Wei Chen was taken aback, looking at Yue Songyang's expression. Could there be more to the story?
"The Ancestor Xu Elder and the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming may have already broken free from the constraints of the Endless Divine Realm. Since he was able to get ahead of the other Supreme Gods, it must mean that back when he battled Yue Songyang, he was significantly stronger than him," Wei Chen thought to himself.
After pondering for a moment, Wei Chen turned to Yue Songyang and clasped his fists, saying, "I would like to hear more details."
A nostalgic look appeared on Yue Songyang's face as he replied, "Back in the day when I fought the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming, I could clearly feel that I was no match for him. He had me completely suppressed. He simply gave me face and didn't defeat me outright, creating an illusion of a fair fight. In reality, I was no opponent for him at all. With the Divine King Token in hand, how could our ordinary Sixth-Level Deities compete with them?"
"The Supreme Deity of Southern Ming appreciated my potential, which is why he held back. He wanted to draw me into his camp in this way. However, as a member of the Temple of Martial Arts, I could never join his Sea Palace, so it ended without resolution. But the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming has maintained some contact with me since then. In the entire Southern Ming Divine Domain, I am probably the only one who has caught his eye."
As Yue Songyang spoke up to this point, a bitter expression crossed his face. Being appreciated by someone was a good thing, but he held himself in high regard and felt somewhat strange about it now.
Wei Chen listened to Yue Songyang's explanation without much reaction. Neither Yue Songyang nor Qian Youshi were from his side; he didn't know what they wanted from him and chose to remain silent, letting them take the initiative. If he asked first, he would lose the upper hand and that was obvious.
Qian Youshi and Yue Songyang exchanged glances and silently communicated. They hadn't expected Wei Chen to be so cool-headed, not asking anything at all.
After their silent exchange, Qian Youshi spoke up directly, "Wei Chen, let's not beat around the bush. Within the Temple of Martial Arts, there are two distinct factions. Although you were recruited by Jin Ge and Gongye Long and they offered you some benefits, those are merely superficial. If you agree to join our faction and work for us, we can promise you substantial benefits—real benefits that will help you rapidly enhance your strength."
"Ha ha, Qian Youshi, you seem to be underestimating me a bit. I don't want to get involved in your competition. However, since it was Old Master and the Grand Elder who brought me to the Temple of Martial Arts, I should stand by their side. I've already been drawn into this situation and there's no way for me to resolve it now. But rest assured, I won't fight against you; that's something you can count on. I have no intention of getting involved in battles; on the surface, I'm aligned with them. If you want my help, that's absolutely impossible; I can't do that."
Wei Chen's words were firm and clear. As for the so-called substantial benefits, Wei Chen didn't even bother asking; it wasn't due to lack of interest but rather a desire to avoid trouble.
Qian Youshi and Yue Songyang exchanged another glance and shook their heads slightly. Wei Chen's immediate refusal without even inquiring about what benefits were offered took them by surprise.
"Don't you want to ask us what we can offer you?" Qian Youshi hesitated for a moment before asking.
Wei Chen shook his head and replied, "I don't want to know. What is meant to be will be; what is not meant for me should not be forced upon me. Why should I ask about things that aren't mine?"
Wei Chen's resolute stance left Qian Youshi and Yue Songyang feeling completely disheartened about persuading him.
However, they were somewhat satisfied with Wei Chen's response; he declared that he wouldn't help Old Master or Grand Elder Gongye Long fight against them—this meant he was neutral. Qian Youshi and Yue Songyang secretly rejoiced at this outcome; they thought about how much those two old fellows had invested only to receive nominal gains—it truly was quite unfortunate.
At the same time, they realized that Wei Chen wasn't genuinely interested in joining the Temple of Martial Arts or contributing to it; that much was clear. Yet Wei Chen wasn't there to cause trouble either. To Yue Songyang and Qian Youshi's perspective, Wei Chen was an enigmatic figure who had come to the Temple of Martial Arts with a purpose—they just didn't know what that purpose was.
Wei Chen had acquired so many high-level Mental Attack Techniques from the Memory Stone that both Yue Songyang and Qian Youshi couldn't help but admire him inwardly. At the very least, Wei Chen's Mental Strength far surpassed theirs. When they accessed the Memory Stone themselves, they couldn't possibly have seen so many Mental Attack Techniques.
"Although you don't want to know," Qian Youshi continued after a pause, "we think it's fine to tell you anyway: we can offer tremendous benefits that will allow your strength to soar because Vice Master is currently tracking down traces of fire in the Ying Qin Empire."
"Fire?" Wei Chen looked confused. It was the first time he had heard this term; before this, he had never encountered the word "fire."
Qian Youshi nodded and said, "You don't know what fire is, do you?"
"I don't know," Wei Chen replied honestly. There was no need to pretend; he had only been in the Endless Divine Realm for a short time, and it wasn't embarrassing to admit ignorance.
