The entire battlefield and his own combat had been completely suppressed, and Future Rogge no longer felt confident.
"It’s impossible, how could I possibly lose?"
Future Rogge seemed to envision his own failure, but he refused to accept it. After all, in the future, the Dragon Clan rampaged, his companions were killed one by one, and some even became food for the dragons. Future Rogge had thought about what he would do: it was the Dragon Control Magic. Yes, this magic was originally created to control the Dragon Clan. However, before Future Rogge could use it, everything was destroyed by Acnologia. The appearance of Acnologia liberated humanity from the control of the dragons, yet it also plunged humanity into despair of annihilation.
Future Rogge felt hopeless, but at that moment he received news about a magic called Eclipse. Upon learning that this could traverse time, Future Rogge realized it was a chance to save the world.
How ridiculous; Future Rogge had never thought about destroying or ruling the world. What he truly wanted was to save it. He intended to summon dragons from four hundred years ago and control them to fight against Acnologia. Although it seemed laughable since even dragons were merely prey in front of Acnologia, this was the only method Future Rogge could think of, and in his view, it was also the most feasible.
However, now there was an unexpected variable—Newton. This existence was completely different from what Future Rogge knew of the past. The miraculous Magical Puppet could actually stand against the dragons; this seemed utterly impossible to Future Rogge.
"I’ve lost."
Future Rogge sat down, unable to see any hope for victory.
"I never expected that my greatest enemy would be Acnologia. I once thought that even if I could control the dragons, I would never be able to kill Acnologia, but I didn’t anticipate losing to a human."
"Then can you stop those dragons from fighting now?"
Newton watched as his opponent gave up and moved in to finish off the dragons. Without them, getting closer wouldn’t pose much of a problem.
"Destroy the Eclipse Gate, and we who do not belong to this era will be sent away."
Future Rogge had completely given up; now, even if he told the other party about these things, it didn't matter much.
"There's no rush. First, let those dragons stop. I have some questions for them, and for you as well."
This person was from the future, while the dragons belonged to the past. For Newton, they were a rare source of knowledge and a treasure trove of history.
Future Rogge shook his head.
"I can only control three dragons. As you can see, the remaining dragons, aside from helping you, are naturally hostile to humans and feed on them. Those dragons are beyond my control."
"Then let your dragons fight those dragons or at least hold them off. That shouldn't be a problem, right?"
Newton frowned. Communicating with those dragons would indeed be quite challenging under such circumstances, but getting some information from Future Rogge was still valuable.
Meanwhile, Newton sent a message to Jiang, instructing him to relocate the surrounding armor and Gundam to another battlefield. After all, with Mother Dragon defeated, the nearby Subspecies Dragonman had also perished, significantly easing the tension on the battlefield for ordinary people. More individuals were freed up to confront the giant dragons. The dragons weren't foolish; with Dragon Slayer Mage and several powerful Mages around, they could easily find themselves in danger of being killed. Thus, many dragons took flight and soared into the distance.
"If I destroy the Eclipse Gate, those dragons will be sent back even if they're outside, right?"
If that didn't work out, leaving a few dragons in the present could become quite troublesome and might require several centuries' worth of missions.
"That's correct, so you don't need to worry."
Future Rogge nodded.
Suddenly, an idea struck Newton.
"What would happen if I put Acnologia in, allowing the current Acnologia to meet the past or future Acnologia?"
"The best-case scenario is that they both suffer, but it's also possible for them to occupy separate sides, or they might even join forces. So I wouldn't recommend doing that unless there's no other option, like in my case... but even then, it might fail."
Future Rogge looked at Newton, wondering why this era had such a variable.
"Alright, I understand. Besides, I have no intention of keeping this thing. Once I learn what I want to know, I'll destroy it."
Newton nodded. Although he was very interested in time travel, he knew that if history were altered and something went wrong, it could lead to trouble.
"So what do you want to ask?"
Future Rogge gazed at Newton.
"Well, my first question is: does using Dragon Slayer Magic too much turn you into a dragon?"
"While I know about that possibility, it's not so simple. At least during my lifetime, I've never heard of anyone turning into a dragon from excessive use of Dragon Slayer Magic."
This statement relieved Newton; at least Mavis and the others were temporarily safe.
"Okay, my second question is: tell me about all the new discoveries and inventions from the future."
Actually, there wasn't much he wanted to ask. The key points were related to Dragon Slayer Magic and the developments over the next seven years. If the other party could produce a potion that even he could fall victim to, then there should be plenty of other good things as well.
However, the development of everything couldn't possibly go smoothly. Newton thought things through well, but the actual situation still unfolded in ways he hadn't anticipated.
"Is that so? Destroying the gate will do, Crimson Lotus Explosive Flame Blade!"
"Wait!"
Newton suddenly had a bad feeling, and then he saw a terrifying figure shatter the Eclipse Gate with explosive flames.
"Natsu!"
At that moment, Newton was almost in tears.
"Pfft, hahaha! You really are Natsu!"
Future Rogge laughed and then looked at Newton.
"Promise me, take good care of the present me, and one year from now, remind myself to protect Frosy at all costs!"
With that, Future Rogge vanished from sight.
"A year from now?"
