"You're really enjoying your meal, aren't you?" Chen Rui looked at Yuki Chiba, who was devouring her food with an insatiable appetite, and couldn't help but feel a bit shocked. Of course, amidst his astonishment, he couldn't resist teasing her a little.
"Because I'm happy," Yuki Chiba replied with a smile.
Chen Rui recalled the earlier events and felt a pang of guilt. The more he played, the more excited he became, while Yuki Chiba's condition seemed to deteriorate. In the end, he had to resort to forceful measures to bring her back to the room.
"Do you particularly enjoy feeling uncomfortable or something?" Chen Rui asked indirectly.
Yuki Chiba shot him a glance. "You're the one who's nervous! I'm genuinely happy."
"Is that so?" Chen Rui flattered her with a smile. Although Yuki Chiba did seem happier at the moment, he couldn't quite grasp where that happiness was coming from.
Watching Yuki Chiba joyfully indulge in her feast, Chen Rui found himself experiencing some unusual emotions.
In just a short time together today, their intimate proximity had stirred something within him that he couldn't quite understand.
"How about we go up the tower again after dinner?" Chen Rui suggested with a grin.
Yuki Chiba froze for a moment but then forced a smile, her lips curving upward. "Sure."
Seeing her like this made Chen Rui even happier. He reached out to pat her head but was swiftly swatted away.
"Don't treat me like your junior; you're not that much older than me," Yuki Chiba said irritably before returning to her meal.
"We can go see the night view. I don't want to play anymore; it loses its charm after too much," Chen Rui said, shaking the wine glass on the table. The wine inside swayed slightly, resembling the restless beating of a boy's heart.
"That works too. I was planning to play some more, but seeing you like this, I won't push you," Yuki Chiba chuckled. "You better repay me well."
Chen Rui pondered for a moment before suddenly standing up, leaning forward until his face was almost touching Yuki Chiba's cheek. With a mischievous grin, he asked, "So how do you want me to repay you?"
Yuki Chiba was taken aback for a moment, then quickly changed her demeanor, coldly sneering, "I didn't expect you to be this kind of person. So all men are the same, huh?"
Chen Rui sat back down, watching Yuki Chiba put on a pretentious expression, unable to hold back his laughter. This caused Yuki Chiba's face to flush bright red.
"What are you laughing at? What's so funny?" Yuki Chiba said with dissatisfaction, forcing herself to maintain her earlier haughty attitude.
"Nothing much, just wanted to laugh. You're too cute," Chen Rui accidentally revealed his true thoughts.
"You..." Yuki Chiba's face turned crimson with embarrassment. Ignoring Chen Rui, she buried her head back into her food.
Chen Rui propped his chin up with his right hand, quietly observing Yuki Chiba as she ate.
After a long while, Yuki Chiba finally lifted her head, ignoring Chen Rui's gaze. She stretched lazily, wiped her mouth, and said to Chen Rui, "Let's go."
Chen Rui smiled silently at the bit of sauce still clinging to Yuki Chiba's nose.
Yuki Chiba scrutinized Chen Rui and noticed that he had been staring at the area near her nose. She quickly grabbed a handkerchief and wiped it off. "So bad! You saw it and didn’t tell me."
Chen Rui felt wronged and chuckled bitterly, "You were just too beautiful; I got mesmerized."
"Of course! Don't you know who I am?" Yuki Chiba was pleased by the compliment and wrapped her arm around Chen Rui's, smiling sweetly.
Chen Rui sighed helplessly. "Weren't you just saying I was that kind of person? Why are you clinging to me now?"
"That kind of person? Do you even know what kind I mean? I mean the kind I like. Is that a problem?" Yuki Chiba argued stubbornly, giving Chen Rui no chance to find a loophole.
The two of them arrived at the Indoor Observation Deck, which was equivalent to the height of one hundred and thirty floors. The tower was one of the famous landmarks of Las Vegas and also its highest point, so the crowd at the observation deck could only be described as a sea of people, making it impossible to enjoy the night view from the edge.
“It’s all your fault for dragging your feet. Now look at how crowded it is; how are we supposed to see anything?” Yuki Chiba tugged at Chen Rui's arm, causing him to shiver in pain.
“Hey, don’t just pull on my skin like that; it really hurts,” Chen Rui complained, rubbing his now reddened arm.
“Well, you insisted on coming here. Now that we’re here, we can’t see anything. What should we do?” Yuki Chiba’s eyes were red, as if she might burst into tears at any moment.
Chen Rui felt speechless as well; he hadn’t expected such a large crowd. “Let’s just go back then and come again tomorrow.”
“What’s the point of that?” Yuki Chiba started to act playfully, making Chen Rui break into a sweat from anxiety.
“How about we come back tomorrow night?”
“Isn’t that just going to be the same?”
After thinking for a moment, Chen Rui squatted down and patted his shoulders, signaling for Yuki Chiba to hop on. Fortunately, she was wearing sports pants today; otherwise, he wouldn’t have resorted to this method.
