Wei Chen hurriedly turned around. Who else could it be but Zhao Yu?
Compared to her time at the Cloud Spirit Sect, Zhao Yuqing had lost a bit of weight, but her charming face remained captivating. The plain dress could not hide her curvaceous figure, and there was a hint of maturity in her demeanor, making her appear even more radiant and enchanting.
Wei Chen stared blankly at Zhao Yu, who also widened her eyes and gazed back at him, filled with a mix of longing and joy. In their reunion, Zhao Yu held no trace of hostility towards Wei Chen.
The days of shouting and killing had faded away with the fall of the Cloud Spirit Sect.
Wei Chen looked at Zhao Yu's slightly gaunt cheeks and unconsciously took a few steps closer to stand in front of her, gazing intently at her lovely face, his arms trembling slightly.
Zhao Yu sensed Wei Chen's intentions. After such a long separation, how could she not desire a hug?
She lowered her head, her ears turning slightly red—an unspoken consent.
Wei Chen's heart raced as he was about to embrace Zhao Yu when suddenly a young man stepped forward, standing beside Zhao Yu. He glared at Wei Chen with an unfriendly expression and sneered, "So you are Wei Chen?"
Wei Chen retracted his outstretched arms. Disrupted in his moment of happiness, he felt extremely displeased and replied harshly, "I am. Who are you to come out from some corner?"
"Heh heh, Wei Chen, back when you were at the Cloud Spirit Sect, did you ever consider my existence while bullying members of the Wang Family?"
The man looked down on Wei Chen. Upon hearing the name Wang Jian, Wei Chen immediately thought, "Could it be the ace among the Core Disciples, Wang Jian?"
Core Disciples of the Cloud Spirit Sect were all at least in the Fate Soul Realm. As a Core Disciple, Wang Jian must possess considerable strength within the high ranks of the Fate Soul Realm.
"Even against a Spirit Realm Expert, if I find the right opportunity, I can kill them. What’s more for Wang Jian in the high ranks of Fate Soul Realm?" Wei Chen thought to himself as he coldly sneered, "You people from the Wang Family really are hard to shake off."
"I thought that with the destruction of the Cloud Spirit Sect, you would surely be dead. I didn't expect to run into you here; what a narrow road for enemies!"
"I also thought I wouldn’t have another chance to teach those scoundrels from the Wang Family a lesson. Yet here you are, appearing before me without any effort." Wei Chen was extremely irritated by Wang Jian's appearance. Even though he had no prior grievances with Wang Jian and had never suffered under anyone from the Wang Family, he could not tolerate Wang Jian standing next to Zhao Yu.
Wang Jian and Zhao Yu were certainly not here by coincidence; they must have escaped together to Eryuan City. How many opportunities would they have had to be alone during their journey?
Wei Chen's anger surged uncontrollably as he fixed his cold, piercing gaze on Wang Jian.
"We are all members of the Cloud Spirit Sect; we should be happy to see each other again. Why the hostility?" Zhao Yu stepped forward to mediate.
"The Cloud Spirit Sect has been destroyed," Wang Jian replied icily.
"That's right. To me, you don't even count for anything," Wei Chen said, not hiding his scorn, his tone dripping with disdain.
"Very well," Wang Jian nodded fiercely. "Once this is over, let's go out and have some fun, shall we?"
"That’s exactly what I had in mind," Wei Chen agreed. Fighting inside Fuyuan Trading Company was unrealistic; breaking anything would lead to hefty compensation.
Seeing that the situation had temporarily calmed down, the shrewd Zhu, the Shopkeeper, approached Wei Chen with cupped fists and respectfully said, "Friend, please follow me to the third floor to collect your silver notes."
"Please lead the way," Wei Chen replied politely. He then turned to Zhao Yu, unsure of her thoughts, and took her delicate hand in his large one, pulling her along as he followed Zhu.
Zhao Yu felt as if her hand was caught in a vice grip; no matter how she struggled, it was futile. She shot Wei Chen a fierce glare but gradually relaxed her grip and stopped resisting.
