New York is a vast city, world-renowned and the center of America. Most importantly, this city is a stage for the scenes of blockbuster movies.
Criminals and heroes stand side by side, monsters weave through the gaps, and if you step outside without the sound of sirens accompanying you, then you must have arrived in a fake New York.
"Shrine Maiden... don't stray too far from me!" The Tang siblings walked through the streets of New York, observing the bustling scenery, yet feeling no sense of novelty as foreign tourists.
If they had to discuss their feelings, both siblings were somewhat anxious, fearing that at any moment, they might meet their end in a foreign land.
"Wow! This is New York! So many fresh things!" The Shrine Maiden was thrilled. After collecting a hefty sum of one hundred thousand yen, she was ready to indulge in experiences that could only be dreamed of!
—I want to splurge!
"Wait!" Tang quickly pulled his sister along. This bodyguard was utterly unreliable, but for now, he had no choice but to rely on this money-hungry shrine maiden who even included divine services in her pricing.
Tang Xin'er hurriedly thought about the image of Chen Fan waving to summon Thundercloud; it was a scene she would remember for a lifetime.
As they walked, a robust figure caught her eye. Or rather, this figure attracted everyone's attention—not just hers; many on the street were drawn to it.
A barefoot man with a sturdy build wrapped in a large robe and sporting a scruffy beard exuded an undeniable presence. Wherever he stood, people found it hard to look away.
The charm of a mature man was on full display.
The man's brow furrowed, his expression cold, giving off an air that warned others to keep their distance. Even though tourists were curious, they halted and fell silent before his stance that seemed to say, "You insignificant ones, don’t come near me."
"Employers... don’t look at that god—uh, that person! Let’s go somewhere else!" The Shrine Maiden's expression changed slightly; her joyful demeanor vanished as she stepped closer to the Tang siblings and reached out to pull them away.
"Hmm? The aura of Divine Power?" The man's eyes brightened slightly. His previously dazed gaze sharpened as he focused on a red-and-white figure not far away. He pointed with an air of arrogance and said coldly, "You priest over there, come here! This God has something to ask you!"
The words spilling from the man's mouth left everyone bewildered; it was neither a language from any known country nor a mainstream tongue. It was obscure and difficult to comprehend, yet it carried an ancient charm.
"Is he calling you?" Tang glanced at the Shrine Maiden, following the direction of her finger. Prominently, right here, he shook his head in confusion. "Do you know that person? He seems to be calling you."
"Can you understand what he's saying?" The Shrine Maiden's mouth fell open, her astonishment evident on her face.
"I can't understand much, but I get the gist," Tang replied, somewhat dazed.
With Tang's answer, the Shrine Maiden joyfully patted her employer's shoulder. "You have quite the talent! Would you be interested in joining our Inugami King Organization? With your abilities, you could become a Miko in less than three years!"
"I’m a man! Do I need to prove it… Shrine Maiden!" A sudden darkness crossed Tang's dazed expression, and the corners of his mouth twitched slightly. "You serve the Poverty God, right?"
"Hehehe... The Poverty God is still a deity!" The Shrine Maiden chuckled, a slight blush appearing on her charming cheeks as she resolved an important matter in her mind.
When she returned, she would have her deity change its title. The Poverty God was truly something to be wary of; even recruiting was a challenge! How could they develop the Inugami King Organization like this?
At that moment, Thor, who had been waiting impatiently for a while, cast a cold glance over. Why was a priest acting oblivious in front of a true god?
Could it be that priests on Earth no longer believed in deities? But without faith in gods, how could there be any trace of Divine Power? That was a trait only an Archbishop-level priest could possess.
"Priest... can you not understand This God’s words?" Thor paused and looked at the unyielding Shrine Maiden before switching to English. "That female priest in the red and white robes over there, This God has something to ask you!"
Now everyone understood, but what did 'This God' mean? Was this some kind of movie where they were brought in as background characters?
"Brother, we should leave here quickly!" Tang Xin'er interjected from the side. Her fair face had turned wary; her instincts as a warrior told her that the man before them had an aura of something strange… or rather… something unusual!
"Your mission isn't complete yet; don't waste time here!"
"Yes, employer... we need to leave this place!" The Shrine Maiden nodded in agreement with Tang Xin'er. Why wasn't she responding to Thor?
That was because the moment she laid eyes on him, she understood that the owner of the artifact her deity had, well, retrieved, had arrived...
"Priest! Answer This God!" Thor stepped forward, already certain of one thing: the priest before him was ignoring his presence.
And she was doing so while fully aware of his identity!
"Why do you ignore This God? Has it been only a few hundred years that priests on Earth no longer believe in deities?" Thor's eyes gleamed with sharp intensity. Even though Divine Power was suppressed, his body remained that of a god, not something a mere priest could disregard.
As the first priest he encountered on Earth, he needed her assistance to find his lost artifact!
—Mjolnir!
"I am a Shrine Maiden, not the priest you speak of. Does Lord Thor of the Norse Pantheon understand?" The Shrine Maiden spoke expressionlessly and then tugged at her two employers beside her. "Let's go; this is not a place for fun!"
The onlookers watching the scene burst into applause, clapping enthusiastically. What a captivating performance! Such genuine expressions! But where were the director and cameraman? Why were there no cameras?
"A Shrine Maiden? A priest of the Island Nation?" Thor murmured, realizing why she was ignoring him; their divine affiliations were different and possibly even antagonistic.
Even so, what kind of courage did a mere priest have to act so brazenly before him?
"Shrine Maiden! Answer me one question! Otherwise, you will face the wrath of a god!" Tony was not about to let this Shrine Maiden go easily. A priest with Archbishop qualities must know quite a bit, especially about the whereabouts of his artifact.
"What strange phenomena have appeared on Earth recently? For example, incidents involving Thunderclouds!"
Tang Xin'er, being pulled along, pouted and replied without hesitation, "There are plenty... Tokyo in the Island Nation, above the Pacific, New York's airport, as well as Snow Peak in the Himalayas, and last night in Maple Town. It seems many places have had your phenomena occurring recently!"
Tang, increasingly excited, suddenly stopped speaking and said with frustration, "Sorry, I forgot you don't understand Chinese. Hey, sister, can you translate for him? We don't want him to keep bothering us!"
"Human... I can understand your language!" Tony shot a disdainful glance and coldly remarked, "Do you have anything that carries the thunderous hammer?"
"Uh... I..." The words that were just about to come out of Tang's mouth were instantly blocked by a delicate hand. Confused, he turned his gaze to see that it was Shrine Maiden covering his mouth.
"Lord Thor... we haven't seen any of your thunderous hammers!" Shrine Maiden blinked innocently, responding to Thor with a serious expression.
"Shrine Maiden, you're lying. Have you forgotten that as a priest serving the gods, you should know that the divine can discern lies?" Thor scoffed, finding her excuse pathetic.
It seemed that it had been a long time since any deity had descended to Earth, causing the priests of this world to forget the majesty and greatness of the divine.
"Damn it! Why didn't my useless companion tell me such an important thing!" Shrine Maiden couldn't help but complain, realizing that the gods could discern lies was a terrible setup!
How could she possibly deceive this Norse god now?
As Shrine Maiden furrowed her brow in worry, Thor, blocking her path, displayed a hint of irritation on his face—disgust, rejection, and a strong sense of taboo...
With a thunderous roar, a bolt of lightning tore through the sky, carrying an aura of destruction as it struck down from above, aimed directly at the muscular man.
The target was none other than Thor!
