In Wei Chen's hand, a Golden Seal began to coalesce once more.
His Soul Power could still sustain the casting of a Golden Seal!
Yang Jian sensed the dangerous aura, his expression shifting slightly. He looked deeply at Wei Chen and said, "Your combat strength is not weak at all; in the Spirit Realm, you could be considered invincible."
"I’ve been through this before. Don’t provoke me. My Soul Power is running low, but it wouldn’t be difficult to injure you."
"Indeed."
Yang Jian nodded. The ability to cast a Sixth-Rank Advanced Soul Technique was something he had never anticipated. Wang Lin had already suffered a significant loss, buried in the ground and unconscious. His own Soul Power Realm was not much higher than Wang Lin's.
"We can't kill you. The next batch of people will be even stronger; you won't escape in the end," Yang Jian said calmly.
"Let’s cross that bridge when we come to it. I have never feared anyone. Sooner or later, your Elder Wu will die at my hands, and that day isn’t far off," Wei Chen replied, unafraid of Yang Jian's threat.
"I can choose not to intervene because I have already battled you once and lost."
Yang Jian's gaze was fixed intently on Wei Chen, waiting for his response.
Wei Chen smiled and nodded, "Alright."
He understood Yang Jian's meaning; smart people didn’t need too many words.
With Wei Chen's affirmative response, Yang Jian raised his heavy sword high and plunged it fiercely into Wang Lin's heart.
Wang Lin fell silent, dying on the spot.
After completing this act, Yang Jian cupped his fist towards Wei Chen and flew away.
“Master Wei, you truly are impressive. The Sixth-Rank Advanced Soul Technique—I have practiced a similar one, but with my current strength, I cannot withstand the internal energy that comes from using the Sixth-Rank Advanced Soul Technique. If I were to force it, it wouldn't just result in internal injuries; I might even lose my life.”
Zhou Wu stepped forward, his expression serious as he looked at Wei Chen, admiration evident in his eyes.
Only true strong individuals earn respect, and Wei Chen was undoubtedly such a person. While his Soul Power Realm wasn't particularly strong, his combat ability was extraordinarily terrifying.
Seeing Zhou Wu, Wei Chen smiled lightly and said, “Brother Zhou, you flatter me. I won’t be using another Golden Seal; it was merely for show.”
Zhou Wu chuckled, not taking offense. Wei Chen's display had earned his respect, and that was enough.
The two returned to the camp where the caravan was stationed. When Qian the Shopkeeper saw Wei Chen return empty-handed, he didn’t dare to ask too many questions.
A night passed without incident, and the next day they continued their journey.
Wei Chen noticed that in the middle of the caravan, there was a special carriage that seemed to carry no goods. The wheels left little mark on the muddy ground, while the other carriages were heavily loaded with deep wheel imprints.
However, Qian the Shopkeeper didn’t inquire about it either; it wasn’t appropriate for him to ask questions. The role of a guest elder was simply to guard the caravan and ensure that the valuable goods on board remained safe.
Few dared to rob goods from Dingsheng Trading Company, but it wasn’t unheard of. Almost every year there were a few incidents; without the help of guest elders, those guards alone would find it easy for goods to be stolen. Along the road from Xiaoguan City to Ling City, brutish bandits were not uncommon.
Generally speaking, when guest elders were present, bandits would choose to retreat. The more valuable goods were always protected by guest elders, making them impossible for bandits to steal.
With two guest elders in the caravan this time, Qian the Shopkeeper felt quite at ease and had no worries about bandit attacks.
“Stop!”
Zhou Wu’s voice rang out as the caravan came to a neat halt.
Wei Chen exited his carriage and flew over to Zhou Wu’s side, asking, “Brother Zhou, what’s wrong?”
"Pay close attention; there’s an ambush ahead."
Indeed, Wei Chen sensed some faint fluctuations of Soul Power, as if something formidable was concealed beneath the Last Chance.
