"Care?"
"Though it's hard to believe, it's true. He is temporarily serving as the assistant leader of this Action Team, which is why he's here," Chen Rui explained with a smile that seemed a bit forced yet more genuine, making Elephant General and the others feel compelled to believe him.
Li Xue pouted and pushed Chen Rui away. "You make it sound like I'm some child entrusted to your care."
Isn't that the case? Chen Rui and the six others exchanged glances, all thinking the same thing in response to Li Xue's words. At that moment, she truly looked like a spoiled rich girl who had thrown a tantrum and run away from home, completely out of place in this environment.
"Alright, let's get to business. What do you need me for?" Chen Rui said hurriedly, noticing Li Xue's doubtful gaze on him.
Elephant General glanced at Big Dog, who immediately recalled the original purpose of their visit. He began to explain, "It's not that we want to do anything in particular; we just want to know if you have any information about the background of this so-called simulated war. If we can know in advance, we can prepare ourselves."
"Oh? You want to use me as a backdoor?" Chen Rui quickly understood their purpose for coming. They simply wanted to gather as much insider information as possible to gain an advantage in the final competition.
"That could be one way to put it. However, I think you should know something too, after all..." Big Dog didn't hide anything and openly admitted their intentions, which surprised Chen Rui a bit.
Chen Rui chuckled lightly. "After all what? Even if I wanted to share useful information with you, I wouldn't have any way to do so..."
Lion Brother shook his head. "It doesn't matter; we weren't holding out too much hope anyway. After all, rules are rules." Despite his eloquent words, Lion Brother's expression was still grim, clearly disappointed in Chen Rui.
"I think you've misunderstood," Chen Rui said as he climbed onto the desk, feeling helpless. "Even if I wanted to tell you about the information, I don't know anything at all!"
This statement genuinely shocked Elephant General and the others because through Big Dog and White Wolf's calculations, they believed there was over a ninety percent chance that Chen Rui and his team knew about this Virtual War. At the very least, they should have some understanding of the situation. But Chen Rui didn't seem like he was deceiving them at that moment.
"How is that possible?" Big Dog instinctively retorted in surprise because he firmly believed that Chen Rui knew everything; after all, matters concerning dreams had deeply affected him.
Chen Rui turned his head and looked directly at Big Dog. "Then why do you think I would know the background of the Virtual War? I'm definitely not a researcher; you know that."
The large dog nodded, "I know that, but because the amount of data in the dream is so vast, it should be a virtual world formed by the internal operations of your computer. So this data should have been in your computer long ago. Don't you know this?"
Chen Rui was taken aback for a moment, then burst into laughter. He realized that the large dog had misunderstood due to a lack of information, leading to an easy but incorrect conclusion. "Wrong! Completely wrong!"
"Wrong?"
"Indeed, the amount of data in the Dream World is enormous. Our computers here simply cannot store such a vast amount of data, let alone run it. All the computers here are merely reflecting results derived from that Main Computer." Chen Rui did not directly mention the concept of Dual Machine because these individuals were not true clients in the conventional sense. He was also unsure of what consequences might arise from casually spreading such information, so he chose to remain cautious.
"Then? Are other Action Teams the same?" The large dog asked in astonishment, as he had already begun to vaguely guess Chen Rui's meaning and wanted to confirm further.
Chen Rui slowly nodded. Although he had a bad feeling about it, he had no reason to lie on this matter since it could easily be verified by higher-ups.
The large dog swallowed hard and asked excitedly, "Does that mean all Action Teams like yours around the world are like this?"
This time, Chen Rui genuinely hesitated to answer that question. Fortunately, the large dog did not press further and seemed to have guessed something already. "So, all Action Teams in the world are linked to a central Main Computer? Those Dream Worlds are all created by one computer?"
White Wolf awkwardly patted the large dog beside him, looking somewhat helpless at his brother's manic excitement. "How could that be possible? How could there be such a powerful computer with such strong computational ability in the world? Unless..."
"Exactly! It’s—quantum computers!!!"
That's not mine... Chen Rui thought bitterly as he looked at the large dog, trying to comfort himself.
"Alright, since you already know that I don't have any information regarding the so-called Virtual War, please go back now. It's still flying; it's not safe for you to be here like this." Chen Rui sighed and looked at Elephant General, who was signaling them to leave.
