This night was anything but peaceful. Yu Tian had a strange dream:
He took his father's magic wand, and outside the palace, explosions echoed.
His father wiped away his tears, sealed his memories and energy, cast a forbidden spell on him, and then a crystal ball took him away...
In the dream, Yu Tian felt lost, yet there was a sense that he had experienced this before.
Suddenly, a sharp scream pulled him back to reality. Yu Tian quickly turned over and stood up alertly.
At that moment, Lin burst through the door. Her face was pale, and her steps trembled. Something must have happened, Yu Tian thought.
"Lin, what's wrong?" Yu Tian asked, sensing something was off.
"Captain, there's a monster sitting in Brother's seat in the cockpit!" Lin blurted out without pausing for breath.
"A monster?" Yu Tian's heart skipped a beat. Judging by Lin's expression, she wasn't joking. "Lin, take me to see!"
With that, Yu Tian drew the Atomic Beam Gun from his coat, inserted an Energy Core, and activated tracking mode. He dashed out with Lin right behind him, leading the way.
They quietly approached the cockpit, and when they saw inside, Yu Tian was taken aback.
Sitting in Hong's seat was a "person" wearing Hong's clothes, but one of its hands had a Beast Claw moving.
"Could it be that Hong is in trouble?" Yu Tian activated the Atomic Beam Gun, ready to shoot at the slightest movement.
"What are you?" Yu Tian shouted, feeling a slight pain in his throat.
As he looked at it turning around, both he and Lin's hearts raced as they imagined what kind of monster it could be. To their surprise, the so-called "monster" was actually Hong. He had headphones on and was holding the Beast Claw they had retrieved two days ago.
"Bro, what are you doing? You scared both me and Hong!" Lin scolded him without holding back upon realizing it was Hong. Seeing them, Hong removed his headphones.
"Lin, you say I scared you? I was just conducting an experiment," Hong replied, lacking his usual affectionate tone. Even the slight glimmer of mischief in his eyes was something I caught. Yu Tian sensed that things had escalated to a new level, perhaps even a deteriorating one.
Lin was unyielding. "Do you need to wave around a disgusting claw while doing your experiment?"
Hong realized he couldn't win against Lin and surrendered. "Sister, I was wrong, okay?" However, his tone was completely devoid of liveliness; it was very serious. Yu Tian thought that Hong must have encountered something strange yesterday, just like himself, and they were still in the stage of speculation, but it would soon pass. At that moment, whether he was friend or foe was hard to say, but for now, he was still on their team, which eased Yu Tian's worries slightly.
"Not unless... unless..." Lin turned her flushed face and directed the gaze of the Water Spirit at Yu Tian, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Sister, what do you want me to do?" Yu Tian stood aside, watching their argument with great amusement. However, the worries from his subconscious kept him from feeling too happy; the recent variables had been overwhelming. He wasn't even sure if he could complete the mission and return safely.
"Unless you apologize to the captain!" Upon hearing this, Yu Tian thought it was absurd! He shot Lin a glare, but she playfully dodged it.
"Lin, don't be like that. Your brother is doing this for work!" Lin let out a soft "hum," and Yu Tian wondered why she was so quiet in front of him.
"Hong, you're also to blame for making us worry. Both your sister and I were so concerned we thought you might have been eaten by a monster!" Yu Tian walked over and sat down as Lin quietly slipped away.
"Captain, don't worry about that; how could they eat me..." Hong realized he had let something slip and abruptly stopped.
"Hong, how do you know they won't eat you?" Yu Tian felt something was off; could it be that Hong had some connection with those creatures?
Hong became flustered and stammered, "I meant they don't have that capability!"
"Oh, that's true." Yu Tian began to suspect there might be some connection between Hong and those monsters, but revealing it too soon wouldn't be wise. Seeing Hong's deliberately evasive gaze made him realize the situation was not good. Perhaps they would become enemies in the next moment, but for now, they could still have a decent conversation.
"Captain, I need to go to the lab for a bit; I'll head out first." Hong quickly stood up and hurried toward the laboratory.
Yu Tian also got up and headed toward his sleeping quarters. Since Hong wasn't giving him even one last chance to communicate, as captain he couldn't force it; it seemed he would have to use some tactics instead. After all, he and Lin were siblings; having Lin keep an eye on Hong should prevent any major issues.
Even though it was morning, Yu Tian's mind was in chaos. He lay down; the bed was still comfortable. The person from yesterday's dream was indeed me—was I really recovering my memories as that Memory Crystal Ball suggested? Or was it just a dream? What secrets did Hong keep from me? Was this place a black hole or another planet?
The more Yu Tian tried to sort things out, the more confused he became. He didn't know what the outcome would be nor did anyone else seem able to tell him. Yu Tian stood up from his bed and walked outside. For some reason, Hong had ended up in the cockpit again—perhaps he was deliberately avoiding him!
"Hong, I want to go out for a bit today; you can stay on the ship and study!" Yu Tian tossed out this statement before turning away; he had to check if what he heard was true.
"Captain, I'm not going," Hong said, looking at Yu Tian, his eyes reflecting a sense of nostalgia. He missed the past so much! Over the last ten days, they had traversed the jungle together, shared jokes, solved riddles, and played games that replayed in his mind like a movie. Unknowingly, tears welled up in the corners of his eyes; the memories were indeed hard to bear. Although the future seemed uncertain, perhaps it could be controlled, Yu Tian thought.
"Mm!" Yu Tian turned back and began entering a large batch of data into the main computer as he walked toward the Backup Cabin. Hong didn’t say anything; he probably had something to say but couldn’t bring himself to ask. From Yu Tian's twitching lips and flickering eyes, he sensed that Hong was deeply conflicted, just like himself.
On the way, Yu Tian encountered Lin. She had changed into a light dress that was stunningly beautiful. Yu Tian couldn't help but exclaim in admiration, and she shyly lowered her head in response. He wanted nothing more than to hold her tightly in his arms; his intuition told him they were about to part ways. Whether this feeling was correct or not didn’t matter; reason told him to set aside personal feelings for now.
"Captain, where are you going?" Lin asked softly when she noticed Yu Tian's distant gaze, her tone filled with concern.
"Oh, just going out to investigate a bit." A warm current surged in his heart, but he truly couldn’t linger any longer. Yu Tian walked around Lin and caught a glimpse of her disappointed expression. It left a bitter taste in his mouth, yet he pressed on, nearing the Backup Cabin.
"Where are you going?" Lin hurried after him; she really did care about him. But at that moment, his heart was elsewhere—truly elsewhere.
"Lin, trust no one too much except yourself, including me. Keep an eye on your friends for me; if you don't want to, just forget I said anything!" Yu Tian felt compelled to express his thoughts. He didn’t want her to become a pawn in his game, but he mistakenly believed that as a pawn she would be safe from harm. He thought if she didn’t want to do it, he wouldn’t force her; after saying this, he stepped through the door.
Lin's face was filled with confusion; indeed, it was strange to listen to an outsider's advice about monitoring her brother. They had only spent a short time together; although they loved each other, it was hard to discern whether that love was merely fleeting passion or something deeper.
Yu Tian didn’t want to tell her—it wasn’t reluctance; it was concern.
As he closed the door behind him, Yu Tian called out to Lin outside, "Lin, don’t tell anyone what I just said!"
Lin understood who he was referring to and finally met Yu Tian's gaze directly. "But why?" she asked.