"You hurt me!" Zhao Yu's ears turned red as she kept her head down, her voice barely above a whisper.
Wei Chen subtly loosened his grip.
Trailing behind them, Wang Jian's eyes blazed with fury as he glared at Wei Chen's back, as if he wanted to devour him whole.
"Damn it! I went through so much trouble to rescue Zhao Yu from the Cloud Spirit Sect and made my way to Eryuan City only to run into this bastard!" Wang Jian's heart bled with jealousy as he glanced at their intertwined hands, consumed by rage.
"Can someone tell me what the hell is going on? Zhao Yu actually likes that bastard?"
Wang Jian clenched his fists tightly, his face pale as a sheet. He had not experienced the peak battle at the Cloud Spirit Sect and thus had not witnessed the closeness between Wei Chen and Zhao Yu.
On that day, he had been in seclusion in a hidden chamber, trying to break through to the Fate Soul Realm and reach the Power Realm level. When the battle at the Cloud Spirit Sect erupted, he was awakened just as it was ending. He saw Zhao Yu surrounded by several soldiers from Sui Kingdom and rescued her. They escaped to Wushuang City and used a Teleportation Array to reach Jinling City before finally arriving in Eryuan City, where they managed to find temporary stability.
"I thought that after sharing joys and sorrows, Zhao Yu would eventually be mine!"
"I thought that Zhao Yu's rejection was merely due to the short amount of time we had together!"
"Who would have known that the one she truly liked was this Bastard!"
Wang Jian's eyes were bloodshot as he stared at Wei Chen's back. His fists clenched and relaxed repeatedly, dozens of times, as he turned a few corners and climbed the stairs to the third floor.
The flow of people on the third floor of Fuyuan Trading Company was not small, but it was clearly less than that on the first floor. The first floor catered to ordinary customers, while the second floor was accessible only to those involved with Soul Warriors. As for the third floor, only those brought by members of the Merchant Guild could come up here.
Zhu, the Shopkeeper, quickly processed the paperwork for a batch of Demon Cores and handed Wei Chen two million silver notes, saying, "Friend, this is the money I owe you. Please take it. If you wish to purchase Soul Techniques, I can take you up to the fourth floor; there are no Soul Techniques sold on the third floor."
Zhao Yu couldn't help but be astonished; Wei Chen was so wealthy!
Wang Jian's expression darkened even further. He had just sold a third-grade Demon Core for only sixty thousand silver notes, thinking it would sustain him and Zhao Yu for a while...
Now it seemed that Zhao Yu didn't need him at all. In fact, since Wei Chen appeared, Zhao Yu hadn't even glanced at him!
"How much does an ordinary fourth-grade Soul Technique cost?" Wei Chen casually asked.
Zhu, the Shopkeeper, squinted and smiled. "An ordinary fourth-grade Soul Technique sells for around ten million silver notes."
"Uh..." Wei Chen was taken aback. Ten million silver notes?
"I have a Fifth-Rank Soul Skill here; how much do you think it's worth?" Wei Chen had no choice but to barter. He not only needed Soul Techniques and various elixirs for himself but also for the woman beside him.
After finally finding Zhao Yu and achieving a harmonious atmosphere without fighting or arguing, he couldn't bear to put her in a difficult position again.
"Fifth-Rank Soul Jade!" Zhu, the Shopkeeper's eyes widened upon seeing what Wei Chen held. He quickly arranged for Wei Chen and his companions to be treated well and then hurried off without a trace.
It must have been because the Fifth-Rank Soul Jade was too astonishing for him to make decisions on his own!
"Wei Chen, how could you bear to sell such a high-grade Soul Jade? If you're really short on money, I still have some here," Zhao Yu said without hesitation, pulling out a stack of banknotes and stuffing them into Wei Chen's hands. The amount wasn't large, totaling only around thirty to forty thousand taels.