"I'm truly sorry," Elephant General said with a slight bow, shooting a glare at the large dog and White Wolf before leading them toward the rear of the Cabin.
Chen Rui slumped in his chair, suddenly remembering something. He quickly straightened up and looked to the right.
Li Xue was grinning at Chen Rui, her left hand lightly covering her lips, a knowing smile on her face as if she had discovered some great secret of his.
This is troublesome; she shouldn't know about this. It would undoubtedly put her in a difficult position, making it hard for her to distance herself from the situation. Even though she had a very impressive older brother and was a major shareholder in Dawn Heavy Industries...
"Why the sigh?" Li Xue suddenly lunged at Chen Rui, grabbing his cheeks and forcing a stiff smile onto his face. "I already knew about your little secrets. After all, I'm a Third-Level Dream Realm Member! Stop sighing so much; it makes you look old. You need to smile more to stay youthful."
Chen Rui forced a bitter smile and playfully pinched Li Xue's nose. "So you still look like a college student, huh? Ahh, I'm so jealous! I really do look like a middle-aged man facing a crisis! The difference is just too much."
"Hahaha! Who told you to keep sighing? Is there really something bothering you?" Li Xue teased as she rubbed Chen Rui's cheeks, but he didn't feel any pain. He noticed that she had trimmed her beautiful nails very short.
Chen Rui closed his eyes and thought for a moment before shaking his head. "It seems I really don't have anything to be unhappy about; maybe I've just gotten used to sighing."
Li Xue withdrew her hands and nestled against Chen Rui's chest. Though she wasn't short, she was very light, curling up into a little ball. "That habit isn't good! You need to change it. Life is short; you must do things that make you happy. Living like this will only lead to regrets!"
Chen Rui didn't respond, allowing her to lecture him on various life philosophies while he secretly wanted to laugh: how can I take life advice from someone who looks like a 'college student' when I'm an 'uncle facing a midlife crisis'? Do you think I can take you seriously?
Flying was truly relaxing in the real sense, but this kind of relaxation was unprecedented. Usually, when these crew members boarded a plane, it was for a mission, so they immediately entered work mode without thinking about rest.
Now that the plane was about to land, they began to complain. Although everyone knew they wouldn't start working immediately, the ten-hour flight hadn't left them feeling relaxed or happy. At this moment, seeing their fresh-faced leader made them unable to suppress their frustration, and they couldn't help but vent their complaints to Chen Rui.
Chen Rui had indeed rested well; Li Xue fell asleep in his arms shortly after settling in. After adjusting his seat to a comfortable angle, he too unknowingly drifted off until Qiaoqin, playing the role of Cabin Crew, woke him up to check on everyone as the plane prepared for descent.
The landing was extremely bumpy, unlike any normal landing; perhaps it was simply an airport unsuitable for commercial flights.
This was a makeshift military airport, built specifically for the Special Forces Competition. Among all the military aircraft parked here, Chen Rui's plane stood out as the only civilian passenger aircraft, an unusual sight amidst the military jets.
Fan Yu and the others were the first to descend the boarding ladder. A Major Officer in American Military Dress Uniform greeted them and took charge of their group of seven, but no one came forward to welcome Chen Rui and his companions.
Left standing at the airport, they hesitated to leave without orders; after all, they were on foreign soil.
Before long, a black Mercedes sped toward the airport, followed by two large buses clearly meant to transport Chen Rui and his group.
The Black Mercedes did not come to a proper stop in front of them; instead, it executed a stylish drift that sent dust flying into the faces of nearly a hundred people, an uncharacteristic display for foreign diplomats.
"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and get in!" A familiar voice called from the back seat of the Mercedes. Zhang Jun, wearing black-framed glasses, appeared to be a passenger in the vehicle.
"You... what are you doing here?" Chen Rui asked awkwardly.
Zhang Jun frowned slightly. "Why can't I be here? As the person in charge of the Virtual War project, isn't it my duty to come and check things out?"
"What... person in charge?"
Chen Rui doubted he had heard correctly. He had assumed that each country would send its own Dream Execution Team to operate within the dream realm to prevent cheating. But from what Zhang Jun was saying, it seemed that was not the case.
"It's you. The entire Virtual War project is under your A Group's responsibility. I'm just a temporary Supervisor sent from above," Zhang Jun said with a mischievous smile.