Yuki Chiba hesitated for a while but ultimately didn’t agree to Chen Rui’s suggestion. “Let’s just wait a bit. We can come when the crowd thins out.”
“Alright, you decide.”
Time passed slowly, and there were fewer tourists than when night first fell. Chen Rui helped Yuki Chiba to the floor-to-ceiling window, where they looked down at the gambling city: Las Vegas.
Las Vegas, the city of sin, the entertainment capital, with dazzling lights shining like stars. The luxury hotels along Las Vegas Boulevard boldly showcased an unparalleled night scene and prosperity.
“It’s beautiful,” Chen Rui couldn’t help but exclaim.
Yuki Chiba smiled, "Right? I should have come to see you."
Chen Rui felt helpless against this girl, so he decided not to argue with her.
"You seem a bit different today," Chen Rui said lightly.
Yuki Chiba looked at Chen Rui. "You've only seen me for less than thirty-six hours in total. How much do you think you really know about me?"
Chen Rui gazed at Yuki Chiba, forcing a smile. "I don't know how well I know you. I probably don't even know your obvious traits, so how could I guess your hidden ones?"
"I—" Yuki Chiba was about to speak proudly but was interrupted by Chen Rui.
"But don’t think you know me that well either. What you understand isn’t me; it’s him. I’m not him, and you need to be clear about that, Yuki Chiba. No, it should be Sister Li Xue." Chen Rui sighed, finally voicing something he had kept hidden.
"You’re still as clever as ever," Li Xue said with a light laugh.
Chen Rui shook his head. "It's not that I'm clever; it's just too obvious. Anyone normal could see it."
Li Xue grinned mischievously. "That statement might insult quite a few people."
"Really?" Chen Rui sniffed. "Let’s get down to business. The other side of this dream must be you all, right? So what’s your purpose? Where are the others, and what are they doing?"
"You’re still so unamusing, always thinking about work," Li Xue pouted. "I don’t know."
"Don’t know?" Chen Rui considered many possible responses from her—some playful, some threatening with a smirk, and some gentle and straightforward. Although the likelihood of those possibilities was negligible, he truly hadn’t expected Li Xue to respond in such a formal tone: "I don’t know."
Li Xue smiled. "This is also what they anticipated. I really don’t know anything; I’m just here for fun. I neither participated in writing the script nor understood the specifics; I just came to find you."
Chen Rui pressed his forehead, feeling a bit of a headache. He had hoped to gather at least some information, even if it was useless; at the very least, he could eliminate some possibilities. However, the other party was too thorough, and he had managed to extract nothing.
He looked directly at Li Xue and said seriously, "I am not your boyfriend Chen Zijing. I am Chen Rui, not that warrior. I am just a State-Owned Enterprise Employee, an ordinary White-Collar Worker."
"No, you are him, absolutely." Li Xue replied quietly. "You are so similar to him, from your appearance to your heart; it's all exactly the same."
Chen Rui felt helpless against her. At this point, he couldn't just ignore her.
"Since that's the case, you will come back to the office with me." Chen Rui decided to tie her close to him to ensure that no secrets would be leaked.
"Aren't you afraid I will go snooping for information?" Li Xue asked with wide eyes and a mischievous smile.
"I'm afraid any useful information was already sent away last night. There's nothing of value left, and I will be watching you at all times," Chen Rui sighed helplessly.
"Okay." Li Xue nodded happily, her beautiful face making Chen Rui feel somewhat enchanted.
"Then let's go now." Chen Rui adjusted his clothes and addressed Li Xue.
"No, let's go back tomorrow. Let today have a beautiful ending," Li Xue said as she gazed out at the brightly lit Las Vegas Boulevard. The stunning night view paired with her beautiful silhouette was simply breathtaking.
Chen Rui suddenly recalled Li Xue in the cinema; she looked strikingly similar and remarkably calm.
He understood: Today One, she truly seemed happy. Even when riding the Crazy Wheel, she was no exception because when Chen Rui was happy, she would be happy too.
This girl was so gentle and considerate that Chen Rui couldn't bear to forcibly shatter her dream—a beautiful dream tinged with sadness.
Chen Rui slowly walked over to Li Xue and wrapped his arm around her waist. This was the first time he had taken the initiative since Today One.
"Today, I am Chen Zijing," Chen Rui whispered softly in Li Xue's ear.
Li Xue looked at Chen Rui, her eyes red. She gently rose on her tiptoes, trying to get a little closer to his face...
Chen Rui lowered his head, meeting Li Xue.
It wasn't eternal or fleeting like a dragonfly's touch; it was just an ordinary, very ordinary kiss.
Li Xue rested her head against Chen Rui's chest. Even with her eyes closed, she couldn't stop the tears from falling.
"Welcome back," Li Xue said, her voice tinged with sobs, but more filled with joy.
"Yeah, I'm back."
"You idiot, you took too long."
"Oh? Then thank you for waiting." Ten apologies couldn't compare to a single thank you that warmed the heart; Chen Rui suddenly recalled this saying.
"Yes, you should really thank me."
"That's too much; let's take it slow."
