’t hold back anymore…”
What happened in the end, Qing Luan didn’t know because she forbade Qin'er from telling Sister Yun about them; it was as if this matter had nothing to do with them.
“What happened?” Huang asked in shock upon seeing a man who had lost an arm. “With so many people brought along, you still couldn’t kill that wretched woman?” If she couldn’t have what she wanted, then she would destroy it so that no one else could have it either.
That Qiu Mingqi had the same goal as her: everything related to Jade Pavilion. If he truly asked the emperor for a marriage decree and married Qing Luan, then her plans would come to nothing. She would ruin Chen Qingluan, making sure everyone ended up disappointed.
“She has helpers,” the black-clad man replied through gritted teeth. “She anticipated someone would try to kill her. Just now, when the assassins arranged by the miss were toying with her, she didn’t even flinch; neither did that Girl, who even showed signs of excitement… I was too careless!”
Knowing something was off yet still taking action—surviving was just luck on his part.
“Who helped her?” The shock in Huang’s eyes was impossible to conceal.
She did not know what kind of extraordinary experiences Chen Qingluan had encountered over the past five years, or why she seemed like a completely different person—arrogant, confident, and indifferent—so unlike her previous self that it made her doubt whether the person before her was truly Chen Qingluan. But she had the best evidence to confirm it: Qin'er, who she could not deny.
"I don't know. When Chen Qingluan simply mentioned taking action, those four highly skilled men killed the assassins surrounding her," he recalled, still feeling a lingering fear as if he had narrowly escaped death.
"How could she have such powerful allies?" Huang waved his hand, dismissing him to tend to his wounds while murmuring in confusion. "Damn it, how many trump cards does she have that I don't know about? Hmph, she's just a little girl; I refuse to believe I can't subdue her!" If she couldn't be used for his purposes, then she must die.
Chen Qingluan had to die; otherwise, this situation posed a threat to both her and the Huang Family. She didn't even care about her own grandmother and father; how could she possibly care about the Prime Minister's Residence? That was simply impossible!
With this thought, the killing intent in Huang's eyes grew stronger. No matter what, he had to make Chen Qingluan disappear; otherwise, he would be unable to eat or sleep peacefully.
A few days later, in a secret chamber.
"Is the matter resolved?" Qing Luan asked somewhat dejectedly upon seeing him arrive late.
