Li Li shot an annoyed glance at Chen Rui, noticing that he had changed back into his casual attire. Unable to resist, she teased him.
"Hey, can't our great Boss Chen stay at the company a little longer? How about chatting with me?"
Chen Rui smiled nonchalantly and walked over to sit in the front row. The other twenty-eight people quickly left the VIP Conference Room under Li Li's watchful gaze, allowing the two of them to talk freely.
Li Li approached the podium, leaning against it as she smiled at Chen Rui and asked, "Why did you vote in favor?"
Chen Rui replied with a blank expression, "Don't you know?"
Li Li paused for a moment before realizing and let out a self-deprecating smile.
"You don't want to play the bad cop, so you leave it to me? Great, now you've played the good guy while my relatives have probably sent those people countless curses."
Chen Rui rolled his eyes at Li Li and lightly mocked her, "Whose fault is that? If you had brought her back sooner, would this have happened? You're her brother; can't you handle something like this?"
Li Li was infuriated by Chen Rui's words and shouted at him, her future brother-in-law who was doing nothing.
"Of course I can handle it! But even if I could bring her back, who could keep her here? What do you want me to do? House arrest her?!"
After venting her frustration, Li Li glanced at Chen Rui and noticed that he seemed unfazed, which only made her more upset.
"What kind of attitude is this?! Shouldn't you be the one taking action?"
Listening to Li Li's continuous complaints, Chen Rui finally lost his temper. He slammed his hand on the table, releasing all the pent-up anger he had accumulated over time. He pointed at Li Li and began to scold her directly.
"Damn it! Don't you think I want to? Can you understand how I feel? If you don't know, then stop talking nonsense! Is Li Xue not equally important to both you and me? Do you really think I can have the courage to continue with that plan after seeing her again?!"
After being scolded by Chen Rui, Li Li became calm, knowing that for Chen Rui, just being able to stand in front of him at this moment was already a significant achievement.
"Why didn't you stop me?"
Chen Rui's sudden question left Li Li feeling a surge of emotions.
"Isn't it because I wanted you to see her a few more times?"
"This shouldn't have happened." Chen Rui sat down weakly, staring blankly ahead with vacant eyes.
"Blame me, fine." Li Li sighed helplessly, looking up at the starry ceiling of the VIP Conference Room with a bitter smile.
"Let nature take its course; after all, we still have time."
"But overall, time is running out. We need to bring her back and start the plan as soon as possible." Chen Rui stood up solemnly, forcing himself to walk toward the exit of the conference room.
Li Li seemed not to notice and muttered to himself.
"Are you sure that when you see her again, you'll be able to give her up?"
"I have to, even if I can't. At this point, there are no better options left." Chen Rui turned his head and forced a bitter smile. "After all, I can no longer consider myself a person."
Li Li said nothing, quietly watching Chen Rui leave.
As Chen Rui reached the door and paused while pulling it open, he let out a low, bitter laugh.
"I still don't know where she is."
Li Li said with a hint of sadness, "Shouldn't you be asking someone else about these things?"
Chen Rui paused for a moment, then turned back to Li Li with a smile that looked more painful than crying.
"Yeah, I shouldn't be asking anyone else."
The biological computer and Kiribati's quantum computer complemented each other, so their connection had never been severed. This meant that Chen Rui could always use the highest privileges of the quantum computer to do certain things.
In this era, although people seemed to have much more freedom, surveillance and identity verification were everywhere. Personal movements and other confidential information were directly stored in the central data control of various governments, and this data was practically transparent to the quantum computer.
Chen Rui squinted slightly as a massive amount of data flooded into his mind. However, he showed no signs of discomfort, as if he had long since adapted to this sensation.
In less than a second, he quickly searched through the vast data for Li Xue's personal information, checking entry and exit records and local traffic data. When he opened his eyes again, it indicated that he had determined Li Xue's approximate location.
With a hint of sadness, Chen Rui sighed and pulled open the door, leaving in haste. Li Li watched Chen Rui's departing figure with a bewildered expression.
"What are we really doing this for?"
After leaving Dawn Headquarters, Chen Rui took a taxi home because he had seen Li Xue in the surveillance footage there, and up until just now, she had not come out.
He hurried upstairs and as he entered his home, he unexpectedly ran into Li Xue, who was busy packing her things.
Li Xue was clearly startled by Chen Rui's sudden appearance. After recognizing him, she said lightly, "I'm just here to pack my things; you don't need to worry about me."
Chen Rui smiled faintly. It was surprising that the usually indifferent older sister would care about some belongings left behind or perhaps it was the place itself that mattered to her.
"Is that so?"
Li Li quickened her pace, hastily tossing her belongings into the suitcase. After stuffing it full, she grabbed the handle and headed for the door, but Chen Rui's body was blocking the way, preventing Li Xue from leaving.
"Move aside."
Li Xue said calmly, her expression blank as she looked at Chen Rui.
Chen Rui stared at Li Xue for a long moment. After a sigh, he prepared to step aside. However, he noticed Li Xue's lips twitch slightly and halted his movement.
Li Xue realized that Chen Rui still hadn’t moved and her tone grew anxious. "Please, just move!"
But Chen Rui suddenly wrapped his arms around Li Xue, burying her head in his chest.
Li Xue didn’t resist; tears streamed down her cheeks as she cursed, "You idiot! You don’t hold me when you should, and you won’t let me go when I need to leave. Are you trying to drive me crazy? I finally made up my mind to leave, and you—"
"I'm here to take you home."
Chen Rui replied softly.
"Which home? Where can we go back to now? Where can you stay?"
"This is it! My home."
Chen Rui smiled slightly, looking at Li Xue's tear-streaked face. He playfully tapped her nose. "Our home."
The sun slowly set in the west, its afterglow streaming through the glass window and illuminating the room. A gentle breeze stirred the paper documents on the tea table, and the six bold characters of "Dream World Project" seemed to be embossed in gold. This paper document appeared to have been forgotten, left behind in this place. (The End
