By the time I and the Company Commander rushed breathlessly to the site of the submerged vehicle, Xuanhua and the others had already scattered. Some were lying on the ground resting, while others sat chatting, perhaps not realizing the gravity of the situation. 0

"You idiots are still just hanging around?!" The Company Commander was visibly furious. 0

"Report! We have assessed the danger and are waiting for further orders," Xuanhua said, standing up foolishly. 0

"Get lost!" the Company Commander snapped back. 0

I followed the Company Commander to the gap beside the submerged vehicle, anxiously watching his expression. 0

Strangely, the Company Commander only glanced at the vehicle but carefully examined the gap. He even climbed onto the top of the submerged vehicle, crouching there to inspect it closely, using a bamboo pole to probe into the water. 0

"Company Commander," I started to speak but was interrupted by him. "Commander Wang, this gap is more serious than it appears. The ground below is soil, and continuous erosion means that the gap is getting deeper. The concrete on both sides will gradually erode as well. Over time, it will definitely lead to a large breach like the one we just blocked." The Company Commander spoke seriously. 0

"Relay my orders to bring up the Technical Company. Blocking it with vehicles is not a long-term solution. The weight of the vehicles combined with the terrain can temporarily hold back the floodwaters, but over time, it will be hollowed out underneath. The consequences would be unimaginable!" 0

"Understood!" I felt a bit relieved; with the Company Commander's words, I sensed he wasn't overly concerned about this incident with the submerged vehicle. However, he seemed a bit off; there was anger on his face for some reason—surely it wasn't directed at me?! 0

Just as we were talking, a female voice suddenly chimed in, "Are you their leader?" 0

We turned to see a young girl who had not left. She must have been observing from a distance and decided to come over to complain now that she saw the Company Commander had arrived. 0

Sheng Xiong followed behind her, looking awkwardly at me. I knew Sheng Xiong was actually quite honest; despite his fierce appearance, he became very shy around women after a little interaction. I realized he couldn't stop that girl from approaching. I regretted not having Xuanhua keep an eye on her instead. 0

The Company Commander looked at the girl in surprise; he probably hadn't expected that the owner of the vehicle would be so young. 0

Being a composed person, he didn't respond immediately but slowly walked down from on top of the vehicle and asked, "Are you the owner of this car?" 0

The Company Commander was usually serious and rarely smiled. With his stern expression now, perhaps the girl felt a bit nervous and nodded. However, she quickly pointed at me while glancing at the two stripes and star on the Company Commander's shoulder. "Your subordinate pushed my car into the water! And he was quite rude! I want to report him!" 0

I couldn't help but feel amused; why was all this falling on me? Shouldn't she be complaining about Xuanhua and his crew? 0

The Company Commander turned to look at me, frowning. "Comrade, did you buy insurance for your vehicle?!" 0

"I did," she replied, confused. 0

"That's good. According to national regulations, the insurance company will provide compensation. In this situation, we are indeed authorized to requisition nearby vehicles and boats for embankment protection!" 0

"You’re actually protecting him!" The girl became agitated upon hearing this. "What regulations? How come I didn’t know about this?! My dad is at the Embankment Flood Control! I want him here! Let’s see what you do then!" 0

With that, she stomped her foot and walked a few steps away, pulling out her phone to make a call. Perhaps it didn’t go through; she held it to her ear but didn’t say anything, her expression frustrated as she paced back and forth. 0

The Company Commander shrugged and shouted back at me, "Why are you just standing there?! Hurry up and contact the Technical Company! I’ll report the situation up the chain." 0

I quickly grabbed the radio to notify the Technical Company to come handle the situation while the Company Commander communicated with higher-ups. 0

After putting down the radio, the Company Commander called out from near the Gap, "I’ve reported the situation to higher authorities. Someone from the Local Government will be here shortly to deal with this." 0

I felt a bit anxious, but judging by the Company Commander’s expression, it didn’t seem like a major issue. 0

The Company Commander stared blankly at the Embankment, lost in thought; I was also preoccupied with the submerged vehicle. The girl over there was staring at her car while holding her phone. The crowd on the Embankment fell silent for a moment, only hearing the sound of waves crashing against it. 0

The Technical Company arrived quickly; before long, they reached us. Xuanhua and his team hurriedly cleared a path. The Technical Company Commander ran ahead and stopped in front of me with a smile. "Wow, you guys did well coming up with this idea! Company Commander Wang, I really admire your courage to think outside the box!" 0

I chuckled awkwardly as the Company Commander shouted from across, "Stop chatting! Get to work!" 0

