The atmosphere in the building was lifeless, no wonder the doctor had been so serious earlier. Yu Tian thought to himself as he walked toward the office wing.
"Excuse me! Is the Director of Cosmic Affairs available?" Yu Tian knew that it was this very director who had signed off on the Black Hole Project, so he should still be around!
"Who are you?" The beautiful Secretary looked up, a puzzled expression on her face as she stared intently at Yu Tian.
"I am Yu Tian, and I'm here to invite him to my small wedding party!"
"He's not available—" To Yu Tian's surprise, the Secretary was quite blunt, giving him a definitive answer before he could explain further.
"Oh? You don't know who I am?" Yu Tian feigned a pitiful look, hoping to elicit some sympathy, but the Secretary responded with a disdainful glare.
What a tragedy!
"Our Director Richard—doesn't—want—to see anyone—including you!" The Secretary spoke clearly in Mandarin, and her pronunciation was quite good.
Yu Tian had initially considered inviting the beautiful Secretary along, but the more he looked at her, the more repulsive she seemed. What a shame to have such an unpleasant personality wrapped in a pretty package! What right did she have to act so high and mighty? If only robots could take over secretarial duties; it was just these directors and ministers who wouldn’t allow it.
"Richard?" The name sounded unfamiliar to Yu Tian; it seemed there had been a change in leadership.
Lost in thought, Yu Tian stepped outside and inquired at several departments. It appeared that in this era, he was being overlooked by these people. Indeed, how many had enjoyed their fame only to pass away or be forgotten by time? Time erodes people's memories; one day, it might even make us forget who we are.
Feeling somewhat melancholic, Yu Tian sensed that the atmosphere here was quite unsettling. It felt oppressive, as if something significant was weighing down on everyone. It was building up like a volcano, dormant for thousands of years, just waiting for the day it would erupt.
"What’s going on with these folks?" Yu Tian approached a young man who seemed relatively friendly.
"What did you say?" The young guard immediately turned hostile, his mood shifting faster than a chameleon.
"Nothing! Nothing! I just feel like everyone is being overly serious—" Yu Tian sighed.
"Yeah! We Snow Wolf Warriors are stuck here as guards!" The young man said angrily but then sighed again, his frustration fading into resignation.
"Snow Wolf Warriors? Oh my gosh, that's the unit I've always admired!" Yu Tian recalled the large Snow Wolf mural in his living room. "But I've been working with the Anti-Violence Squad all this time; they won’t let me transfer."
"You are from the Anti-Violence Squad? That's pretty impressive!" The young man finally smiled, showing that they still shared the camaraderie of warriors.
"Don't mention it, that's all in the past! In a few hundred years, no one will remember me!" Yu Tian patted the young man's shoulder and walked away.
"Your words are strange, but let me tell you—" the young man lowered his voice, "something big is about to happen. When the time comes, we warriors will return to the battlefield. I hope we aren't enemies then." After saying this, he walked away as his superior approached.
Yu Tian didn't want to cause any more trouble; there had already been enough oddities for one day. He hurried out of the building and boarded a bus that traveled back and forth to Earth.
Sitting on the bus as it gradually picked up speed, Yu Tian reflected: not only had people changed, but many things had transformed as well.
Perhaps a millennium of peace was about to be shattered!
Lin had, of course, ordered plenty of good dishes and prepared a sumptuous dinner for Yu Tian.
That evening, both were rather quiet. Yaxu was excited but also restless, while Yu Tian rambled incoherently after drinking. Fortunately, Lin's words were quite effective; she soon coaxed Yu Tian into bed, where he fell asleep peacefully.
The next day, after breakfast, they began preparing for the afternoon party. Yu Tian had already contacted the local shield management agency to create a nighttime effect by noon; that would make for an interesting party!
Little Ru could hardly contain himself and insisted on meeting his sister-in-law in person. Unable to refuse him, Yu Tian agreed, adding another new friend to the list of attendees.
"Hey, big brother and sister-in-law!" Little Ru burst through the door, dressed in a blue-black casual outfit that was quite colorful. Yu Tian frowned but reluctantly walked over.
"Hey, why did you come so early?" Yu Tian leaned closer to Little Ru's ear and added, "Behave yourself!"
"Hehe. Big brother, I just couldn't wait to see this beautiful sister-in-law!" Little Ru grinned at Lin. At that moment, he had transformed into quite a handsome young man, making Lin feel a bit shy.
"Oh—he is—" Lin turned around immediately to look at Yu Tian and asked with a hint of playfulness, as if inquiring why he hadn't mentioned having a younger brother before.
"I'm Brother Tian's new brother; I just met him a few days ago!" Little Ru lied smoothly. "My name is Jack!"
"Jack! What a common name! Since you're his brother, I'll make sure to treat you well!" Lin said as she handed him a plate of fragrant tea.
"Thank you, sister-in-law—big brother, you really are lucky!" Little Ru winked at Yu Tian.
"You're still not as good at lying as you are!" Of course, Yu Tian said this quietly, but she suddenly noticed Lin frown. Did she know? "Lin, let's hurry and prepare the food! Jack—once you're done, come help us!" With that, Yu Tian grabbed Lin's hand and headed toward the kitchen.
"I have no idea how long this cup of tea will take!" Little Ru replied from behind, and Yu Tian shot him a glare.
"Hehe—just take your time with it!" With that, Yu Tian closed the door.
"Wow, you two really have a great relationship!" Lin suddenly asked.
"Yeah, it's a kind of warrior's camaraderie!" He suddenly thought of the Snow Wolf Warriors. "We both love to fight but hate war. After that sparring session, we started calling each other brothers!"
"Oh, I see!" In the spacious kitchen, two robots were busy making various desserts, while Lin and Yu Tian personally handled the main dishes. All the ingredients were being cut into specific shapes under the control of a programmed machine.
Little Ru wandered around the house, sensing a strange aura lurking from a distance. It felt weak, almost like it would dissipate if he tried to capture it. He was a bit worried; it seemed like some sister-in-law was probing him. He vaguely remembered that she was a saintess and likely had some special abilities. Since it wouldn't harm him, Little Ru didn't worry too much.
At that moment, there was a knock at the door—more guests had arrived.
"Jack—go open the door!" Yu Tian's voice called from the kitchen.
"Got it!" Little Ru hurried down from upstairs and quickly walked toward the side door.
