The battle had reignited, and this time, it was far more brutal than the previous two encounters. A Fourth-Rank Monster, even the lowest tier of the fourth rank, was not easy to deal with. The powerful individuals present were all Fifth-Rank, but to slay a Fourth-Rank Monster, they had to unleash their Fourth-Rank Soul Techniques.
For an average Fifth-Grade Spirit Realm Expert, releasing a Fourth-Rank Soul Technique was not a smooth task. The consumption of Soul Power was immense.
The only good news was that the Three-Eyed Snakes did not rush in all at once; instead, a dozen or so slithered in intermittently, being taken down in batches, which kept the perimeter relatively secure.
However, everyone knew this was merely an appetizer. A massive number of Three-Eyed Snakes gathered around, eyeing the human experts hungrily, flicking their tongues and waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Finally, as the Soul Power of the experts was greatly depleted, a deep and commanding roar echoed from afar. It was as if the Three-Eyed Snakes had received a command; they all lunged toward the Human Race Experts.
Over a hundred Three-Eyed Snakes surged forward, all at the late stage of the fourth rank. Within mere moments, several of them crashed into the perimeter.
Wei Chen finally set aside his spectator's mindset. As each Three-Eyed Snake approached the encirclement, nearby experts drew their weapons to slay them. Yet, compared to the number of human experts, there were simply too many snakes.
Chu Feng stood beside Wei Chen with a long knife in hand and whispered, "Brother Wei, stay calm; I will protect you."
For reasons unknown, Chu Feng patted Wei Chen on the shoulder and stepped in front of him, his expression serious as he focused on the Three-Eyed Snakes outside the circle.
Soon enough, even these powerful individuals could not withstand the onslaught of all the Three-Eyed Snakes. One snake, already battered with a large wound, broke through into the encirclement and rushed toward Wei Chen and Chu Feng.
The injured Three-Eyed Snake moved slowly due to its wound, giving Chu Feng ample time to prepare. As it coiled its tail high and opened its mouth to spray venom at Wei Chen and Chu Feng, Chu Feng ducked under the spray and slipped beneath the snake. With a swift motion of his knife, he severed the snake in half. It thrashed about for a moment before falling still.
"Chu Feng truly lives up to being the top figure among Inner Sect Disciples of Cloud Spirit Sect; his courage and timing are indeed impressive," Wei Chen thought quietly as he watched Chu Feng's performance with growing respect. Regardless of his intentions for getting close to Wei Chen, at that moment he showed no fear and displayed the demeanor and strength expected of an Inner Sect disciple.
After slaying an injured Three-Eyed Snake, Chu Feng did not show any signs of pride; instead, he became even more vigilant. He stood protectively in front of Wei Chen with his long knife ready.
But Wei Chen was not weak!
Wei Chen stepped forward to stand beside Chu Feng and smiled. "Any Three-Eyed Snake that can break into our encirclement must be severely injured. Let me take down a few as well."
Chu Feng turned to look at Wei Chen and grinned slightly. Just as he was about to say something, two Three-Eyed Snakes burst through into their circle and shot toward Chu Feng.
"Watch out!"
Wei Chen let out a loud shout, and in an instant, two streams of finger power shot forth, accurately striking the heads of the two Three-Eyed Snakes. The snake heads exploded with a thunderous sound, shattering into pieces, while the bodies of the snakes flew forward, crashing directly into Chu Feng, who had turned to look back.
The massive snake body, thick as a bowl and over ten feet long, packed a significant impact. Chu Feng felt a crack in his chest bone, as if he had been hit by a cannonball, causing him to fall backward. The two headless Three-Eyed Snakes landed on him, making him grit his teeth in pain.
Cursing under his breath, Chu Feng pushed the corpses of the Three-Eyed Snakes off him and quickly sat cross-legged. He pulled out a handful of pills and began to swallow them. A few of his ribs were broken, but thankfully they hadn’t pierced any vital organs. He hurriedly focused on recovering.
“Brother Wei, I really have to thank you this time. The Silent Extinction Finger truly lives up to its name; I admire it greatly,” Chu Feng said to Wei Chen, expressing his envy.
“It’s not that impressive. My Soul Power Realm is too low; I could only unleash one-tenth of the Silent Extinction Finger’s power,” Wei Chen replied humbly.
At that moment, the battle grew even more dangerous, leaving no room for further conversation. Occasionally, Three-Eyed Snakes charged in, only to be cut down by other young talents working together. Although there were some injuries among them, none were fatal.
Finally, after slaying the last Three-Eyed Snake, the experts on the outer circle found high ground to catch their breath. Apart from Donghua and Chu Liuxiang, everyone else looked pale. Even Chu Yu from the Spirit Realm Ninth Layer and Zhao Dahai, the master of Dominion of the Overlord Blade, along with Zixiao from Qingyi Sect, were struggling. The feeling of Soul Power depletion left them exhausted and weak.
Without anyone calling out to him, Wei Chen dashed out to search through the corpses of the Three-Eyed Snakes for Demon Cores. As a Fourth-Rank Monster, the Demon Cores were even more precious. Wei Chen was almost frenzied in his search; he didn’t care about getting his hands covered in blood as he moved swiftly from one corpse to another at a speed that left others struggling to keep up.
“Donghua’s disciple is truly extraordinary!”
“The enthusiasm for collecting Demon Cores is quite impressive.”
