"You're quite confident, but you really don't understand Ye Ming's mindset," Shi Wannian remarked.
"What company do you work for?" Shi Wannian asked.
"I just interviewed with Tianchen Group yesterday," Ye Ming replied.
"The chairman of Tianchen Group is a friend of mine. I can get you in with just one word. But to be honest, Tianchen Group is still too small and lacks development prospects. How about this: if you're willing, you can come work for us at Remote Group. I'm in need of an assistant," Shi Wannian said, his tone dripping with disdain for Tianchen Group.
"Ye Ming, since Senior Shi is willing to promote you, what are you hesitating for? Hurry up and accept! Remote Group is much larger than Tianchen Group; getting a job there is a rare opportunity," Sun Weiwu urged when he saw Ye Ming hesitating.
"Senior Shi, I appreciate your kindness, but I want to rely on my own abilities. Tianchen Group is good enough for me," Ye Ming said, politely declining the offer.
"And also, Senior Shi, could you please not call me Mingming? It's a bit awkward since this is our first meeting," Ye Ming couldn't help but voice his discomfort.
"Alright then, I'll just call you by your name directly," Shi Wannian paused for a moment, a hint of embarrassment and displeasure flickering in his eyes.
The atmosphere turned awkward.
Zhao Wenjing quickly chimed in to ease the tension, "Ye Ming is a bit shy; calling him by name is fine. Senior Shi, could you ask if your company has any upcoming job fairs? I'd like to join your company."
"No, but if you're set on joining Remote Group, I can help you with that. Just let me know, and I'll keep an eye out for any recent openings," Shi Wannian casually mentioned, showcasing his high status and influence within the group.
"Thank you so much, Senior Shi," Zhao Wenjing expressed her gratitude.
In the ensuing conversation, Shi Wannian spoke grandly while Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu chimed in enthusiastically, leaving Ye Ming silent and looking down.
"Is everyone here? Ye Ming, you don’t have to treat today; I’ll take you all to Greenery Pavilion for dinner. It’s a restaurant owned by our president," Shi Wannian said as he glanced at the time—it was almost five o'clock.
"I’ve heard that the average spending at Greenery Pavilion is several thousand; it’s too expensive. I've heard of it but have never been there," Zhao Wenjing said excitedly.
"No worries; all the executives at Remote Group are members there and can enjoy a 30% discount. I’ll treat you all; we might even run into our president while dining there," Shi Wannian said generously.
"Really? I’ve heard that your group’s president Jiang Luyi is the most beautiful socialite in Shanghai. If I see her, I must get her autograph!" Zhao Wenjing exclaimed with excitement.
"Forget about getting an autograph or taking a photo; our President Jiang is famously an ice queen. To be honest, even I don’t dare to approach her," Shi Wannian said, revealing some trepidation regarding Jiang Luyi.
"Is she really that unapproachable? Aren't you an executive in the group?" Zhao Wenjing and the others were both surprised and curious.
"In our group, no one isn't afraid of her—even those old men on the board keep their distance from her. If you ever get the chance, you'll understand; she truly is an iceberg," Shi Wannian said with lingering fear.
"With what you're saying, I'm starting to hesitate about joining your company," Zhao Wenjing admitted nervously.
"Even if you join the company, you won't have any contact with President Jiang anyway, so there's no need to worry. Even I rarely interact with President Jiang on a regular basis," Shi Wannian reassured them.
