Jiao Ba calmly said, "Curses have existed since ancient times, but they are rarely encountered. If it weren't for Changshan reminding me today, I might not have recalled it for a while. It seems that the entire island we are on is cursed." 0

"I told you before that the Yin Qi here is too heavy, and the evil presence is intense. Now I finally understand why. This small island must be burying a large number of dead people. You can see it from that ditch; the shadows in there are actually all corpses." 0

"So when will I die?" That was the question I was most concerned about. 0

"When will you die? What do you mean?" Jiao Ba seemed not to understand yet. 0

"Didn't you say I was cursed? Does that mean I'm going to die soon?" I said coldly, glancing at the others in front of us. Thankfully, my voice wasn't loud enough to disturb them. 0

Jiao Ba suddenly chuckled, "Don't worry, Brother Yi, you won't die." 0

"Lao Ba, are you messing with me? You just said I was cursed, and now you're saying I won't die? Are you trying to fool me?" I punched Jiao Bayi lightly, not using much force. There was a surge of anger inside me, but it wasn't enough to vent on my brother. 0

Jiao Ba moved closer and whispered, "You don't understand, Brother Yi. This curse comes from those who died on this island. It's not that the curse killed them; it's that after they died, they cursed this small island, which is why things are like this." 0

"You are cursed by these dead Wraiths. For now, you'll be fine; at most, you'll just have some bad luck for a few years or even a decade. But after that, who knows? Once the curse starts to reveal itself, it will torment you for a lifetime." The last sentence Jiao Ba spoke in a very somber tone, filled with helplessness. 0

After hearing his words, I nearly stumbled while walking. "What exactly does this so-called torment entail?" 0

"I'm not too sure either. I've heard my old man say that when a living person is cursed, the outcome varies depending on the type of curse. Some of the most vicious curses can affect your parents and your wife and children. But they often won't be fatal; instead, they'll slowly torment you until you wish you were dead—it's truly unbearable." Jiao Ba seemed to be telling a story as his expression changed back and forth. 0

"So you're saying I'm doomed and can only wait for the result?" Hearing him say this made my heart sink. It seemed I would have to live a miserable life from now on. Thinking about it further, my current situation was already quite tragic. 0

"Not necessarily. All curses can potentially be broken, as long as we find the source of the curse, we can unravel it." 0

This was the very statement I longed to hear. If the curse could be broken, it meant there was still hope for me. "Brother Yi, do you have confidence? Can you save me?" My voice carried a sense of yearning, a desperate wish. 0

"Don't worry, Supreme Mad Consort. I will find a way. As long as we locate the root of this curse, I can break it. Trust me," Jiao Ba said, firmly nodding while gripping my shoulder. 0

I glanced around and felt as if the colorful world was fading into black and white. Here I was, a cursed person, and I had no idea when this curse would strike. Once it did, I would have to endure unimaginable torment—worse than being shot. 0

"Lao Ba, according to you, there should be many dead people on this deserted island. Yet we haven't seen any corpses so far, except for that dark figure in the river," I pondered aloud. I just couldn't understand where all these dead bodies were; we had traversed more than half of the jungle without encountering a single corpse. 0

Jiao Ba spoke mysteriously, "This is just the beginning; we haven't even explored the mountains yet. Besides, the dead might not be above ground; they could be buried deep underground. In any case, this deserted island is quite extraordinary and likely connected to the secrets of the Nautical Chart." 0

I felt the same way. This little island was definitely not a mere coincidence for our escape; someone was orchestrating events behind the scenes. But what their true purpose was remained unclear to me. One thing was certain: they were here searching for something, and there might be treasures hidden on this deserted island. 0

"Do you remember that Shriveled Old Man? Since this island is cursed by the Wraiths of the dead, how could he survive here?" I seemed to have found a clue but couldn't quite grasp it. 0

"It's simple; perhaps he is the source of this curse. Curses are offerings made by the living using the Wraiths of the dead to generate powerful dark forces that control the entire island." Jiao Ba hit the nail on the head. 0

"Exactly! You’re right; he might indeed be the source of this curse. The way that old man looks, he certainly doesn't seem like an ordinary person—he exudes an aura of killing and death. But what puzzles me is why his eyes resemble those of the Cat-Eyed Man in Black?" 0

I had been pondering this matter for days; it was definitely not a coincidence. How many people in this world have cat-like eyes that radiate evil? 0

"I've thought about that too; they might have some connection from before. This situation is becoming increasingly complicated, and it's getting harder to control everything involved. This indicates that there are unpredictable and unforeseen matters behind this Nautical Chart—whether it's a conspiracy or something else can only be revealed when the truth comes to light." Jiao Ba brushed aside some vines in front of him and bent down to move forward. 0

I followed closely behind him. "Actually, that Shriveled Old Man has been following us all along." 0

Jiao Bamen stopped and glanced at me, saying, "Where is it?" 0

"I don't know exactly where, but it should be around us. I saw him just now at the small Ditch," I replied as I also came to a halt. 0

"Loyalty and Righteousness, Jiao Ba, what are you two doing? Hurry up and catch up!" Mai Lao turned around and shouted at us. 0

"Oh, got it," I responded, signaling Jiao Ba to move forward. "What do you think that old man means?" 0

"How would I know? I haven't seen him yet. But I have to remind you, don't tell anyone about this. There are definitely people in our group who know what's going on," Jiao Ba said, his eyes brightening. He clearly had suspicions about someone but wasn't confident enough to share them with me yet. 0

Suddenly, I remembered something. "Does Changshan know I've been cursed?" I asked him quietly, recalling Changshan's previous words that seemed problematic. 0

"It seems so. Let me tell you, Brother Yi, Changshan is definitely not simple. He's just like Mai Lao—hard to read and difficult to grasp. Whether he's really a sailor is debatable; I suspect he might have been a tomb raider like me before." 0

"A tomb raider? Really?" I couldn't believe it. 0

"There's nothing impossible about it. That guy knows things that ordinary people shouldn't know. If he were just an average sailor, how could he possibly be aware of so many things that aren't even common knowledge? Not just this curse, but also those strange flowers we saw earlier—do you know what they are?" 0
