"Is that so? Just lose consciousness directly?"
Newton looked at Elfman in front of him. This was a plan they had discussed, to observe the magic related to receiving, after all, Miraj was dealing with demons. No matter how miraculous the magic was, Newton had to consider the potential risks.
As for Newton's current relationship with Miraj, it was at least peculiar. They hadn't defined their relationship, but anyone could see that they were essentially together. Therefore, for Miraj's safety, Newton still needed to make some preparations.
"Try this potion."
Newton took out a syringe and injected it into Elfman while he was in a receiving state.
"Um, I feel a bit... sleepy..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Elfman fell into a deep sleep.
"Just as I thought, putting him to sleep with the sedative works."
Newton watched as Elfman gradually lost consciousness and transformed back into his human form. It seemed his hypothesis was correct. Regardless of whether it was the human consciousness or the consciousness of the received demon controlling the body, once they all fell asleep, the activation of the magic would naturally cease. This effectively suppressed the magical rampage; however, it was merely suppression and not control. If Elfman were to receive again next time, he would still go berserk. But at least this provided a buffer period.
Afterward, Newton called Miraj to come and pick him up.
"What are you two doing?"
Miraj was somewhat curious about what Newton and Elfman were up to underground.
"Um, testing whether a large dose of anesthetic is effective on large animals."
Upon hearing Newton's words, Miraj looked bewildered. But after listening to his explanation, she couldn't help but feel amused.
"Hey, who do you think is a large animal? Do you think you're a zookeeper?"
"Miraj," she said with a hint of annoyance.
"Hey, hey."
Newton tossed over a box containing five syringes.
"If anything happens, use these. If five of them can't solve the problem, then I'm out of ideas."
Newton then handed Miraj several boxes of potions that could restore magic and heal injuries.
"Alright, I'll take them," Miraj replied, relaxing a bit. She nodded and transformed, taking Elfman with her as they left.
Fortunately for Newton, the following days seemed uneventful. However, he found himself hitting a bottleneck in his Alchemy skills. He realized he might need to take on some missions, preferably those that offered special materials as rewards.
Special materials were crucial for Alchemy. Since Alchemy couldn't create something from nothing without the Philosopher's Stone, it had to adhere to the principle of equivalent exchange. This meant Newton couldn't simply conjure elements like fire or water out of thin air. However, if he used a lighter, he could ignite flames or even cause explosions in the air. But without even a spark, he wouldn't be able to produce anything at all. This was relatively easy to solve; storing some magic in Magic Crystals would suffice for his needs. Still, who wouldn't want more precious materials? After all, before true Alchemy could take place, it was all about burning money and resources.
Standing in front of the mission board, Newton carefully examined the tasks posted there.
"Are you looking to take on a mission?"
Erza approached him, her expression somewhat conflicted.
"Yes, I'm looking for some materials to see if I can boost my combat abilities," Newton replied, nodding. He noticed that Erza was holding a mission slip in her hand.
"Do you have a mission?"
Newton asked curiously.
"Yes, can you come with me?"
Erza hesitated a bit, knowing that almost everyone in Fairy Tail was aware of Newton's relationship with Miraj. Asking Newton for help now felt like admitting defeat.
"Can't you handle it?"
Newton was well aware of Erza's strength. Among the younger generation in Fairy Tail, she would definitely rank in the top three, alongside Miraj and Laxus. As for himself, Newton knew his combat abilities were not strong; Alchemy was primarily about support.
"There are some troubles in a village. It's not about fighting; the key is to protect that village, and you're more suited for a defensive strategy."
Erza handed the mission request to Newton. He glanced at it and saw it involved a Monster Horde. Given Erza's strength, he figured she could handle it without issue, but protecting the villagers was indeed crucial. However, Newton didn't see anything particularly compelling about the materials involved, so he wasn't very interested in this mission.
"And I actually have some things to discuss with you."
Since she had already spoken up, Erza decided to be straightforward. This mission was merely a way to bridge the gap between them; what came next was what truly mattered.
"You know my magic is Requip: Knight, right?"
Erza tapped on her armor.
"So I need a reliable supplier for my armor."
"You want me to make armor for you?"
Newton nodded, feeling quite confident about his ability to craft armor.
“No, I mean your enchanting skills are impressive. Besides, aren’t you connected with some major Magical Item shops? Could you possibly help me with them? I want to get custom armor from Hear Kreuz.”
“Hear Kreuz?”
Newton looked a bit puzzled.
“Isn’t that a women’s clothing store? I remember they focus on fashionable apparel, right? They don’t seem to deal in armor.”
“Well, I’ll still ask them,” Erza said matter-of-factly.
“Are you serious?” Newton looked at Erza with a hint of exasperation.
“Hear Kreuz isn’t really skilled in this area; the performance of their armor might not meet your requirements.”
“It’s fine, you’re here to help me,” Erza said, patting Newton on the shoulder with a carefree smile.
“You…”
Newton chuckled helplessly. It seemed that not only did she want to leverage his connections, but she also intended to have him assist with the enchanting. It felt like she was planning to fully exploit his value, yet Newton couldn’t help but feel a bit curious.
"Then why don't you just let me make the armor for you?"
After all, if he went to someone else, he would have to pay an extra labor fee. Armor wasn't cheap, and as for his own enchantments, Newton didn't expect the other party to cover his labor costs; he would be satisfied if they could just pay for the materials.
"Because they only make the trendiest outfits for girls there!" Erza replied matter-of-factly, leaving Newton with a face full of disbelief.
"My artistic skills are actually quite good," Newton thought to himself, realizing that he had never really revealed anything related to art.
"How about I just make a set of armor for you?" He felt the need to defend his artistic abilities.
"Let's wait until we get back. Right now, we should focus on our mission," Erza said, pulling Newton along as they left.
