After a long while, the Elder of the Xiaoxiang Sword Sect opened his eyes.
He put away the crystal communication stone and said to Wei Chen, "Wei Chenyu, the Master has tentatively agreed to provide you with the Formation Blueprint, but..."
"You may speak, Third Elder. We will do our utmost if it is within our capabilities. If not, we will have no complaints," Wei Chen replied earnestly.
The Third Elder nodded and said, "The Master has decided that the Twelve-Tier Defensive Formation is a closely guarded secret of the Xiaoxiang Sword Sect and cannot be shared under normal circumstances. We use this formation ourselves because we are concerned that if it falls into enemy hands, our defensive measures would be rendered useless."
"However, we are deeply grateful for what you did in the Golden Clan Secret Realm. Therefore, the Master can provide you with the Formation Blueprint, but you must agree to three conditions," the Third Elder stated calmly.
Wei Chen smiled and said, "I am all ears."
The Third Elder continued, "The first condition is that you or the Endless Divine Realm must provide a Twelve-Grade Divine Stone as payment for acquiring the formation."
A Twelve-Grade Divine Stone was worth about the same as the Divine Iron Wei Chen had obtained from Tong Inn. It wasn't expensive; in this realm, one could not exchange a Twelve-Grade Divine Stone for a Twelve-Tiered Formation. After all, one was a consumable resource while the other was a long-term formation—such an exchange was impossible.
"Third Elder, we do not have a Twelve-Grade Divine Stone. Can we convert it into another unit?" Wei Chen asked.
The Third Elder nodded and said, "That works."
"Alright, I can agree to this condition," Wei Chen replied.
The Third Elder added, "The second condition is an indefinite obligation. Whenever you acquire something of twelve-grade quality—regardless of what it is—you must provide a share to us at Xiaoxiang Sword Sect. This could be a treasured sword, battle techniques, spiritual herbs, and so on."
"Indefinite obligation?" Wei Chen was puzzled by what that meant.
The Third Elder explained, "It means that it's an agreement; when you obtain such items in the future, you will give us a share. Asking you to provide something now would be too much to ask."
Wei Chen understood and nodded in agreement. "Alright."
"The third condition is related to the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming," the Third Elder said, casting a deep glance at Wei Chen.
Wei Chen replied, "Supreme Deity of Southern Ming? Let me see if I can make a decision."
"When we were in the Golden Clan Secret Realm, I noticed that your subordinate, the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming, was somewhat special. It seemed that there was a Beast Clan Bloodline hidden within him. After I relayed this information back, the Xiaoxiang Sword Sect initiated an investigation and learned about the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming's background, his relationship with the Golden Clan, and his ties to the Beast Clan. Essentially, we at the Xiaoxiang Sword Sect have gathered some knowledge about him. Because of this, we place great importance on the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming."
The Third Elder paused before continuing, "The third condition is that the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming must make a promise."
"What kind of promise?" Wei Chen asked with a frown.
He thought that if it was too difficult, he could simply refuse. No matter what, the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming was considered a brother; he couldn't let his brother be put in a difficult position. It was acceptable to pay a material price for the formation, but if it involved his brother, that wouldn't do.
The Third Elder said, "If possible, if the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming can return to his maternal lineage, he must help us at the Xiaoxiang Sword Sect obtain an Ascension Order."
"Ascension Order?" Wei Chen frowned. "What is that?"
"Wei Chenyu, this request involves many complex matters. It would be better for the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming to come over and negotiate together," the Third Elder replied calmly.
Wei Chen immediately instructed Ying Qin Supreme Deity to make a trip to Dinglong Mountain and bring the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming over.
Moments later, the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming arrived.
With Ying Qin Supreme Deity present and possessing the ability to traverse through space, these matters became incredibly convenient.
"Greetings, Master," the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming respectfully saluted Wei Chen.
"Wei Chen," he said lightly, "the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming and the Elder of the Xiaoxiang Sword Sect have something to discuss with you."
"I would like to hear the details," the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming replied, nodding at the Third Elder as a form of greeting, his demeanor neither warm nor cold.
Seeing the Supreme Deity's attitude towards Wei Chen, the Third Elder understood that today's matter was settled.
He explained the need for defensive formations and the conditions set forth by the Master of the Xiaoxiang Sword Sect, then added, "Supreme Deity of Southern Ming, the third condition is closely related to you; we need your commitment."
The Supreme Deity of Southern Ming looked puzzled. "Third Elder, I do not understand what your requirements are."
The term "Ascension Order" sounded impressive, but the Supreme Deity was hesitant to make any rash promises.
The Third Elder continued, "Supreme Deity of Southern Ming, let me ask you first: do you wish to acknowledge your ancestry? You can no longer be part of the Golden Clan; they will not accept you. After all, your bloodline is quite ordinary compared to theirs, as the beast clans dominate."
"I have no plans for that at the moment, but if my mother is still alive, I will definitely go see her," the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming replied calmly.
"That’s exactly it. Your maternal lineage belongs to an immortal clan, a royal family in this realm. The status of the immortal clan is such that no one dares to provoke them. More importantly, your clan holds the power to ascend to the Great Realm."
"So, that is what is meant by the Ascension Order!"
Upon hearing the Elder of the Xiaoxiang Sword Sect's words, both Wei Chen and the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming were left bewildered, feeling completely lost due to their lack of understanding.
