Chapter 149: Allies
After half an hour of fierce fighting, all the Night Owl Beasts lay powerless on the ground.
Commander Wei, seeing that the Night Owl Beasts had been defeated, rode slowly towards Ji Zichen with a smile on his face. "You have impressive skills, young hero. Thanks to you, we were able to kill the Night Owl Leader with minimal casualties. I am Wei Ye, the commander of Qingyang City."
"Great achievement? That's quite a name," Ji Zichen thought to himself, though he only said, "I didn't do much, Commander Wei. It was just a stroke of luck. My name is Ji Zichen, and this is Lin Chuyu."
Wei Ye glanced at Lin Chuyu and laughed heartily. "Even luck requires real skill. You are the best user of magical artifacts I have ever seen. Now come back to the city with me; I would like to treat you both well."
Ji Zichen exchanged glances with Lin Chuyu before nodding. "Sure, I actually have some matters to attend to in Qingyang City, and I might need your help, Commander Wei."
Wei Ye smiled slightly. "If Mr. Ji has any requests, feel free to ask. I will do my utmost to assist you."
Wei Ye signaled for his soldiers to regroup and head back to the city. On the way, Ji Zichen asked, "What kind of Demon Beasts were those?"
Wei Ye chuckled lightly, though his smile carried a hint of fatigue mixed with satisfaction. "To be honest, we don't know what these Demon Beasts are either. They resemble Night Owls, so we call them Night Owl Beasts. We have no idea where they came from; perhaps they were drawn here by the scent of decay due to the recent deaths. Fortunately, we dealt with them." At this point, Wei Ye's expression suddenly turned serious. "However, we will continue to scout the area; we cannot let those Night Owl Beasts return."
Wei Ye studied Ji Zichen closely and noticed his extraordinary demeanor. The Five Elements Pearl on his wrist emitted a faint glow—such magical artifacts are rare indeed. Wei Ye also spotted the Vajra hanging from Lin Chuyu's waist; it too appeared to be no ordinary item.
Curious, Wei Ye asked, "Is this your first time in the Desolate Central Plain, Mr. Ji?"
Ji Zichen smiled slightly. "No, I've been here a few times before, but it wasn't like this during my last visit."
Wei Ye sighed. "No one expected such events to unfold."
Although the soldiers behind them hadn't spoken directly to Ji Zichen, many displayed an inexplicable respect towards him. A person's true abilities often reveal themselves in critical situations, and all the soldiers had witnessed Ji Zichen's prowess in defeating the leader of the Night Owl Beasts.
Wei Ye's gaze was sharp and discerning. He could see that Ji Zichen possessed a unique aura, one that was not typical of an ordinary wealthy heir. Facing off against the massive Demon Beast known as the Night Owl Beast, Ji Zichen remained remarkably composed, leading Wei Ye to suspect that he must have had considerable experience dealing with such creatures.
But who would have experience with Demon Beasts? A possibility crossed Wei Ye's mind, and he asked, "You handled that Great Night Owl so calmly; it seems you must have dealt with Demon Beasts before. Are you perhaps a member of the Divine Alliance Under the Covenant?"
Ji Zichen was taken aback by Wei Ye's insight. "How did you guess that?" he replied.
Wei Ye smiled slightly. "So I guessed correctly?"
Ji Zichen chuckled wryly. "You're half right; I'm no longer part of the Divine Alliance Under the Covenant."
Wei Ye was puzzled and about to inquire further when suddenly both of them were enveloped in a shadow. They looked up simultaneously to see a squadron of flying riders passing overhead.
The riders flew in a dense formation, causing Lin Chuyu to feel a chill run down her spine. "Brother Ji..." she exclaimed.
The flying riders circled above them several times before heading toward Qingyang City. The horses beneath them whinnied restlessly but showed no signs of wanting to flee.
These riders had enormous wings, their heads resembling those of moths, and their forelimbs were covered in scales with sharp claws.
"It's the Black King Moth," Ji Zichen suddenly declared, his extensive knowledge shining through.
Seeing Ji Zichen recognize them reassured Lin Chuyu; if Kiko knew how to deal with the Black King Moths, then perhaps they posed no threat. Her tense expression relaxed immediately.
Wei Ye looked at Ji Zichen in surprise. " Mr. Ji, impressive! Listening to their flight, they are both fast and stable. I’ve never experienced this; it seems allies from Mingxin Valley have arrived."
Ji Zichen felt a flicker of joy in his heart. The fact that Prince Huixin accepted these Black King Moths indicated that he was open to assistance from other races. "To deal with the Arbitrator, though, these Black King Moths alone won't be enough," Ji Zichen remarked.
Wei Ye glanced at Ji Zichen and said, "Yes, it’s certainly not enough to deal with the Arbitrator, but I believe others will join us, and we will form a great army against the Arbitrator."
Ji Zichen had no doubt about Prince Huixin's charisma. In the current situation, there was no other path to take against their common enemies. Ji Zichen replied, "We will succeed."
Wei Ye opened his eyes and looked at Ji Zichen. "We?"
Ji Zichen smiled and said, "I would like to meet Prince Huixin. I wonder if Commander Wei could introduce me?"
