"Got it, Brother Yi! Hang in there!" Jiao Ba shouted back at me.
The female corpse glared at me with blood-red eyes, and a foul, damp odor emanated from her body. I yelled at Jiao Ba, "Hurry up while I'm still alive!"
I still had a sharp knife in my hand, which should buy me some time. I slowly began to back away. Then I heard a loud crashing sound; it must have been Jiao Ba ramming into the cabin again. Now, all my hopes rested on him. I just hoped we could make it out of here alive.
The female corpse remained standing there, staring at me. I dared not look directly into her blood-red eyes. I had no idea what she wanted. But since she wasn’t moving, I wouldn’t either. I wasn’t foolish enough to try to fight her with a knife; this woman didn’t even flinch at bullets—what good would a knife do?
My heart raced faster and faster, and the atmosphere in the cabin was eerily oppressive. Aside from the 'thud-thud' of the impacts, I could hear nothing else. The seawater had risen significantly and was nearly up to my chest. If we didn’t leave soon, we wouldn’t need the corpse to do anything; we’d drown in the water.
“Lao Ba, hurry up! I can’t hold on much longer; the ship is sinking!” I shouted again, desperate not to die like this.
“Brother Yi, I’m still trying to break through! Damn it, there’s nothing here! My arms are about to fall off!” Jiao Ba's exhausted voice came through.
That idiot! I yelled back, “Go find a gun and shoot open the cabin!”
As soon as I finished that sentence, I felt a powerful chill rush toward my face. This coldness was emanating from the female corpse. A shiver ran down my spine as I glanced around the cabin; frost had already formed on the surfaces. The temperature of the seawater was dropping rapidly, making me tremble uncontrollably. My teeth began to chatter involuntarily—I sensed she was about to explode.
Sure enough, after releasing another wave of intense cold, her beast-like voice grew louder and louder. There was no wind in the cabin at all, yet her hair danced wildly in the air. Her facial expression twisted grotesquely; veins bulged on her forehead, and she had long lost any semblance of beauty. Her face resembled something out of a nightmare.
Now the entire Wreck began to sway slightly again. Then the female corpse threw her head back and let out a scream that pierced through the Wreck. I clamped my hands over my ears in agony, feeling as if my eardrums were about to burst; my body felt like it was going to explode from the pressure.
In just a few seconds, the Wreck began to shake violently, and the water beneath us bubbled as if it were boiling. What the hell was happening? Did she want to take us down with her? No, it seemed she wanted us to join her in death.
I shouted frantically again, "Lao Ba, hurry up! This corpse is going crazy, and the ship is sinking!"
Jiao Ba screamed in despair, "Brother Yi, I can't break free! What do we do? What do we do?"
Damn it, at such a critical moment he was falling apart and asking me what to do. If I knew what to do, we wouldn't be in this mess. The screams of the corpse grew louder, and the shaking of the Wreck intensified, as if an earthquake were occurring. It was clear we were about to sink.
To hell with it; I couldn't care less about that corpse anymore. I quickly swam towards Jiao Ba's direction. The water had already risen to my chest; if I didn't move fast, it would be over.
At that moment, a shadow scrambled towards the Hatch. The figure was close enough for me to recognize immediately from his hefty build.
It was Bearded Man. That bastard was trying to open the Hatch. If he succeeded and the Bloodsucker Worm got in, we would all die on the spot. Without thinking twice, I turned around and swam back towards Bearded Man. The Hatch was tightly sealed, and with the Wreck shaking violently, he couldn't even create a small gap. Frustrated, he yelled out in panic.
Just as I was about to reach him, another shadow quickly followed behind. He grabbed Bearded Man by the neck from behind and shouted, "You idiot! We can't open the Hatch; if we do, we're all dead!" It was Jiao Ba's voice; it seemed he hadn't lost his mind yet.
"Get off me! Get off! I need to get out!" Bearded Man had completely lost it. He broke free from Jiao Ba's grip and swung a few punches, knocking Jiao Ba down into the water.
That bastard didn't even bother with Jiao Ba anymore and turned back to try opening the Hatch again. Jiao Ba managed to get back up and lunged at him again. Though he was frail and no match for Bearded Man, Jiao Ba was cunning; he bit down hard on Bearded Man's neck.
With a scream of pain, Bearded Man immediately let go. Jiao Ba clung to his neck like a rabid dog, refusing to let go no matter what. This only made Bearded Man more furious; he retaliated with two powerful punches and then executed a throw that sent Jiao Ba crashing back into the water.
This time, Jiao Ba didn't get back up; it seemed Bearded Man had knocked him senseless. My anger flared up instantly. Damn that stupid idiot! Not only did he try to take our boat and our money, but now he had also put us in this perilous situation. I swore I would make him pay for this.
I quickly swam over to Jiao Ba and shouted, "Lao Ba, how are you?"
Jiao Ba opened his eyes and spat out a few mouthfuls of seawater. "I'm fine, Brother Yi. Hurry up and stop that idiot! If the hatch opens, we'll be devoured alive by the Bloodsucker Worm!"
I looked around; on one side, the Bearded Man was about to open the hatch, while on the other, the female corpse was going wild. Both directions posed a threat to our lives. The female corpse was screaming incessantly, shaking the wreck to its core, leaving me paralyzed with indecision.
"Brother Yi, what the hell are you dawdling for? Get moving!" Jiao Ba shouted again.
His curse snapped me back to reality. I pulled Jiao Ba up and yelled, "Forget that bastard's life! We need to ram the ship!" At this point, it was the only option. Even if we stopped the Bearded Man, if that female corpse sank the ship, we would still die. Conversely, I couldn't stop her; going over there would be a death sentence. Once the Bearded Man opened the hatch, we were doomed regardless.
We quickly swam over to Shunzi's side. He had already passed out, clutching a piece of wood floating in the cabin's seawater. I took hold of Shunzi, and the three of us swam to the edge of the cabin. The water inside the wreck was nearly up to our necks. Jiao Ba and I began frantically banging against the cabin walls, but this time we weren't as lucky; no matter how hard we hit, the cabin wouldn't break.
We were both on the verge of madness when suddenly, the Bearded Man opened the hatch. He let out a scream and charged toward us like a madman. I focused my gaze and saw a dark mass in the water outside the hatch rapidly approaching us...
