I looked at her cautiously. "Manager Ma, you... aren't angry?"
Ma Gui Fang leaned back against the sofa, staring at my face. "What should I be angry about?"
"I..."
"Did your wife argue with you?"
I sighed. "No."
"Then why are you sighing?"
I muttered, "She must still be in the dark. When she finds out the truth, she'll definitely want to argue with me."
Ma Gui Fang snorted. "I don't think so."
"Not think so?"
Ma Gui Fang blinked. "That day, your wife left with a smile."
"What?" I was taken aback. "Impossible!"
"What's impossible about it?"
"She... she couldn't be that magnanimous."
Ma Gui Fang smiled but didn't say anything.
"If you don't believe it, fine." Ma Gui Fang stood up. "Come on, give my shoulders a massage."
She shot me a glare. "Don't forget, I'm your benefactor."
"Stop dragging it out and act like a man, will you?"
I gritted my teeth and placed my hands on her shoulders.
Ma Gui Fang closed her eyes.
I asked her, "Manager Ma, were you drunk that day?"
"Yeah."
"You must have been really drunk." I muttered, "How could Bao Lan possibly leave with someone else?"
"Why not?"
"She's so innocent and fragile, harmless even, and she loves me so much."
I recalled how helpless she looked when I went to pick her up that day; it was completely different from what Ma Gui Fang said about her leaving with a smile.
"Manager Ma, were you just pretending that day?"
"Pretending about what?"
"About being drunk."
Ma Gui Fang smiled lightly, remaining silent. My suspicions grew stronger. Ma Gui Fang was lying to me. Bao Lan would never leave with someone else.
"Alright," Ma Gui Fang said, patting my hand. "You should get back to work."
Reluctantly, I withdrew my hand and whispered, "Manager Ma, I’d like to request some time off."
"What for?"
"I promised Bao Lan that I would go on a honeymoon."
"Honeymoon?" Ma Gui Fang scoffed. "You just got married, and the company has so much business. How can you go on a honeymoon?"
"No way!"
"Then I’ll take ten days off."
"Ten days?" Ma Gui Fang shot me a glare. "Are you dreaming? I'll give you three days. Is that enough?"
"Three days…"
"Not enough?"
"That’s enough, that’s enough."
"Then go ahead."
"Thank you, Manager Ma."
I turned to leave but suddenly remembered something. I turned back to Ma Gui Fang and asked, "Manager Ma, may I ask you a question?"
"Go ahead."
"Why did you… do that with me?"
"Do what?"
"You know… that."
"I wanted to, is that okay?"
"You…"
"Is it not okay?"
"No, I mean, why did you want to… do that?"
"I told you, I wanted to."
"But…"
"But what?"
"We're in a superior-subordinate relationship."
"In the company, we are superior and subordinate, but privately, we are partners."
"Partners?"
I was taken aback.
Indeed, although Ma Gui Fang and I were officially in a hierarchical relationship, more often than not, we felt more like partners. We discussed projects together, drank together, played games together, and traveled together... Unknowingly, I had gradually developed a desire to conquer her. But she was my boss, and I dared not entertain any improper thoughts. However, ever since Bao Lan appeared, Ma Gui Fang had started to distance herself from me. I couldn't understand why.
After work, Ma Gui Fang asked me to accompany her to dinner with a client again. I shook my head.
"Manager Ma, I just got married; this isn't appropriate."
"What's inappropriate about it?"
"You know."
"I don't know."
I steeled myself and said, "Manager Ma, you know that I just got married. If I go with you to meet the client, Bao Lan will be unhappy."
"Whether she is happy or not has nothing to do with me."