Qian the Shopkeeper hurried over, a look of concern on his face. "Last Chance is the only route from Xiaoguan City to Ling City and is also where the Brutes are most concentrated. The two mountain ranges converge at Last Chance, forming a path no more than three meters wide, which has always been a battleground for military forces."
"Whoever occupies Last Chance holds the greatest advantage. They can rob merchant caravans here, and very few can escape unscathed."
"The various groups of Brutes around often fight over control of Last Chance. Currently, it is held by the Sand Wolf Gang. Their leader, Sand Wolf, is exceptionally powerful; any merchant caravan he sets his sights on never escapes unscathed—either they are completely annihilated or forced to pay a hefty tribute as a toll."
Once Qian the Shopkeeper finished speaking, he seemed less anxious. He pointed to the second cart in line. "That cart is loaded with valuable goods. If it truly is the Sand Wolf Gang, then just giving them the goods will suffice; there's no need to fight back."
Zhou Wu snorted coldly and retorted, "Qian the Shopkeeper, do you look down on the strength of our guest warriors? With us here, even if it comes down to the last man standing, we will not let the dignity of Dingsheng Trading Company’s guests be tarnished!"
Qian the Shopkeeper smiled awkwardly and quickly apologized profusely.
"This cargo is extremely important; we cannot afford any mishaps! If anything goes wrong, Sister Qingya will surely annihilate my entire clan," Qian the Shopkeeper thought anxiously.
"The convoy will stay put; let’s go take a look."
With that, Zhou Wu took the lead and flew toward Last Chance. Wei Chen closely followed him. After their battle last night, although Zhou Wu hadn’t fought directly, Wei Chen had developed a favorable impression of him for being able to keep pace.
The two flew side by side at a slow pace until they reached the entrance of Last Chance. From a distance, they could see steep cliffs rising on either side, with only a narrow gap in between that seemed endless.
The presence of Soul Power was becoming increasingly apparent.
"Let’s go up and check if there are any ambushes at the top of the cliff. It’s easy to dodge an open attack but hard to guard against hidden arrows."
Zhou Wu called out to Wei Chen and led the way up into the sky. From above, they could see lush greenery covering the cliff top for miles on end, making it impossible to discern where an ambush might be hidden.
“Wei Young Master, if the bandits are lying in wait at the top of the cliff, setting up traps with rolling stones, and they manage to send those stones or even oil down when the convoy enters, the consequences would be unimaginable. The entire convoy, except for you and me, would likely be completely wiped out,” Zhou Wu expressed his concerns.
Wei Chen nodded. In the convoy, only he and Zhou Wu could fly; the others were unable to.
“All the goods are just money; losing them is no big deal. Dingsheng Trading Company is wealthy enough not to care about those losses. But if something happens to that girl in the carriage, it would be a huge problem.”
“The girl?”
“Yes, if I’m not mistaken, she should be Sister Qingya’s younger sister. She left Ling City six months ago to receive treatment in Xiaoguan City, and I don’t know if she has recovered yet.”
“Why not use the Teleportation Array?” Wei Chen asked in surprise.
“Sister Qingya’s sister is frail and has no cultivation ability; she can’t withstand the pressure of the Teleportation Array. She can only travel by carriage. There’s a place in Xiaoguan City called Fire Spring, which is a hot spring that flows from the depths of the fire Giant Pit, known for its healing properties. She must be returning to Ling City now, so she must have recovered.”
Having spent a long time at Dingsheng Trading Company, Zhou Wu knew quite a bit of information. Wei Chen was completely unaware of this; if it weren’t for Zhou Wu’s reminder, he would never have known so many hidden details.
Elegant has another sister?
After a moment of silence, Zhou Wu asked, “Wei Young Master, what do you plan to do?”
“If we search deeper for ambushes, we might actually fall into the enemy's trap. They could gather their forces at Last Chance, waiting for us to arrive; then their men could charge out from below. If we fail to rescue in time, it would become even more troublesome. It’s better for us to return and guard the merchant convoy,” Wei Chen replied.