The Technical Company Commander acknowledged with a nod and waved his hand; soldiers rushed forward—some jumped into the water while others lifted equipment, starting to reinforce the area. Seeing us bring equipment over, the girl screamed at them, "Aren't you going to get my car out?!" 0

My face flushed as I quietly asked the Technical Company Commander beside me, "Should we get the car out first?!" 0

The Technical Company Commander was an experienced Old Comrade; he shot me a glare and replied bluntly, "Are you stupid? If we pull it out now, it’ll increase water flow pressure and make things harder! It’s safer for it to stay submerged right now!" 0

"Oh, I see." I sheepishly stepped aside. 0

While the Technical Company was busy dealing with the submerged vehicle, people from the Local Government arrived. They walked up from our convoy below the Embankment. I glanced back and realized it was just the leader from earlier at the Gap. Now that the rain had stopped, they cautiously navigated around puddles on the Embankment as they slowly approached us. 0

“Company Commander! The local government has arrived!” I shouted. 0

“Oh!” The Company Commander looked up at me, then glanced behind before jumping onto the vehicle with a thud. He took a few steps on it before jumping back towards me. 0

“Hey! What are you doing?! That’s my car!” the girl across from us screamed. 0

The Company Commander seemed not to hear her, walking straight towards the approaching Local Leader. “Leader!” he greeted politely with a salute. “As per your instructions, we have completed the hazard assessment for the relevant section and found two hazards, both of which have been addressed. There are currently no issues. However, we need to consult the relevant technical departments for a safety inspection of the Embankment; this section of the Embankment project doesn’t seem very stable.” The Company Commander clearly chose his words carefully. 0

“Oh, good, good! Thank you, People's Liberation Army Comrade! We will definitely conduct another inspection!” The Local Leader sighed in relief, shaking hands with the Company Commander. 0

“Oh, Leader, there’s one more thing. We just discovered a Gap here. To prevent further impact and avoid a Breach, we’ve requisitioned a local vehicle to block the Gap. The Technical Company is currently handling it urgently; later on, your government may need to send a tow truck to remove the vehicle for further processing,” the Company Commander mentioned this incident as an aside. 0

“Oh! Is that so!? No problem! No problem! Flood control and emergency response take precedence over everything! Safety is paramount! The stability of our Development Zone is above all else! We’ll handle it; Zhou, notify the relevant departments to follow up on compensation and processing,” the Local Leader began to adopt an official tone. 0

Just as he finished speaking, a voice suddenly shouted, “Dad! Dad!” 0

Everyone was stunned! 0

I turned around to see it was the car owner! 0

She stood anxiously on the other side of the Gap, calling out and waving her hands! 0

I turned back in surprise and saw that the Local Leader frowned, parting the crowd and striding forward a few steps while shouting, “Jing, what are you doing here?!” 0

Is she his daughter?! 0

I instinctively stepped back into the crowd. 0

“Dad! Dad! Someone took my car and it sank!” The girl across complained. “It was him!” She pointed at me. Thankfully, I had hidden among the crowd; the leader turned around and couldn’t see who it was. 0

“What nonsense!” I saw his expression change! “Who told you to come?! How dare you drive here?! What if there’s a Breach?!” Despite his earlier official demeanor, he now truly embodied a father’s role. 0

The girl across from me was too preoccupied to care about the mud splattering everywhere as she rushed over from the embankment. "Dad! What should we do? It's a new car! I want to sue them!" She pouted. 0

"Serves you right!" the leader scolded. "Flood control is urgent, and if they requisitioned it, then they did! Why are you still causing a fuss? You’re such an irresponsible child!" 0

He turned around, awkwardly smiling. "My spoiled child, pampered too much, and now this happens! It's fine, it's fine! Secretary Zhou, don’t bother making calls; just take her home. It’s not safe for a girl to be running around like this!" 0

The person called Secretary Zhou acknowledged him and walked over. The leader then addressed us, "I’ve made a fool of myself in front of everyone! Haha! It’s all good! I should thank you all for protecting the economic development zone behind me! If our car is going to sink here, at least it’s sinking for a good cause!" 0

"Yes, yes! Secretary, you’re sacrificing your personal property for the greater good!" 0

"Giving the reporters at the TV station a scoop could make big news—using your own car to block the gap and assist the People's Liberation Army in emergency rescue." 0

... 0

At this moment, those accompanying the leader chimed in one after another. I shrugged my shoulders; now that the danger had passed, the atmosphere had lightened again. 0