Qian Youshi smiled and explained, "Fire is a powerful force born from the land of the Endless Divine Realm. Once refined and absorbed, it can lead to a tremendous increase in strength. This is something that Hall Master and the Grand Elder are unaware of. We are acting independently on this matter; we certainly won't let others take advantage of it."
With that, Qian Youshi glanced meaningfully at Wei Chen.
Wei Chen understood what Qian Youshi meant. The principle of business is that when a secret is shared, it should not be sold to others.
"Don't worry, I won't," Wei Chen assured Qian Youshi and Yue Songyang with a nod, expressing his stance. Some things should remain buried in one's heart.
Yue Songyang said lightly, "Wei Chen, you might not yet understand the power of fire. Possessing fire can elevate your combat power to rival that of a Supreme God, and in some respects, you could even surpass them. Fire is not just something we desire; all eighteen Supreme Gods want it as well. However, fire is hard to find. I was lucky enough to discover one. Over at the Ying Qin Empire, the Supreme Gods and Major Forces are still unaware of its existence. After the Eastern Forest Contest concludes, we would like to invite you to join us in vying for the fire. What do you think?"
Upon hearing this, Wei Chen fell into deep thought. While it sounded appealing, the problem was that there was only one fire—could it truly belong to him? Would he be able to obtain it?
Wei Chen lacked confidence unless he revealed all his cards. That was a situation he did not wish to see.
However, since there was such a Divine Vessel, even if it were just to broaden his horizons, it wouldn't be a bad idea.
After contemplating for a while, Wei Chen concluded that there was no harm in going along with them. He smiled and said, "Alright then, I'll go with you. But if I leave the Temple of Martial Arts with you, Hall Master might become suspicious."
"You currently hold first-class merit in the Temple of Martial Arts; truly, we have no authority over you anymore. All places within the Temple of Martial Arts are open to you. All disciples must obey your commands. You can go wherever you like without needing approval from the Temple of Martial Arts. After this Eastern Forest Contest, you can head to Ying Qin Empire first; we will catch up with you later. This way, Hall Master won't find out and there won't be any trouble," Qian Youshi suggested.
Wei Chen felt pleasantly surprised; this was the first time he had learned from someone at the core high levels of the Temple of Martial Arts about his current status—it was indeed quite powerful.
"That's great! I can also visit Ying Qin Empire and experience its culture," Wei Chen paused and looked at Qian Youshi and Yue Songyang before asking casually, "But I want to know why you're looking for me?"
"What benefits do I bring to your quest for fire? Aren't you afraid that I might end up obtaining it?"
Qian Youshi laughed and said, "Fire cannot simply be obtained through brute force; your mastery of formations gives us hope. In fact, if you hadn't demonstrated such strong skills in formations, even if you were a Sixth-Level Deity, we wouldn't have invited you."
"As for whether you obtain the fire or not, we don't mind at all; fire naturally belongs to those who are worthy. Generally speaking, it's unattainable—no one can hope to possess it," Qian Youshi added.
Wei Chen was puzzled; how could no one obtain it?
"Qian Youshi, can you be a bit clearer?" Wei Chen asked Qian Youshi.
Yue Songyang chimed in, saying, "Let me explain. Fire is extremely difficult to capture. If you manage to catch fire, we would all celebrate you. Our goal is merely to gather the scattered wildfires from where the fire resides. Obtaining those wildfires would significantly boost our strength. As for the fire itself, we can't even imagine how powerful it would be if we could refine and absorb true fire."
"The strength of fire is something you cannot fathom right now; it possesses the power to devastate the land. In my opinion, even if all eighteen Supreme Gods joined forces, there would be no possibility of obtaining true fire. There was once an instance where the Eighteen Supreme Gods worked together against fire, but unfortunately, they still let it escape, resulting in even more Fire Shards being scattered. Those shards are incredibly precious treasures."
"We do not aspire to obtain true fire; the chances are nearly zero, almost impossible. Do you understand now, White Out?"
Yue Songyang had explained it clearly enough that Wei Chen couldn't possibly misunderstand.
He nodded and asked, "Then how do we get Fire Shards?"
"One word: attack," Yue Songyang smiled and continued. "We must exert all our strength to strike at the fire, forcing it out of its long-held position. In that area, we can obtain Fire Shards. Of course, if our strength is sufficient—like when the Eighteen Supreme Gods work together—we could damage the fire and acquire even more Fire Shards."
After listening to Yue Songyang and Qian Youshi, Wei Chen began to feel curious about the fire. Such a miraculous entity deserved his attention.
"Honestly, I'm very curious and want to see it for myself. I will go, but I can't guarantee how much help I can provide. After all, the way you describe the fire makes it sound incredibly powerful; I doubt my formations would be of much use," Wei Chen said calmly.
Qian Youshi replied, "It’s nothing; with everyone working together, any help counts. Having one more person adds to our strength. We trust you enough to share this matter about fire with you, and we hope you won't let us down."
"Don't worry," Wei Chen nodded, saying little more.
