I glanced outside, and Jenny's Fishing Boat had arrived. They boarded the gangplank and began preparing to get on the Bearded Man's fishing vessel. I gestured to Jiao Ba, and we quickly exited the cabin, running directly to the stern of the boat.
I was pushing through the pain, sweat pouring down my chest. "Brother Yi, how are you? Are you okay?" Jiao Ba asked quietly, supporting me.
I shook my head and said, "I'm fine. I can hold on; we have to stop them."
The lights from the fishing boat were blinding. Jiao Ba and I hid at the back, crouching down to look ahead. It seemed most people had already left. I signaled for Jiao Ba to follow me as we cautiously made our way toward the bow of the boat. This way, we could stay behind Jenny's group.
By the time we circled back to the bow, Jenny and her crew had already entered the cabin. "Follow them, hurry!" I urged Jiao Ba as we jogged inside, our footsteps quickly drawing their attention.
The flashlight beam instantly focused on us. "Loyalty and Righteousness? Jiao Ba? What... what are you doing here?" Jenny exclaimed in surprise upon seeing us.
"Where else would we be? Why are you so nervous?" I feigned ignorance.
"Brother Yi, Lao Ba, are you alright?" Shunzi asked with a worried expression, but I couldn't help but find his face irritating.
"We're fine; what could possibly happen to us?" I continued to play dumb.
Mai Lao approached with a flashlight in hand. "Where have you two been? We've been looking for you for ages."
I deliberately acted confused and exchanged a glance with Jiao Ba, who played along by shaking his head like an idiot.
"No, Mai Lao, I didn't understand what you meant. Where did we go?" I stared at him blankly, trying to remain calm.
Jenny glanced at Shunzi and said, "Shunzi said you called him to the Storage Room in the middle of the night, and then he disappeared. We were worried."
I smiled helplessly and said, "What nonsense! Shunzi, are you dreaming? There’s no such thing. Jiao Ba and I were just in the kitchen eating and drinking, we didn’t go anywhere."
"I didn't hear wrong, Brother Yi, it was really you calling me..."
"Alright, alright, you must have been dreaming. Ask Lao Ba, we've been on the boat the whole time, we didn't go anywhere." I interrupted Shunzi before he could finish.
"Yeah, Jenny, Brother Yi and I have been on the boat. What are you two up to?" Jiao Ba asked in agreement.
"Forget it, forget it. Since you two are fine, did you hear a loud noise earlier?" Mai Lao looked at me and asked.
I shook my head and said, "No, what loud noise? You must have misheard. What could scare us off in the middle of the night? Let’s go back and rest."
"How could we mishear? That loud noise shook the fishing boat. Didn't you feel it?" Jenny asked with her sharp eyes fixed on me.
It seemed that trying to fool them wouldn’t be easy. "Oh come on, even if there was a loud noise, what does it have to do with this fishing boat? Why would we come here in the middle of the night? Let’s go back, Jenny, it’s pretty windy."
"Loyalty and Righteousness, what’s wrong with you? You seem off," Jenny stared at me and asked.
"Brother Yi, your face doesn’t look good. Why is there blood on your lips?" Shunzi shone his flashlight on my face.
I swatted his flashlight away and said, "Get that flashlight out of my face! Are you trying to blind me? What kind of look is that? This isn’t blood; it's ketchup! I accidentally got it on myself while eating."
I practically shouted at Shunzi, spitting saliva all over him in the process, which left him too stunned to respond. Jiao Ba tugged at me a couple of times, trying to ease the tension. "What’s wrong, Brother Yi? Shunzi is just worried about you."
I couldn’t understand why Jiao Ba was defending Shunzi. How could that guy be worried about me? It was a miracle he hadn’t killed me yet. Just thinking about what I heard outside the window made my blood boil.
"Alright, Loyalty and Righteousness, Shunzi meant well. As long as you're fine, we came here to check because that loud noise came from this boat. Let’s go check it out; we don’t want any accidents." Mai Lao patted my arm with a smile, but his smile felt strange. I sensed he might have seen through my lies. No wonder; my deception was pretty flimsy. But since he didn’t want to expose me, I had no reason to admit anything.
"Wait, are we really going?" I was a bit taken aback, feeling like my words were falling on deaf ears.
"Come on, checking it out can't hurt. Here, take this flashlight," Mai Lao said, handing me a flashlight with a familiar smile on his face.
Jiao Ba and I exchanged helpless glances. There was no way around it; since Mai Lao insisted, we had to grit our teeth and follow along. But then I suddenly realized that Li Xin was not in the crowd. The last time Jenny came looking for us, Li Xin wasn't there either, and now she was absent again.
"Jenny, why isn't Li Xin here?" I asked while waving the flashlight around.
"Li Xin said she wasn't feeling well and didn't come," Jenny replied softly.
Not feeling well? I couldn't help but think of another matter. Li Xin had been closely following us lately; why was she suddenly absent this time? It seemed too coincidental that she would fall ill now when she had been fine before.
I recalled that short man in black who had been stabbed by me. Upon closer examination of his build, he bore a striking resemblance to Li Xin.
I remembered Jenny mentioning that Li Xin was skilled in various martial arts. Although I had never seen her in action, it must be true. The short black-clad man used Japanese Ninjutsu, employing fierce techniques mixed with other fighting styles. Coupled with Li Xin's recent behavior and sudden changes, I couldn't help but suspect that this man might actually be Li Xin.
Though the situation had become more complicated, it also seemed to provide more clues. I really needed to find a time to discuss everything that happened tonight with Jiao Ba; there were too many questions, especially regarding that dream of mine...
"Loyalty and Righteousness, what are you daydreaming about? Let's go," Mai Lao's voice pulled me back to reality.
"Oh, right!" I hurriedly jogged a few steps to catch up.
We continued checking each cabin one by one. While there weren't any significant changes, every cabin with windows had shattered glass scattered everywhere, leaving the cabins looking quite messy.
Others might not know what had happened, but I was well aware: this was the work of that female corpse. This time we were in big trouble; if that corpse broke through the talisman, I felt like we would be facing serious consequences.
Jiao Ba whispered in my ear, "Brother Yi, think of a way to stop them!"
I turned my head and glared at him. Damn it, even if you don't say anything, I already know. But what the hell can I do? These people are even more anxious than I am.
"What exactly happened here? Why is all the glass shattered?" Jenny stood at the door of the cabin, shining her flashlight around.
"It should be due to that loud noise earlier," Mai Lao said as he walked into the cabin and looked around.
"It sounds like something exploded. It can't be gas, right?" Shunzi chimed in stupidly from the side.
"If it were a gas explosion, this ship would have been blown to bits by now. It wouldn't just break a few pieces of glass," I replied coldly.
Mai Lao nodded and said, "Yeah, Loyalty and Righteousness is right. If it were a gas explosion, the ship would have been destroyed long ago. Let's go check the next cabin."
"Mai Lao, I think we should just head back. This is about enough; nothing serious seems to have happened," I continued to persuade Mai Lao, hoping it would work. As long as this Old Man agreed to go back, no one else would dare to say anything.
Mai Lao glanced at Jenny and said, "How about we listen to Loyalty and Righteousness? After all, nothing major has happened."
Jenny sighed and said, "Alright then, let's head back."
I was overjoyed inside. I subtly glanced at Jiao Bayi, and he nodded gently at me. Just as we were about to return, someone suddenly shouted, "Mai Lao, come quick! Something's happened!"
