This is a serious matter!
Black Director never expected that Peter's reason for refusing to capture criminals was that he was afraid of being set up, or rather, afraid of losing money!
"I'm not going! Whoever wants to go can go; I'm definitely not going!" Although Peter felt a bit tempted by Chen Fan's words, there’s an old saying.
Everyone makes mistakes, even horses stumble.
If you walk by the river for too long, you're bound to get your shoes wet. Peter, despite his arrogance, understood that it was impossible to catch every criminal 100% of the time—
"I can't do it!"
Peter never wanted to join S.H.I.E.L.D. in the first place, but after being exposed and facing hefty compensation fees, he realized that not joining would mean he couldn't afford a house or even sell blood.
After being publicly slapped in the face by his subordinate, Black Director was somewhat annoyed. The security situation in New York was problematic, and the higher-ups had been nagging him about it. Reluctantly, he decided to send Peter out to boost his presence.
However, he didn't anticipate how things would turn out.
So everyone turned their gaze toward the boy holding a brick.
Ignoring the crowd's attention, Chen Fan looked at Peter with surprise. This guy's intelligence hadn't suddenly spiked; it had always been online. So Chen Fan wondered who had given him this cheat code?
"Who's paying for the insurance?" Even while trying to ignore it, Chen Fan could still feel the stares on him. He turned his head slightly; being watched by a group of big men and old ladies felt strange.
"I'll pay!" Nick Fury gritted his teeth.
"What if they don’t pay? Or if they delay?" Chen Fan asked. This was an important question; behind every insurance company stood a powerful figure.
"I'll go and demand it!" His face darkened even further.
"Fine! I don't care anymore; after all, Katie isn't just mine!" Chen Fan shrugged indifferently. If the only one damaging Katy Group's property was some minor character, he wouldn't be interested in seeking compensation.
If there was anyone to blame, it had to be Peter's immense fame; the name Spider-Man was known by everyone!
At this point, Black Director let out a sigh of relief and looked at Peter, saying, "So this is settled then!"
Peter nodded. A Spider-Man who didn't care about breaking things while capturing criminals was the real deal; otherwise, if he had to worry about not causing damage during a chase, he would never want that kind of scenario.
"Get ready to take a break and then immediately start on your tasks!" Black Director said seriously as he patted Peter on the shoulder, letting out a light sigh. "The Sandman you didn't catch last time robbed an armored truck yesterday and made off with ten million dollars!"
Hearing such unexpected news, Peter's expression changed dramatically. If it weren't for that Sandman, how could he have ended up with a debt of three hundred thousand dollars and reluctantly joined S.H.I.E.L.D., losing his freedom in the process?
"Don't worry; this time I will catch him for sure!" Peter gritted his teeth. He harbored deep hatred for Sandman and wasn't planning to just capture him and hand him over to the police this time.
That wouldn't resolve his inner turmoil!
"Black Uncle is running out of money again!" Chen Fan pointed at the amount on the screen that was about to disappear.
"Three billion! Transfer another three billion!" Nick Fury waved his hand, sending another three billion dollars into the stock market. However, the few people holding documents nearby exchanged strange glances.
Three billion? What on earth is that?
The screen faced away from everyone; they would have to go around Black Director to see it. Although they were curious about what their director and Chen Fan were up to, their current task took precedence. After handing back the folder, they excused themselves.
Among the three, only Peter showed an excited expression; it was finally time for Spider-Man to make his entrance again.
"What's your mission, Coach?" Peter asked curiously, his excitement bubbling up as the hormones of Big Boy began to surge again.
"The Director has assigned me to be a secretary for some Playboy," Natasha replied calmly.
Is it the kind of secretary who is only called upon when needed? Peter blinked, his eyes glinting with a peculiar light. He dared not voice this thought; otherwise, the old lady would give him a lesson he would never forget.
After finally returning to his handsome face, it would be a sad thing to revert back again.
The three of them exited the restaurant, and as they passed the cafeteria, a familiar figure approached—the head chef of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s cafeteria, Chef Cage!
"Hey! Coulson and Natasha are back! Why aren't you out monitoring that monster?" Chef Cage asked curiously, his gaze suddenly shifting to Peter. He scratched his head and said, "Is this a new employee? He looks a bit familiar!"
"Hello, I'm Kitch, the head chef here. Whenever you come by, just let me know what you want to eat; consider it a treat for the newcomer!" Chef Cage said enthusiastically, patting Peter on the shoulder while mumbling, "Do you have any special abilities?"
Coulson and Natasha exchanged strange glances at Kitch. How could things have changed so much in S.H.I.E.L.D. since they last returned?
"I do!" Peter replied with a smile, rubbing his face.
It seemed that without the bluish-purple skin tone, some familiar faces no longer recognized him.
Wow! Does this count as a fresh start?
Wow! There really is something! Chef Cage showed an even warmer smile. "Are you interested in cooking, brother?"
Cooking? Peter was definitely interested. The aroma of Chen Fan's fried rice and the dishes prepared by the chef at the Island Nation restaurant he passed by last time still lingered in his memory.
Seeing Peter nod, Chef Cage was instantly filled with joy.
With special abilities and an interest in cooking, it was obvious that Kitch was telling himself: "Come on, pull me into this adventure and let's wander through the journey of food together!"
“Hey, let’s step aside and talk about some culinary matters while I let you taste a few new dishes I’ve developed!” Kitch said, pulling Peter toward a nearby cafeteria. However, he was stopped by Natasha, who coldly remarked, “Kitch, what are you thinking? Peter still has a mission to complete!”
“Peter? Spider-Man? That guy who often ends up with a black eye? The one who lounges around the cafeteria eating and drinking?” After a moment of surprise, Kitch released Peter's hand and scrutinized him closely. Realizing that he indeed resembled the foolish Peter he remembered, he pointed at Peter, who had returned to his normal appearance, and asked, “Are you Peter Parker? The Spider-Man?”
After being subjected to Kitch's teasing and sarcasm, Peter's expression was quite something. Am I really that foolish? Lounging around the cafeteria? Who the heck is this guy?
“He is Peter!” Coulson interjected, looking at the utterly unfamiliar Chef Kitch with confusion. He couldn’t understand if this guy had lost his mind.
“Never mind! I mistook you for someone else!” Kitch's expression changed abruptly, his previously enthusiastic demeanor cooling down instantly.
Everyone in America—well, almost everyone in the world—knew what Spider-Man could do.
Shooting webs? It’s not like making cotton candy; what do you need me for?
Watching someone change their mood so quickly left Peter bewildered. Just moments ago, they seemed like good buddies, but now Kitch looked down on him with disdain and mockery. What kind of lunatic or joker is this?
From across the window, Chen Fan curiously observed the scene in the hallway. He had been wondering when Kitch and Peter had become so close, but to his surprise, things took a turn in an instant.
Seeing Kitch's expression as if he had swallowed a fly and the strange looks on the faces of others made Chen Fan feel puzzled. Just as he was about to step outside to check it out, the group gathered in the hallway dispersed unhappily.