“Young people are formidable! Although Cloud Spirit Sect has been destroyed, with Donghua and this junior around, it won’t be long before Cloud Spirit Sect makes a comeback.”
Voices of admiration and mockery rang out. Wei Chen paid no attention; at this moment, other young talents joined him in searching for Demon Cores. He had no time to bother with those older fellows.
The number of Three-Eyed Snakes was not as plentiful as before and was soon completely scavenged. Without a doubt, Wei Chen ended up with more Demon Cores than anyone else.
Returning to the center of the area, Wei Chen sat down beside Donghua and whispered with a smug grin, “Combined together, they might not even match what I found in Demon Cores.”
The pride evident in Wei Chen's words was somewhat infuriating.
Donghua rolled his eyes and stood up to announce loudly, “What you all may not know is that Wei Chen is not my disciple; rather, I took him in as my junior brother on behalf of my master.”
Everyone was taken aback by this revelation and looked at Wei Chen with disbelief. So by seniority standards, Wei Chen could be considered a senior? At the very least, he was part of the same generation!
The hierarchy of Donghua is certainly not low.
Most people showed awkward expressions, unsure of how to address Wei Chen.
Wei Chen was completely immersed in the joy of having obtained many Demon Cores, paying no attention to this matter at all. With the Cloud Spirit Sect completely destroyed, what was there to discuss about hierarchy? He and Donghua were now like wandering souls, devoid of any rank.
Moreover, Wei Chen had little attachment to the Cloud Spirit Sect and had no intention of rebuilding it. Even Donghua, who had spent so much time in the Cloud Spirit Sect, didn't seem eager to revive its former glory.
The Soul Power of the experts had been greatly depleted; continuing onward would be tantamount to seeking death. Everyone knew that the next wave of beasts to appear would be Fifth-Rank. Dragging their exhausted bodies into a confrontation with a Fifth-Rank Monster was no different from courting disaster.
They had no idea what terrifying beasts awaited them deeper within!
The roar that had urged the Three-Eyed Snake to attack was something no one dared to contemplate.
Now, everyone understood that the operation led by the Chu Family, which had invited powerful allies from all directions, was not without purpose. Initially, some thought it was an overreaction—why bring so many strong individuals? Now they felt that their current numbers seemed far from sufficient.
As they considered the terrifying beasts they would soon face, some began to feel a rising regret about wanting to withdraw.
Once that thought took root, it surged like a flood, impossible to contain.
Some exchanged glances, understanding each other's intentions. Yet no one could take the lead in withdrawing without losing face, creating an oddly tense atmosphere.
After two hours of rest and consuming countless Soul Power Pills, their Soul Power was nearly replenished. Chu Liuxiang commanded, "Let’s continue on our journey. Everyone should support each other if we want to reap the final rewards."
Seeing Chu Liuxiang's authority, everyone resumed their trek, and those who wished to withdraw had no choice but to suppress their thoughts for now.
The miasma grew thicker; even objects three yards away became indistinct. Coupled with the dense ancient trees surrounding them, progress became exceedingly difficult. The morale of the group plummeted; gone was their earlier determination. The Antidote Pills worked well but couldn't completely fend off the miasma's encroachment. As its concentration increased, those with slightly weaker abilities began to cough lightly.
Chu Feng walked beside Wei Chen; his chest injury could not heal in such a short time, and the miasma posed an even greater challenge for him. Chu Feng's cough was loud and seemed to have a peculiar effect—many others began coughing more vigorously as well.
Wei Chen felt secretly pleased; he was still impressive, directly absorbing the miasma as nourishment for his Brahma Flower Soul.
At this moment, Wei Chen remained unaware that with the help of the Demon Lotus, his melting Brahma Flower Soul held great significance and its effects were far more than just detoxification. In the Cloud Spirit Sect, that Brahma Flower might very well be his greatest harvest.
Unbeknownst to them, an hour had passed, and they had only traveled two miles. Upon reaching a thicket dense with thorns, Wei Chen suddenly stopped and shouted, "Stop!"
Everyone turned to look at him, wondering what had startled him so much.
"There are Snake Attribute Beasts nearby; their aura is very similar to the one we encountered before. We are surrounded," Wei Chen said, his face showing anxiety but maintaining his composure.
"Young Master Wei, we haven't detected anything. Did you sense something?" a fourth-level Spirit Realm expert mocked as he looked at Wei Chen.
Wei Chen was at a loss for words and could only stand beside Donghua, his brow furrowed. "There are beasts lurking on the ground, underground, all around us, and in the air. Their rank is much higher than that of the Three-Eyed Snake we faced earlier."
"That's ridiculous! None of us can feel anything. Young Master Wei, are you just trying to scare us?"
"Perhaps he's just frightened; after all, he's young. Honestly, not wetting himself is already quite impressive."
"Donghua, is this your peer? Not much skill but quite adept at scaring people with tales of Demon Cores."
Laughter and mockery erupted as many looked at Wei Chen with disdain. However, before they could laugh for long, their smiles froze in shock and horror.
Tens of thousands of terrifying Fifth-Rank Monster auras surged from all directions simultaneously. Stripes of blue, white, and black—Tricolor Serpents—rushed toward them with a torrential assault. The number was five hundred times that of the Fifth-Rank experts present. Including Wei Chen and Donghua, they found themselves trapped in a dire situation.
"Each of you escape! Mission over!" Chu Liuxiang shouted fiercely as he grabbed Chu Feng and took off running first!