Zhou Wu looked at Wei Chen with admiration and gave him a thumbs up, saying, “Wei Young Master, you truly are remarkable at such a young age; I am impressed.”
“This guy has strong combat abilities and excellent talent; it’s rare for someone so capable to also have such sharp wits. Sister Qingya has indeed found a good Fellow this time,” Zhou Wu thought to himself.
“It’s nothing special, just basic analysis. I’m sure Brother Zhou has noticed it too, right?”
“Yes, but when I was your age, honestly, I couldn’t compare to you in any aspect,” Zhou Wu remarked with admiration.
"Brother Zhou, it's getting dark, and we don't have enough time to pass through Last Chance. Why don't we wait for a night? Tomorrow we'll have plenty of time to set off," Wei Chen suggested.
Zhou Wu thought for a moment and agreed.
The convoy set up camp, and after having a meal, Wei Chen approached Zhou Wu.
"Brother Zhou, I'm going to check the situation over there. You stay here and protect the convoy."
"Alright, be careful."
Zhou Wu was not one to fuss; he understood the importance of priorities. Staying behind to protect the convoy was indeed the best choice.
Wei Chen slowly flew toward Last Chance. Once he was out of Zhou Wu's sight, the wings of Fire Phoenix on his back gradually became clearer. With a glide, Wei Chen's body reached a hundred meters away.
"Last Chance stretches for several miles. At my speed, a round trip won't take much time, but there might be formations, so it's better to be cautious."
Wei Chen entered Last Chance, moving slowly along the ground as he ventured deeper.
After traveling two or three miles in, Wei Chen felt as if he had passed through something. He suddenly stopped and looked up as a rumbling sound came from above.
"Paralyze! Falling rocks!"
In just a few breaths, large boulders began to tumble down. Wei Chen quickly turned around and flew back the way he came. However, the area where the rocks were falling was far too extensive; Brute was well-prepared. Wei Chen weaved through the falling stones, appearing extremely flustered.
"If the convoy enters now, aside from me and Zhou Wu, it would be a complete disaster! This isn't just robbery; it's outright slaughter!"
Wei Chen flew out of Last Chance in panic, and it took a full half-minute before the sound of falling rocks ceased.
"Wei Young Master, are you alright?"
Zhou Wu flew over and stood shoulder to shoulder with Wei Chen.
Wei Chen nodded and said, "I encountered a formation that triggered falling boulders. Brother Zhou, you should go back and guard the convoy. I'll go in and activate all the formations they set up. By tomorrow, it will be much safer."
"Let me handle it. You just became a guest elder of Dingsheng Trading Company; I can't just watch you take risks," Zhou Wu replied seriously.
Wei Chen shook his head. "No need for that. Brother Zhou, it's better for you to stay with the convoy. Don't worry, I won't get into trouble."
Thinking about how Wei Chen could single-handedly defeat a strong opponent from the Spirit Wisdom Realm, Zhou Wu figured he must have some advantages. Not wanting to say more, he patted Wei Chen on the shoulder and flew back.
Wei Chen re-entered Last Chance. After flying five miles in, he triggered the formation again, causing boulders to fall once more. With the experience from the first time, Wei Chen remained calm and retreated several hundred meters to a critical point, hovering in the air as he watched the boulders crash down into Last Chance.
Once the boulders settled, Wei Chen ventured deeper and quickly triggered a new formation. After several trips back and forth, he covered the entire stretch of Last Chance, dismantling all the formations.
"The road is now blocked by boulders. To clear this path with the people in the convoy could take even a month; it would be difficult to create a route for them to pass."
"I wonder how many Brutes there are. They should be responsible for removing these stones themselves."
A cold smile appeared on Wei Chen's face as he moved swiftly to hover above Last Chance.
As soon as he revealed himself, three burly men surrounded him.
