Stone House
Yu Tian stopped his meditation, forced to do so because at that moment, he felt he could no longer absorb any elemental energy.
"What is going on?" he wondered as he walked to the ventilation opening. The opening was still there, but he could feel no air movement at all.
Suddenly, Yu Tian realized—was he trapped here?
He approached the wall he had entered through and pressed a stone block inscribed with magical runes. A beam of purple light shone forth, and he immediately felt relieved as he moved toward the light.
However, he soon discovered that he had returned to the stone cave. The "Little Ru" integrated into his left hand conveyed a message: it was the "Dream Barrier." This was a high-level control technique of magical energy that created overlapping spatial areas, completely trapping individuals inside. At the same time, Little Ru informed him of the only way to break it: by killing or disrupting the caster. The requirements for the Dream Barrier were extremely high; it needed at least four high-level mages to maintain it and required a large amount of energy supplements, such as Energy Crystals. If the casting could be interrupted, the barrier would collapse immediately and then disappear.
Yu Tian recalled from memory that he had come here alone, with no direct assistance from anyone else. Was he really going to die here from energy depletion?
"No!" He suddenly raised his head and shouted. He summoned Little Ru from his left hand and held it high above his head.
Yu Tian remembered reading in a magic book that continuous attacks on a barrier would allow it to break once its energy was exhausted. He had no better options, so he had to give it a try. However, he was mistaken; that method could only break ordinary barriers. Against a Dream Barrier sustained by mages infusing energy into it, it would have no effect at all. At this moment, he had entered a state of frenzy with no time to think.
He channeled a surge of energy into Little Ru, which seemed to understand the gravity of its mission. Without hesitation, the hexagram at its tip began to glow and spun rapidly. Drawing upon the memories transmitted by Little Ru, Yu Tian chanted, "'Energy Arrow,' pierce through!" As he combined the incantation with his intent, the explosive power of energy indeed increased significantly.
The hexagram's brilliance surged as a pure blue short arrow gradually took shape, one after another—dozens of them! They were highly concentrated forms of magical energy, a physical manifestation of energy itself. Yu Tian had no time to think calmly. He manipulated the Energy Arrows with his mind and charged them toward the hidden Dream Barrier at the entrance.
An arrow struck the barrier, and after a brief pause, the Energy Arrow pierced through. It seemed like a step forward, and a hint of relief appeared on Yu Tian's face.
However, the Energy Arrow gradually shrank, prompting him to quickly fire three more arrows in succession. The three arrows caused the barrier to tremble slightly, allowing a surge of energy to seep in from the outside. They were immediately absorbed, and the three light arrows vanished. It was strange; despite having pierced through, how could they suddenly be absorbed?
In fact, the few individuals inside the array tower thought that Yu Tian would retreat in the face of difficulty or would not dare to act rashly. So, they were engaged in a game called Petrified Dice, which Hong had taught them. They used Energy Crystals as currency, much like money on Earth.
When Yu Tian launched his initial attack, they noticed it immediately. They were startled at first but quickly moved to remedy the situation, rushing toward the stone tower where a large reserve of Energy Crystals was stored.
Just as Yu Tian was about to succeed, they managed to replenish their energy in time. If he had unleashed all his arrows at once during his first attempt, he might have broken through. However, once those mages obtained Energy Crystals and replenished their energy, the Dream Barrier became much harder to breach. Regrettably, he missed his optimal opportunity, but that was how the story was meant to unfold.
At this point, Yu Tian had no energy left to think and shot out the remaining dozens of Energy Arrows. The entire stone cave was filled with brilliant blue light, resembling sunlight filtered through Energy Crystals. So many arrows struck the Dream Barrier that it bulged outwards by more than half a meter, with neither side gaining an advantage.
Little Ru sensed that the opportunity had arrived and began releasing its stored energy as well. Instantly, blue and white lights intertwined, and the entire space fell silent. Yu Tian could clearly hear his own heartbeat and the sound of energy flowing within him. It seemed that for this moment, everything had come to a temporary halt.
Suddenly, he heard a faint cracking sound; it turned out that the Dream Barrier could not withstand the overwhelming explosive force any longer and had developed visible cracks that gradually widened. Little Ru became even more excited and instantly channeled all its energy into the Energy Arrows.
However, before they could celebrate, denser strands of purple light shot in through the cracks. The fissures began to heal gradually as the Energy Arrows melted away one by one. The barrier that had been on the verge of breaking returned to its original state.
Yu Tian refused to give up and employed various more powerful energy control techniques, but nothing worked. Seeing his older brother in distress, Little Ru nearly attempted to remove the Blood Mark and use Dragon Soul's Soul Power to break through the barrier. Fortunately, Yu Tian stopped him just in time; no matter what happened, he couldn't bear to part with Little Ru.
Seeing her brother near despair, Little Ru revealed her true identity.
It turned out she was the Dragon Tendon of the Divine Dragon King from the early Magic Era—essentially where Dragon Soul resided—and had participated in the first Divine Demons War. Many of her companions' Dragon Souls were obliterated by strange techniques. Witnessing their deaths as their king, she used her own dragon blood to awaken Dragon's Guardian—a forbidden magic of her kind. If it hadn't been for a Magic Saint discovering her and using his own blood to place a Blood Mark on her, she would have ceased to exist in her current form for billions of years.
“Little Ru,” at this point, the so-called speaking was merely a form of mental communication, and it felt somewhat weak. Yu Tian understood that there would be more opportunities to converse in the future, so he interrupted it, urging it to return to its core to recover its energy. Little Ru did not resist; although it was a Dragon Soul, the depletion of elemental energy had indeed left it exhausted.
In this enclosed space, Yu Tian secretly infused a small amount of energy into Little Ru. He knew he had to make reasonable use of this limited energy.
He approached the air vent and peered through the crack, catching sight of several stone towers. They were located just outside, in an area he had initially overlooked, from which the purple light emanated. He also saw many Beast Soldiers busily transporting Energy Crystals to the towers.
The Dream Barrier had restored itself, and not a single Energy Arrow remained; all had dissipated. Was he destined to be trapped in this small stone cave forever? A sense of despair began to creep into Yu Tian's heart.
