Yu Tian really had some feelings for her, but when it came to facing Lin, all the words he had prepared vanished. Perhaps it was embarrassment; he could hear Lin's footsteps behind him as she shyly ran away.
He didn't even have a chance to say "thank you." But soon, he thought of something else, managed to balance his emotions, and shifted his focus to Hong.
She adjusted the driver's seat and sat down next to Hong. It seemed there were some things that were hard to say, and the two fell into silence for a while.
"Hong, what results did you find?" Yu Tian turned her attention to the screen, which displayed a lot of fluctuating data. The machine still left a deep impression in Yu Tian's memory.
"Captain, actually I should tell you something that I did without your permission... um..." Hong hesitated for a moment.
"It's fine. As long as it's not something bad, I won't blame you. Just go ahead!" Yu Tian was genuinely curious but needed to calm him down first.
Hong's initial embarrassment faded away. "That day we opened the magnetic field shield as you instructed, but many strange vines still penetrated through. We barely managed to break out using a nuclear bomb, and later... later, just to be safe, I launched an Antimatter Bomb at that hole..." Hong paused, and Yu Tian guessed the outcome.
At first, he felt a bit angry, but after thinking it over, his anger dissipated. After all, it was a last resort; life was the most important thing. He was still somewhat curious—since those monsters could come out and attack Wang Xiaofei, why didn't they emerge instead of hiding in the hole? The conditions outside were like a paradise!
"Let's just hope that thing wasn't destroyed!" He sighed softly after considering it further. Hong lowered his head; Yu Tian knew he must be feeling guilty since he had remained silent.
Yu Tian disliked silence. "Hong, let's go check that cave; the radiation should have dissipated by now."
"Alright!" Hong stood up and headed for the Subship Cabin.
Meanwhile, Yu Tian quietly walked to Lin's room.
Looking at Lin sleeping peacefully, Yu Tian smiled with relief. "Get a good night's sleep!"
He quietly stepped outside and closed the door behind him. Then he walked towards the Backup Cabin with Hong, who was waiting outside.
They arrived at the mysterious cave in their two-person spaceship.
From the outside, the cave looked pitch black, and the entrance appeared intact, showing no signs of the heavy blows it had once endured.
Yu Tian felt a deep sense of confusion, which Hong quickly noticed. "Captain, my research suggests that the gravity of this black hole seems to be generated by that machine. It must be protected by some mysterious force!"
Yu Tian understood what he meant.
"But what evidence do we have?"
"I found that during the explosion of the Antimatter Bomb, the Satellite data revealed some information from the other side of the black hole. I detected traces of life."
"Oh, then let's go in and take a look!" With that, he activated the spaceship, and Yu Tian settled into his seat.
The spaceship zipped into the cave entrance, and to their astonishment, the interior of the cave was in ruins despite its seemingly perfect exterior.
At a glance, it was filled with a grotesque mixture of animal flesh, dirt, and white bones—green, brown, and white all jumbled together in a nauseating sight.
Yu Tian felt his stomach churn violently, and he retched for quite a while.
Hong wasn't faring much better; his face turned pale, and his eyes shut tightly.
"Hong, this is your handiwork!" Yu Tian said with a laugh.
Hong turned his head away; he must have felt a bit embarrassed.
"Nothing much, I would still agree if I'm here," Hong said as he unfastened his seatbelt. Yu Tian also maneuvered the spaceship to hover in the air and brought it to a stop.
Yu Tian handed Hong a hoverboard and a spacesuit. Once they were suited up, they flew out, finding the hoverboard quite useful even in the strong gravitational pull of the black hole.
Yu Tian instructed Hong to fly in opposite directions, agreeing to notify each other if they discovered anything interesting.
As he soared on the hoverboard, Yu Tian glided above the thick, gooey substance. It was indeed a bit nauseating, but he closed his eyes and pushed through.
Suddenly, he heard Hong's voice calling out, "Captain, come over quickly! I've found something!"
Yu Tian hurriedly flew toward the sound.
Sure enough, Hong was next to that dark object. Yu Tian's heart raced with astonishment. "How did this thing survive such a powerful attack?"
He dismounted from the hoverboard and stepped into the substance, relieved it wasn't too deep as he exerted some effort to pull his foot back out.
"This is so disgusting!" Yu Tian cursed.
Hong whispered, "Captain, this thing is completely intact!"
Finally reaching the machine's side, Yu Tian let out a sigh of relief.
He touched the object and asked, "Hong, do you have any idea what this is made of?"
"I'm not quite sure about that."
Yu Tian wiped it clean, revealing a black exterior that shimmered with an enchanting glow.
"Captain, I just found a hand! Look!" Hearing Hong's excited voice, Yu Tian turned his head away, only to see Hong pulling out a hand from behind him. In his grasp was another hand, green and covered in fuzz, with shriveled skin hanging loosely and bony fingers tipped with sharp claws.
"Where did you find such a disgusting thing? Throw it away!" Yu Tian immediately turned his head, wondering why a grown man would be afraid of such things.
"Captain, I want to take it back for research. It might help us understand its weaknesses if we encounter it again," Hong explained earnestly.
"Fine, just wrap it up," Yu Tian replied, still looking away until Hong placed the Beast Claw into the backpack and came closer. "Hong, didn't you say last time that this thing might have created the gravitational field? Could it be that it also split the black hole in half?" Hong boldly posed the question, and Yu Tian had thought about similar issues but had never voiced them.
"Yeah, it's possible. Since it's so important, let's add a protective magnetic field around it."
"Alright!"
After that, they rummaged through the trunk for tools and quickly added a Pyramid Shield to it. Looking at the softly glowing magnetic shield, they both smiled.
"Let's hope everything stays calm!" they silently prayed in their hearts.
After taking one last look at the protected device, the two hopped onto their hoverboards and rushed toward the cave entrance. The cave mouth remained remarkably intact; was it an illusion? Yu Tian pondered, hoping that this place could remain peaceful.
If only everything could truly be like this!
But what was the reality?
