In the academy.
Zhao Yun was sulking with Qing Luan because Tide had gone to the Zhu Residence, and he could not go due to his identity being unsuitable for exposure. This made him quite frustrated; he wished he could deal with Prime Minister Huang at once to avoid the three of them being unable to reunite and having to hide their identities.
However, no matter how much he complained, he could not refuse Qing Luan's decision, as it was ultimately for everyone's good.
"Zhao Yun," Bu Yun rushed over, panting heavily and calling out loudly.
"Bu Yun?" Zhao Yun turned around, puzzled. "Didn’t you go home?" How could he return so soon? Although the Bu Family was not as prosperous as before, home seemed much calmer now, lacking the previous intrigues. This allowed Bu Yun to relax both physically and mentally, making him enjoy returning home more often.
"I... huff... I need to find you," Bu Yun gasped, flashing a bright smile. "No, someone wants to see you and asked me to bring you to him!"
"Who wants to see me?" Instead of curiosity, a hint of wariness arose in Zhao Yun. He did not know many people in the capital; his acquaintance with Bu Yun was primarily due to General Bu, which made him sense something amiss.
"It’s... huh? Why are they here?" Just as Bu Yun was about to answer, he noticed two figures entering through the academy gate and furrowed his brows in confusion.
"Who are they?" Zhao Yun subtly shifted back a little and asked in a low voice.
"They're from the Prime Minister's Residence," Bu Yun said with an innocent smile.
Grinding his teeth, Zhao Yun knew this was not Bu Yun's fault; he could not hate him. They had both used each other in the past, so there was no room for resentment. "Bu Yun, if you consider me a friend, please send a message to Ruyi Tower. Tell them that Zhao Yun is in trouble!" After saying this, he turned and headed into the academy without looking back.
"Zhao Yun," this sudden turn of events left Bu Yun dumbfounded. When he saw the people who had followed him chasing after Zhao Yun with menacing glares, he realized with shock that he might have done something very foolish.
"Why...?" Standing there in a daze, Bu Yun was still conflicted. As Zhao Yun's words echoed in his mind, he suddenly jolted awake and turned to run toward the academy gate... He had made a mistake and needed to find a way to make amends.
At this moment, the Zhu Family was bustling with activity; everyone had gathered there, and the atmosphere was joyful and cheerful. Thanks to Tide's presence, the warmth of the gathering felt even more inviting.
"From now on, you can call me 'Mother' just like Qing Luan," Zhu Clan said, embracing the adorable little girl with great joy, eagerly revealing her identity.
Tide felt a mix of nervousness and excitement, biting her lip tightly, unsure of what to do. In her mind, she had no parents, and her grandmother's appearance was a blur. The only ones she truly remembered were her sister and Zhao Yun brother. Yet, the longing for maternal love had never faded; Plain Grandmother could not replace the affection a mother would give. So when she heard Zhu Clan's words, she felt both eager and timid, afraid it was all just a dream.
"Fool, why aren't you calling?" Seeing her hesitation, Qing Luan playfully tapped her on the head, understanding her feelings.
Their hearts, yearning for maternal love, had never changed! In her past life, she was an orphan longing for a mother's affection. In this life, it was a desire unfulfilled—not Zhu Clan's fault, but rather a flaw of this era.
"Mother," she called out sweetly and timidly, prompting Zhu Clan to respond cheerfully. Then she hugged Tide, planting a kiss on her cheek that made Tide blush deeply, causing smiles to bloom on everyone's faces.
Zhu Clan introduced Tide to the members of the Zhu Family. Madam Zhu presented a gold bracelet as a meeting gift, which made Tide quite anxious. However, after seeing Qing Luan nod approvingly in secret, she accepted it.
"Miss," at that moment, A-Song rushed in from outside. They had visited the Zhu Family numerous times and no longer needed to announce their presence. Therefore, his anxious tone puzzled Qing Luan, who asked in confusion, "What happened?" Over the years, A-Song had become much steadier under her guidance; it was rare for anything to make him this nervous.
"I received news that Prime Minister Huang has set his sights on Zhao Yun. Right now, someone is pursuing him..." When he got this information, he nearly choked the messenger in anger.
"What?" Before he could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by Qing Luan, who felt the cheerful atmosphere shatter. Everyone's expressions turned tense and worried. "How does he know about Zhao Yun? Who brought you this news?"
"The person is outside," A-Song cut straight to the point. "They are chasing Zhao Yun at the academy..."
"Let's go," without a second thought, Qing Luan turned to leave but was stopped by Zhu Wujie.
"Qing Luan, if you go like this and confront Prime Minister Huang, it won't end well. Let me send someone instead!" Knowing their complicated history, Zhu Wujie feared things would escalate further and that it would be detrimental to Qing Luan, so he expressed his concern.
"Uncle, I know what I'm doing. If the Zhu Family gets involved now, I'll be even more passive!" The reason why Prime Minister Huang hadn't targeted the Zhu Family was that her actions had nothing to do with them. If they intervened now, it would only increase her vulnerabilities in the future—something she did not want.
"Then... if you need anything, just tell me directly!" He always felt that his niece was far more composed than any sixteen-year-old girl should be.
"Mm!" Qing Luan nodded at him before turning to Tide and saying, "You stay here and don't go anywhere, understand?"
"I understand, Sister. I will make sure Brother Zhao Yun is safe!" She only had them; she really didn't want to lose anyone again.
"Yes, it will definitely happen!" Although she felt uncertain inside, she still gave the most reassuring promise.
The carriage was already prepared. When Qing Luan got into the carriage and saw that the person sitting inside was Bu Yun, she was momentarily taken aback but quickly regained her composure. The carriage sped along, and Qing Luan began to inquire about Zhao Yun... After learning the details from Bu Yun, Qing Luan did not blame him, knowing that this matter had nothing to do with him. After all, Prime Minister Huang was aware of Zhao Yun's existence; finding him wouldn't be difficult.
If it weren't for Bu Yun's misunderstanding, perhaps things would have been worse.
However, she was puzzled about how Prime Minister Huang knew of Zhao Yun's existence and even had a portrait; it was too strange!
To be honest, she hadn't seen Zhao Yun in a long time. She wasn't even sure what he looked like now...
"How did Prime Minister Huang know you were acquainted with Zhao Yun?" Qing Luan suppressed her worries and asked calmly.
Bu Yun felt uneasy inside; after all, Zhao Yun was in danger because of him. Seeing that she didn't blame him at all, he hesitantly replied, "I saw a portrait of Zhao Yun..."
