"Waiter, you see, we have nothing to do with this guy now. When it's time to pay the bill, don't look for us; we'll order again," Shi Wannian said.
The waiter was taken aback, caught off guard by the situation before him. Although he suspected Jiang Chen couldn't afford the bill, he couldn't just ask Jiang Chen to pay immediately, adhering to the principle that the customer is always right.
After a long wait, Jiang Chen finally finished most of his meal, and the waiter eagerly approached with the bill.
"Sir, here is your bill. Your total comes to three hundred and twelve thousand eight hundred," the waiter said.
Without even glancing at the bill, Jiang Chen pulled out a bank card and handed it to the waiter.
The waiter was stunned; he hadn't expected Jiang Chen to actually have money to pay. He quickly took the card and swiped it on the POS machine. Jiang Chen entered his password, and to everyone's surprise, the transaction was successful. The waiter secretly breathed a sigh of relief; thankfully, Jiang Chen wasn't trying to dine and dash.
At the nearby table, Shi Wannian and his friends had initially hoped to see Jiang Chen make a fool of himself but were shocked when he actually paid the bill. Their expressions were filled with disbelief.
Zhao Wenjing and Sun Weiwu felt a twinge of regret; they were dining with Shi Wannian, and their table's meal cost only a few thousand while Jiang Chen's feast was extravagant. They had missed out on an opportunity for a lavish dinner.
"Haha, did you really spend so much just to show off? I bet that thirty thousand is all your savings," Shi Wannian mocked, feeling frustrated.
Jiang Chen couldn't be bothered with Shi Wannian and his group anymore. He turned to Ye Ming and said, "Let's finish up and leave."
Ye Ming was on the same page; she wanted some time alone with Jiang Chen.
Seeing Ye Ming about to leave, Shi Wannian immediately objected. He had come today specifically to pursue her; if she left, what was the point of him staying?
"Don't rush off! Wait until we finish eating; let's all go to a bar together," Shi Wannian quickly suggested.
"No thanks, Senior Shi. You all take your time; Jiang Chen and I will head out first," Ye Ming replied.
Shi Wannian quickly signaled Zhao Wenjing, who understood that after having eaten Shi Wannian's meal, it was time for her to step in.
Zhao Wenjing stood up and grabbed Ye Ming's arm, urging her to stay a little longer. After all, they had grown up together, and Ye Ming didn't want to be rude.
"How about this, Jiang Chen? Let's sit here and chat while we wait for them," Ye Ming said somewhat helplessly.
"Alright," Jiang Chen agreed readily.
Jiang Chen and Ye Ming sat back down as the waiter cleared the table and prepared a cup of tea for them both.
Seeing Jiang Chen and Ye Ming enjoying their conversation made Shi Wannian's expression darken further. He hadn't expected to lose out to Jiang Chen; he believed he was far superior.
"Ye Ming, why don't you sit over here and chat with Senior Shi? He came specifically to see you today; don't let his good intentions go to waste," Zhao Wenjing urged as she noticed Shi Wannian's gloomy demeanor. Sun Weiwu would need Shi Wannian's support in their future endeavors at work, so she quickly encouraged Ye Ming.
"Yes, Ye Ming, Senior Shi is really outstanding. You shouldn't miss this opportunity," Sun Weiwu added.
Both of them became advocates for Shi Wannian, speaking in his favor.
"What are you two talking about? I don't want to think about romance right now," Ye Ming hurriedly explained, feeling a bit irritated.
Upon hearing this, Shi Wannian was quite annoyed, pondering how to make an impression and whether he could find a way to undermine Jiang Chen.
