"I'm sorry, but I have no intention of saving the world. I just want to protect the people around me and do what I want," Xiar said, shaking his head without any hint of desire for the task.
From the other person's perspective, it was clear they wanted him to become the savior of the world, rescuing it from the clutches of outsiders.
If it had been someone more passionate, they would have undoubtedly accepted without hesitation. After all, with the entire world in turmoil, anyone from this world would fight tooth and nail to break free from such a prison.
But he was clearly not that type of person. Even after losing significant memories, he remained uninterested.
"Unfortunately, you don't get to decide. Those people seem to have already noticed you," Moko said, escaping from Cecilia's magical grasp, a faint smile appearing on its round face.
It was quite remarkable that a creature resembling a bear could display such a human-like smile.
After observing Xiar's silence for a moment, it asked again, "Do you know why some people are destined to become legends from birth? Why they are the protagonists in the most beloved tales of humanity, able to evolve effortlessly through Evolution, Ultimate Evolution, and even Super Evolution?"
"Hey, hey! I'm your master!" Cecilia exclaimed, her face flushing red at being referred to in such a manner.
"To be honest with you, it's because most of them are Invaders from beyond!"
The seemingly cute Totem Beast dropped another bombshell!
Before Xiar could ask anything, Cecilia's eyes widened in shock as she exclaimed, "How is that possible!"
"Why not? What do you think is the reason?" Moko replied with an exaggerated eye roll before calmly explaining.
"Those individuals come from outside the world and possess terrifying abilities. Their rate of power increase far surpasses that of ordinary Spirit Masters, making them dazzling figures of their time who gather immense world essence to consume!"
"This... this..." Cecilia felt dizzy and completely unable to comprehend.
Moko continued, "The soul is one of the most outstanding creations of a world, containing powerful Source of Origin. Humans inherently possess incredibly strong souls; this is why they refer to themselves as the spirit of all things. Therefore, when someone becomes a focal point among humans, they naturally attract the world's essence. Those Invaders have this plan in mind—to gradually devour the world's essence!"
"I want to know, since it's become a breeding ground, why not harvest directly upon achieving Super Evolution?" Xiar finally asked.
"It's simple. Humans age and die; even Fourth-Level Spirit Masters are no exception. But until their last moment, their souls continuously grow stronger without limits. The stronger the soul, the more potent the world's essence contained within it. Thus, that ultimate weapon will only strike when a Fourth-Level Spirit Master dies!" Moko plopped down on the ground and waved its chubby hand with surprising dexterity like a human.
"I can sense that you seem to have gathered the favor of World Will; that's why you've become an enemy of those so-called 'protagonists'!"
"That means, if you don't go looking for them, they will come looking for you, relentlessly!"
...
Cecilia was at a loss for words; she hadn't expected such a method, feeling it was even more legendary than legends themselves.
She curiously examined the boy beside her. He was not yet seventeen, a year younger than her, yet he possessed the terrifying strength to directly kill a Fourth-Level Spirit Master.
Could this be the formidable nature of those so-called "protagonists"?
"Oh, then bring it on. It's not like I haven't killed before," Xarl replied expressionlessly.
... Just look at that response; it was incredibly bold!
Cecilia suddenly felt a wave of unease. Could deceiving such a terrifying being really lead to a good outcome?
"Sister, let's go. I feel a bit uneasy here." He suddenly looked at her, his sapphire-like eyes filled with warmth, completely devoid of the earlier indifference.
"Alright then, let's go. Fatty, hurry up and take us back!" Cecilia was startled but quickly regained her composure, kicking her Totem Beast and venting all her worries and complaints onto it.
"Sorry, using this ability once means I need to rest for a while before I can use it again," Moko shook his head.
"You bastard! There's nothing here; do you want us to starve to death?"
The girl immediately laughed in anger, pointing at the barren surroundings. There were no animals, not even a blade of grass—were they just supposed to sit and wait for death?
"Don't worry; there's an endless supply of Source Power here. You won't starve," Moko shot her a sideways glance, clearly emboldened after arriving in his territory.
"You despicable bastard!" Cecilia ground her teeth in frustration, raising her head like an arrogant goose. "The powerful Source Artifacts are said to fall from the Source Gate, and as the guardian of the world's origin, don't you have even one Source Artifact?"
According to the academy's records, only the most elite beings could possess a Source Artifact and wield its incredible power. Thus, she wanted to see if she could obtain one through Moko.
Moko replied helplessly, "Of course I have them because Source Artifacts are manifestations of our abilities. The Source Artifacts that have spread to the Surface World are precisely those transformed from our bodies as guardians."
"I see..." Cecilia stared at him in astonishment.
"I possess the ability of the World Key, which means I hold the key to open the passage between the Inner World and the Surface World, allowing me to take you all through," Moko boasted, a hint of pride in her voice.
"Then why didn't you bring me here to see it earlier?" Cecilia replied, her dissatisfaction growing.
"Do you think traveling between worlds doesn't consume energy? You haven't encountered any danger yet; once you do, I would definitely bring you in," Moko rolled her eyes again.
"Besides, do you think there are no dangers here? This place is home to Evil Beasts, manifestations of the world's original evil, and they are one of our enemies as Guardians."
At this, Cecilia quietly stepped back a few paces, hiding behind Xiar, clearly worried about encountering such terrifying monsters.
"I just want to ask one thing: can you take me to the worlds of those Invaders?" Xiar suddenly looked at Moko with seriousness.
Moko paused for a moment before gently nodding. "Yes!"
