Tall, sturdy trees shot straight up into the sky, their tops shrouded in a layer of white mist.
Below, countless firefly-like creatures flitted about, twinkling like a beautiful cluster of stars.
On the ground, numerous flowers bloomed, some radiating various colors and exuding a pleasant fragrance that filled the air, causing them to widen their eyes in awe, as if they had stumbled into an elven empire.
Although Xiar was already aware of the scenery here, the memories of future events felt like watching a blurry movie; nothing could compare to the vividness and thrill of experiencing it firsthand.
"What... what is going on?!" Rody had prepared himself for battle but found everything completely beyond his expectations.
A massive forest had unexpectedly appeared underground, with trees thick enough for several people to embrace and flourishing with lush foliage.
Thick aerial roots hung down from above, making this strange underground forest even denser, resembling tropical banyan trees. It made one wonder how they could thrive without sunlight.
It was well known that trees relied on the sun for growth, so how could such a vast forest exist underground?
The group cautiously walked through this expansive primeval forest, questioning whether they had hollowed out the entire mountain.
Glow-emitting insects danced around them, and upon closer inspection, some even bore human faces.
"Human-Faced Insects? These have been reported in certain mysterious areas; they are said to evolve into tree spirits in legends. I wonder if it's true," Neil observed the flying insects with keen interest, his face full of curiosity as he seemed eager to catch a few for study.
"I think we should hurry back and get others to help," Rody suggested hesitantly.
Xiar glanced at him and realized that this was not the formidable powerhouse he would become later; he was merely a rookie who had just acquired the Main Totem. It was understandable that he would show signs of retreat in such a situation.
But understanding was one thing; he would not let this opportunity slip away. In a tempting tone, he said, "This place is likely a secret realm mentioned in legends, filled with various undiscovered creatures and precious materials like gemstones. We are the first to arrive, so we must seize the chance to obtain extraordinary Totem Beasts!"
As he spoke, the eyes of the other three lit up, clearly intrigued.
These individuals were struggling Spirit Masters without any powerful mentors, and all resources had to be fought for themselves; otherwise, they wouldn't be taking on missions to earn money.
After some discussion, they decided to venture deeper in search of greater rewards. However, less than ten minutes into their journey, an unexpected event occurred.
Countless insects swooped down, transforming into a river of colorful light that densely filled their vision, turning everything before them into a haze of light where nothing could be seen clearly.
"Ah, Brother Rody..."
Xiar heard Kathy let out a sharp cry, but in the next moment, she vanished without a trace as if swallowed by some terrifying creature.
Yet he knew well that these insects did not eat flesh and would not actively attack humans; they were merely gathering to drive them away due to their intrusion.
He calmed the restless fox and stood still. After a moment, the shimmering veil before him slowly dissipated, revealing that the other three had long since disappeared.
"I knew something like this would happen." Xiar shrugged it off and squinted upward, trying to gauge the target's location by the brightness of the clouds above.
He would not leave empty-handed; this was a branch of that organization.
That organization sought to cultivate a reverse Tree of Life, aiming to become the one and only True God of all life. To achieve this goal, they spared no expense in resources and planted countless Seeds of the Tree of Life around the world.
The function of these sub-bodies is somewhat similar to the Signal Tower from my previous life; they can link to other sub-bodies, forming a vast network that covers the entire world.
Once this network is fully established, they will completely open the Source Gate, using an energy more immense than the ocean to thoroughly activate this network.
Then, they will undergo a process akin to Totem Awakening, granting it consciousness and transforming it into a reverse existence that surpasses divine beasts!
However, no plan can withstand change. The other two major factions caused disruptions, leading to a catastrophic failure of their final Spirit Awakening ritual. They only managed to create an entity stronger than an ordinary divine beast, which was easily surrounded and killed by those protagonists.
Xiar's objective on this journey is related to the Seed of the Tree of Life. He needs to obtain a seed from above to infiltrate this global network and gain a significant advantage for the future.
He moved silently through the vast forest like a leopard, occasionally using vines and leaves to conceal his form and evade the strange birds flying above.
These birds were placed by the enemy along the route to monitor the entire underground space. If he were discovered, it would attract their attention.
Currently, he possessed only a weak Main Totem, making him no match for those at the First Level or even Second-Level Spirit Masters; he had to proceed with caution.
After a moment, Xiar spotted an open area ahead, where a row of rudimentary houses made of stones stood.
At the entrance of one house lounged a massive Fierce Black Giant Wolf, lazily dozing on the ground.
But Xiar dared not look at it directly, for this giant wolf exuded a terrifying majesty, more robust than a bison. Its sleek and shiny fur suggested it was likely a Totem that had undergone Evolution.
"Meow!"
The fox let out a soft call, a hint of fear in the mental waves confirming his suspicions.
Now he was nearly a hundred meters away from the Alpha Wolf. With his current physical condition, it would be difficult to be discovered as long as he acted with caution, but facing it head-on would only lead to death; for now, all he could do was wait.
He had never lacked patience; what he lacked was bait to draw it away.
As for whether the bait was those three people, that was beyond his concern. After all, they were just strangers he had met briefly; their deaths would not bring him any sorrow.
He hid among the dense leaves and saw a peculiar tree shimmering brightly to the left of the Stone House.
The tree stood just over a meter tall, its branches like a dragon's rainbow, sturdy and covered in mottled bark, suggesting it had existed for a long time, evoking a sense of the passage of time.
There were no excess branches above, only vibrant leaves. Each leaf was no larger than a palm, radiating a luminous glow that surpassed even the most extravagant Christmas trees from his past life.
At the base of each leaf grew something resembling a Pine Cone, with colors gradually increasing from the bottom to the top.
From gray at the bottom to red, green, blue, gold, and purple at the top—these five-colored Pine Cones made him particularly envious.
After half an hour, bait finally appeared: a man in a black robe surveyed his surroundings with astonishment.
When he spotted that tree, greed instantly filled his eyes. But before he could rush over, the giant wolf had already been stirred!