For Wei Chen, that was merely a drop in the bucket. Yet the depth of her feelings moved him greatly.
"Is this all the money you have?" Wei Chen asked inexplicably.
Zhao Yu nodded, unsure of what Wei Chen meant.
Wei Chen tucked the stack of banknotes Zhao Yu had given him into his pocket and smiled lightly. "From now on, as long as you follow me, you won't go hungry."
Zhao Yu's face flushed red, but she quickly put on a fierce expression. "Have you forgotten? I want to kill you with my own hands!"
"I actually forgot. But now that you've reminded me, I remember. It's just that someone seems reluctant to kill me," Wei Chen replied with a grin.
Zhao Yu fell silent. Since leaving the Cloud Spirit Sect until now, the only shadow lingering in her mind was that of Wei Chen. The initial hatred transformed into indifference, which later turned into concern and finally longing; she had endured so much.
When they met again, Zhao Yu realized that deep down, apart from joy and resentment, there was no trace of hatred left.
Could she still hate him?
Zhao Yu looked up at Wei Chen and saw a slightly youthful yet handsome and comforting face. She thought to herself that being with this extraordinary young man would surely make for an exciting future.
Unbeknownst to her, a hint of tenderness rose in Zhao Yu's eyes. As their gazes met, it felt as if there were countless unspoken words between them.
Wang Jian glared at Wei Chen and Zhao Yu with malicious intent, thinking to himself, "This bitch has forgotten who saved her? Once I kill Wei Chen and have my fun with you, I'll send you off to the brothel!"
His fury simmered beneath the surface, but Wang Jian's murderous intent did not escape Wei Chen's perception. Without needing to look, Wei Chen knew there were sinister eyes fixated on him.
But did he need to care?
"The Fate Soul Realm is at the ninth level—just six realms above me. If they dare provoke me, I'll take them down," Wei Chen thought coldly. He chose not to pay attention to what Wang Jian was doing; encountering Zhao Yu here was already the greatest gain from his trip to Eryuan City.
A plump, smiling man approached, his bald head shining and his eyebrows shaved clean. His eyes were squinted into narrow slits, giving him the appearance of a round ball.
"This is Wei Chenyu," Zhu, the Shopkeeper, introduced him to the man. "He is the head of our Merchant Guild headquarters, nicknamed Drunkard. Matters concerning Fifth-Rank Soul Skills are beyond my authority; it's usually Drunkard who handles those." Wei Chenyu nodded with a smile, neither overly flattering nor coldly distant.
Drunkard's eyes scanned Wei Chenyu and his companions. He barely glanced at Wang Jian, gave Wei Chenyu only a cursory look, but his gaze lingered on Zhao Yu with an odd intensity, as if he were appraising her from head to toe.
Seeing this, Wei Chenyu furrowed his brow and glared at Drunkard.
Drunkard cleared his throat awkwardly and cupped his hands in greeting to Wei Chenyu. "Please don't misunderstand. This young lady resembles an old acquaintance of mine so closely that I couldn't help but take a few extra looks. I apologize for any discomfort."
Then, Drunkard's gaze returned to Zhao Yu, growing even more peculiar. "This young lady looks just like Sister Three did when she was younger. Could it be...?"
"Oh?" Wei Chenyu relaxed slightly at this revelation. He sensed that Drunkard's scrutiny was more analytical than the typical admiration a man might show upon seeing a beautiful woman.
"Miss, may I have a word with you?" Drunkard's interest in Zhao Yu was significantly greater than in Wei Chenyu. Fifth-Rank Soul Skills were not uncommon, but finding relatives from one's clan was much rarer.
Zhao Yu looked at Wei Chenyu with a questioning expression. He nodded, reassuring her that nothing untoward would happen in such a place.
Thanking Wei Chenyu, Drunkard led the somewhat anxious Zhao Yu to a more secluded area. After pondering for a moment, he asked, "Miss, I assure you I mean no harm. I am older than your parents; if I seem presumptuous, please forgive me."