Wei Ye immediately became excited. " Mr. Ji is representing The Divine Alliance Under the Covenant?" The Divine Alliance Under the Covenant was the center for magical artifacts; having their assistance would be like adding wings to a tiger.
Ji Zichen replied, "Commander Wei, I am no longer a member of The Divine Alliance Under the Covenant."
Wei Ye appeared somewhat disappointed. After a moment, he asked, "An introduction is possible, but what do you want to see the prince for?"
Ji Zichen said, "Collaboration. Our goals are aligned, Commander Wei. We both want to deal with the Arbitrator."
After pondering for a while, Wei Ye responded to Ji Zichen, "Alright, I will take you to meet the prince."
Fortunately, although the Hall of Malevolence had suffered a defeat, they did not organize their forces to attack again. The soldiers in Qingyang City felt this was a good omen. However, Prince Huixin and Wei Ye did not share this optimism; they knew that during this period of calm, the Arbitrator would not be idle and would seize every moment to plot and scheme.

As Ji Zichen left the village for Qingyang City, news of her attempts at unification reached the Saint King’s ears. Such actions caused displeasure in the Saint King’s heart. However, perspectives on matters varied greatly; not every human harbored immense greed. Although the Saint King was not Gu Diao, having lived alongside Gu Diao for so long made him feel responsible for ensuring the survival of the Guzhao Clan without any mistakes.
"Are we really going to unite with humans? I can’t shake the feeling that something is off," Zang Da said as he walked toward the Saint King's residence with Black Thunder by his side.
Black Thunder turned to Zang Da and said, "Zang Da, I feel that you and Saint King have been getting too close to humans lately. That Ji Zichen saved you, and I know there are good and bad people among them, but there aren't many good ones, are there?"
Zang Da understood Black Thunder's meaning and replied, "Saint King believes that many things in this world are destined. Perhaps it’s not that we are getting too close to humans, but that fate has led us to do so."
Black Thunder scoffed, "Fate? What is fate? We Gu Diao have never believed in human notions. Your words are starting to sound more and more like theirs."
"I'll tell you, cooperating with humans is incredibly foolish," Black Thunder shouted. "We should rely on ourselves. For so many years, we've lived well without depending on humans. Although these are extraordinary times, we can still rely on ourselves."
"I'm not saying we must depend on humans," Zang Da replied. "But sometimes we might need assistance."
"Assistance? Must it come from humans? I think Azure Serpent is more reliable than humans. Joining forces with them is like walking into a trap. Those humans will not only kill us but will also steal the pearls from our grain. Trust me, Zang Da, just watch; if we cooperate with humans, that day will come soon enough."
Zang Da was clearly more rational than Black Thunder. He said, "Humans may not be the oldest race, but the knowledge they possess is something we can never learn."
"Most of us were killed by them before we even started learning," Black Thunder insisted stubbornly.
Zang Da glanced at Black Thunder and spoke in a gentle tone, "Let’s listen to Saint King. You may not trust humans, but you should at least trust Saint King."
Black Thunder did not respond immediately. After a moment, he said, "I trust Saint King."

"Well done!" Wei Ye returned to the city and recounted the situation regarding the resolved Night Owl Beast to Prince Huixin. With an appreciative tone, Prince Huixin said to Wei Ye, "You did very well this time; I knew you wouldn't let me down. However, we need to send out more patrols. I don’t want any incidents with Demon Beasts harming anyone near Qingyang City."
Wei Ye replied, "Yes, Your Highness. I will increase the number of patrols."
Prince Huixin placed the repair map of Qingyang City on the table, withdrawing his gaze before fixing it on Wei Ye. "Have you settled the allies from Mingxin Valley?" he asked.
"They are settled, Your Highness. You can meet them at any time," Wei Ye replied.
Prince Huixin's eyes sparkled with excitement. "I believe we can defeat the Arbitrator. As long as more allies arrive, you should arrange a banquet tonight to properly welcome them."
"Understood," Wei Ye said, stepping forward and bowing. "Your Highness, I would like you to meet someone."
"Meet someone? Who?" This was the first time Wei Ye had introduced anyone in front of Prince Huixin, and curiosity piqued his interest.
"This person is named Ji Zichen. He was quite helpful during the hunt for the Demon Beast," Wei Ye explained.
" Ji Zichen?" Prince Huixin pondered for a moment. Initially, he couldn't recall who Ji Zichen was. " Ji Zichen? That name sounds familiar; I feel like I've heard it somewhere."
Wei Ye was surprised. "Your Highness has heard of him?"
Prince Huixin paused for a moment before shaking his head. "It sounds familiar, but I can't quite place it."
It was understandable that Prince Huixin couldn't remember, as he had only met Ji Zichen once. Although they had clashed in that alley, it was merely a fleeting episode in his life, and given how much time had passed, it was reasonable that he couldn't recall it immediately.
After weighing his thoughts, Prince Huixin said, "Let's hold off on introducing this friend of yours for now; after all, the allies from Mingxin Valley are the priority at this moment."
Wei Ye understood the importance of timing. "I understand. It won't be too late to introduce him after we've met with the people from Mingxin Valley."