The Supreme Deity asked, "Third Elder, please clarify; I do not grasp your matters at all."
"Alright," the Third Elder chuckled and nodded. After a brief pause to gather his thoughts, he said, "Supreme Deity of Southern Ming, your lineage is that of an immortal clan. First and foremost, are you clear on this point?"
"I have a rough idea," the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming replied lightly.
The Third Elder continued, "The Undying Clan is very united, extremely united, and their numbers are very few. According to the information we obtained from Tong Inn, your mother is of royal blood within the Undying Clan. Otherwise, your Undying Bloodline wouldn't be so strong. The Undying Clan is similar to the Golden Clan in that they do not allow intermarriage with outsiders. Because of this, your father was executed by the Golden Clan, and after your mother returned to the Undying Clan, she faced blame from the royals. There was no escaping that. However, being a princess of royal status, your mother is safe and sound; there are no major issues."
"The Undying Clan has issued a notice to the top forces in our realm: whoever can return you to the Undying Clan and persuade you to sever ties with the Golden Clan and join the Undying Clan, acknowledging your ancestry, will receive an Ascension Order."
"While you are in the Endless Divine Realm, no one can find you. Over time, this matter has been overlooked by the higher-ups in our realm. They believe that you are more likely to willingly join the Golden Clan alongside your father, making it very difficult for you to voluntarily return to the Undying Clan."
"Our Xiaoxiang Sword Sect stands to benefit from this situation. If you are willing to return to the Undying Clan, then as long as you acknowledge that our Xiaoxiang Sword Sect played a role in your return, we will be immensely grateful if the Undying Clan grants us the Ascension Order. Upon hearing the Third Elder's words, the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming fell silent, feeling somewhat confused about what to do.
Wei Chen had some questions.
"Third Elder, is it a consensus among your realm's top powers regarding the existence of the Great Realm?" Wei Chen asked.
The Elder of the Xiaoxiang Sword Sect smiled and replied, "The high-ranking members of top forces are aware; others have no way of knowing."
Wei Chen nodded; it made sense why Killing God Senior initially did not know about the Great Realm—he simply wasn't qualified. His combat power was sufficient, but his status was not high enough. Only those at the top of their respective forces were entitled to such knowledge. Killing God Senior was a solitary figure and naturally remained unaware.
"Third Elder, what exactly is the Ascension Order?" Wei Chen asked again.
This question was also on the mind of the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming.
The Third Elder explained, "The Ascension Order is a token that grants its holder a chance to break into the Great Realm. At the peak of Twelfth Level Divine Realm, holding an Ascension Order gives one an opportunity to challenge for entry into the Great Realm. How exactly this is done, I am not sure. All I know is that it serves as a shortcut—a pathway to the Great Realm. Without an Ascension Order, one must strive hard to elevate oneself to Thirteenth Level Divine Realm before being able to access the Great Realm."
After hearing the Elder's explanation, Wei Chen instantly understood.
But was the status of the Undying Clan really that formidable? Did they actually hold the key to accessing the Great Realm?
“Third Elder, what kind of existence is the Undying Clan in the realm and the Great Realm?” Wei Chen asked.
The Third Elder smiled and replied, “In the realm, the Undying Clan holds a significant position and possesses immense strength. If they wish to annihilate any top-tier force, it would be effortless for them. They are the rulers of the realm, and whenever there is a conflict between Major Forces, it is often the members of the Undying Clan who step in to mediate.”
“And in the Great Realm, they are not as influential. We only vaguely know that they can connect with individuals from the Great Realm and transport the Twelve-Level Divine Realm Experts from our realm to the Great Realm, selecting certain forces to join. The Ascension Order is something those forces from the Great Realm provide. The role of the Undying Clan is akin to being messengers for those forces in the Great Realm.”
“Don’t think that being a messenger is an insult; being able to serve as a messenger for the forces of the Great Realm is a privilege that countless people can only dream of.”
The Third Elder looked at Wei Chen and the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming, chuckling lightly. He was concerned that referring to them as messengers might offend the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming.
The function of the Undying Clan is to recommend top experts from our realm to the forces in the Great Realm. The existence of the Ascension Order solidifies their status in our realm, making them untouchable. Moreover, the Undying Clan itself is incredibly powerful; if they wanted to destroy any top-tier force, it would be as easy as flipping a hand.
Of course, there are rules in our realm as well. All top-tier forces acknowledge the rightful status of the Undying Clan. During battles between these top-tier forces, they must remain neutral and cannot assist either side; this is one of their clan's regulations.
“Supreme Deity of Southern Ming, the Undying Clan has already declared that as long as you can be brought back to them, you will receive an Ascension Order. Once you return, if you simply say a word for us at Xiaoxiang Sword Sect, it will suffice; there will be no difficulties,” said the Third Elder with sincerity on his face.
The Supreme Deity of Southern Ming turned to Wei Chen and communicated telepathically, “Master, please help me decide on this matter; my mind is a bit chaotic.”
“Will you agree or not? Agreeing brings no harm to me but benefits our Endless Divine Realm by allowing us to obtain a Twelve-Tier Defensive Formation. Why not agree?”
With that, the Supreme Deity of Southern Ming stepped out of the room, seeking some quiet time…
