"Young Master, your archery skills are remarkable!" Several people widened their eyes in astonishment.
Especially the three guards, who had grown up together, never expected that their companion would suddenly possess such exceptional archery skills. Even they themselves could not achieve such terrifying precision.
Previously, he had been completely untrained, spending his days idly and indulging in extravagant purchases due to his family background, which earned him much disdain.
Fortunately, he was so wealthy that he looked down on strong-arming others; he always bought things at nearly double or even higher prices. This earned him the nickname of a spendthrift young master, and some had already begun to bet on how long it would take for him to squander his fortune.
No one could have anticipated that he would suddenly transform, immersing himself in study and martial arts while abandoning all the frivolities of life.
What was even more alarming was his sudden display of extraordinary martial talent, which made Marcus boast more than once about how exceptional he had become, claiming that he was a late bloomer.
It was unbelievable; could it be that some divine blessing had been bestowed upon him?
Xiar smiled lightly, choosing not to elaborate. Maintaining an air of mystery would only benefit him in the future.
With the capabilities of the Evolution Modulator and White Spirit, it wouldn't be long before even Marcus would no longer pose a threat to him—provided he dealt with that other person's threat first!
As this thought crossed his mind, his expression darkened as he coldly said, "Speed up. If we return late, I will face punishment from Father."
You still remember that!
The guards twitched at the corners of their mouths, wanting to retort that who would willingly venture into a dangerous forest at night just because of some unrealistic legend.
Fortunately, they were at the edge of Moonlight Forest; once they ventured deeper, they would have to forcibly stop him. Otherwise, if something went wrong, their lives would be at stake.
But who could refuse the young master? Especially since he was so generous with his spending; they had no choice but to obey.
As they continued on their way, Xiar intentionally concealed his prowess so that his archery skills appeared less exaggerated—hitting four or five times out of ten shots seemed more normal.
After all, they were in a forest where only the dim light of the moon illuminated their surroundings. If he managed to hit every shot perfectly, it would indeed be terrifying.
Throughout their journey, they found no trace of the peculiar creature they sought but instead caught a number of prey. They could only set them aside temporarily and plan to take them back later.
As for whether the Forest Wolf would come—if it did, they would deal with it together!
The three guards were peak warriors of Soldier Rank, capable of single-handedly slaying wolves, accompanied by two experienced hunters. Even if a dozen Forest Wolves showed up, they wouldn't stand a chance!
As they ventured deeper, the trees grew denser, blocking out the moonlight and casting the area into darkness.
At that moment, the Black Hound suddenly emitted a strange sound, sniffing around on the ground while letting out a low whimper.
"Young Master, the Hound has detected traces of the Moonborn Beast!" said the hunter with a bushy beard in a low voice, concern etched on his face. "Young Master, judging by the Hound's behavior, this creature is even more terrifying than the Forest Bear!"
"It's just a mere beast. If we catch it, each of you will receive 0 gold coins, and I'll cover all medical expenses if anyone gets hurt!" Xiar declared boldly, exuding an air of wealth. He was increasingly intrigued by this strange creature; capturing it would undoubtedly provide him with a significant boost in strength.
At this point, even the three guards who wanted to dissuade him exchanged glances and nodded. The promise of 0 gold coins was equivalent to their earnings over six months; it was hard for them to resist.
Thus, they followed the Hound deeper into the woods for several miles until a vast lake came into view.
Ripples danced across the lake's surface as moonlight poured down, shimmering in layers and creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere.
"Young Master, this is Moonlight Lake. There are many fearsome beasts around here, and they hunt at night. We cannot go any further!" The bearded hunter tried to calm the restless Hound, his eyes filled with growing worry.
If they continued to indulge in this reckless pursuit, they might encounter unforeseen dangers.
Just then, a piercing cry from a hawk echoed down from above. The hawk circled overhead, flapping its wings while continuing to emit shrill calls.
"What’s wrong?" Xiar asked the two stunned hunters.
"Young Master, that terrifying monster has appeared. The hawk won't dare to land; it must be nearby!"
Woof! Woof! Woof!
The Hound suddenly roared, but in the next moment, its barking was abruptly cut off as a massive foot covered in silver scales came crashing down upon its head, driving it deep into the mud.
The figure used the Hound as a springboard, launching directly at the nearest guard. The guard, unfazed, swung his sword at the approaching threat.
However, the blade struck the figure but made no impact, sliding harmlessly down its scaly surface.
With terrifying speed, a large hand covered in scales reached for the guard's neck, moving like a White Shadow.
"Help..."
The guard had not anticipated such swiftness; in an instant, he was seized by the throat. Before he could call for help, the monster had crushed his neck with brutal force!
"What the hell is this creature? How can it be so terrifying!" Xiar felt a twinge of panic. He never expected the enemy to be so formidable, taking down a warrior even stronger than himself in one swift motion.
Such a powerful warrior could easily slaughter wolves and even take on a Forest Bear in a one-on-one fight. Yet now, they couldn't even withstand a single claw from this beast!
It was only then that the other two guards reacted, but instead of charging in recklessly, they grabbed Xiar and hurriedly retreated.
"Save those two hunters!" Xiar shouted in desperation.
"Young master, let them stay behind to distract the monster! We must escape!" The lean guard yelled, his eyes filled with fear as he forcibly pulled Xiar away.
Xiar fell silent, no longer uttering any naive words, and began to run alongside the two guards.
Given the monster's terrifying nature, even Marcus might not be able to overpower it. There was no way for them to use those two as bait; without that distraction, they had no chance of survival!
But less than a minute later, the three heard two piercing screams behind them, followed by an eerie silence.
A heavy weight settled in their hearts as they realized that even the experienced hunters had only managed to hold off the creature for such a brief time. They had offered no effective resistance; it was a complete Massacre!
"Young master, please take care of my family when you return!"
One guard suddenly spoke mournfully, stopping in his tracks. He gripped his sword and turned back. This left Xiar momentarily stunned until he was pulled by the other guard and snapped back to reality. "I promise you!" he shouted.
He ran desperately, heedless of the branches that whipped against him, leaving a trail of cuts across his face. He was oblivious to everything around him, even the fact that he had lost his guards.
Having died once already, Xiar was determined not to face death again!
Yet, the footsteps of death drew ever closer, a terrifying presence looming behind him, making him feel as though he were being targeted by countless sharp blades, every hair on his body standing on end.
"If I can't escape, then I'll fight back. If you want me dead, you won't live to see another day!"
Xiar suddenly stopped, his gaze locking onto a Silver Figure. Without hesitation, he drew his bow and fired an arrow!
Prior to this moment, he had forcefully consumed attribute points to elevate his archery skills to Master Level.
A wealth of intricate experiences surged through his mind, making the bow feel like an extension of himself. He instinctively predicted the creature's next move.
Whoosh!
The arrow flew through the air, striking the monster squarely in its left eye as it leaped down from the tree. But before he could celebrate, the creature had already closed the distance and with a fierce blow sent him flying.
Bang!
Xiar felt as if he had been hit by a car, crashing into a tree before coming to a halt. Countless bones shattered within him as he coughed up a mouthful of blood.
In those final moments of consciousness, he saw a snow-white figure appear silently before him, standing against the terrifying monster in a face-off!
