Dog Egg had just devoured over a hundred High-Quality Spirit Stones from Scholar Principal, leaving the petrified Grandpa behind as he scampered off with his father from Star Picking Tower. Before they left, he couldn't resist putting on a pitiful expression, leaving Scholar Principal to silently stew in his own frustration, realizing too late how boastful he had been.
The breeze was gentle as Li Xiaonan led his wife, Ling Kui, and their son, Dog Egg, back to their small courtyard.
The phoenix tree in front of the yard stood tall and straight, just as it had when Li Xiaonan departed. The rustling leaves whispered in the wind, and Li Xiaonan's long hair was slightly disheveled. Ling Kui smiled and helped him tidy up his hair.
Li Yanrong had long heard that Li Xiaonan had encountered trouble during his travels, and her heart was heavy with worry. When she heard from Zhang Hao that Li Xiaonan had returned, she waited at the courtyard entrance for ten days but still hadn't seen him.
Anxiously pacing at the door, she couldn't help but mock herself: Why hadn’t she treated him better before? Now… sigh, she just hoped he would return safely.
Perhaps Heavenly Fate had heard her prayers; Li Xiaonan was back. At that moment, he stood outside the courtyard, smiling at an extraordinarily beautiful woman.
Seeing his expression, Li Yanrong realized that he no longer looked foolish. Her gaze became vacant as her inner thoughts spiraled: So it turns out I was the one who was truly foolish! When did he stop being foolish? Or has he never been foolish? When did another woman appear by his side? Why doesn’t he share anything with me? Of course! He must hate me. No! I can’t think like this!
Lost in such thoughts, she found herself crying silently.
Finally noticing Li Yanrong standing not far away, Li Xiaonan smiled helplessly. He knew that in front of her, this fool could no longer maintain his facade.
Li Yanrong wiped her tears away and approached with a smile. “Xiao Nan, you’re back! Who are they?”
“This is my mother, Ling Kui. I’m my father Li Xiaonan’s son; my name is Dog Egg. Hello, Second Mother!”
The three adults were taken aback simultaneously because it was Dog Egg who spoke. Even more surprising was the implication of his words—clearly stating that Ling Kui was the original wife while Li Yanrong was the concubine. What shocked Li Xiaonan was how Dog Egg knew all this.
Li Yanrong fell silent as she welcomed the three into the courtyard.
Li Xiaonan felt quite embarrassed, while Ling Kui resumed her frosty demeanor. In contrast, Li Dogdan seemed completely unfazed, bouncing around happily.
Coincidentally, the vacant room in the courtyard had been given to Ling Kui.
After returning to the courtyard, Li Xiaonan immersed himself in alchemy. He had gained new insights into the art of pill-making during his recent journey, prompting him to prepare in advance.
Three months passed in the blink of an eye. He compared the differences between using an alchemical furnace and a refining method for pill-making. The furnace yielded a higher success rate, but the pills produced through the refining method had purer medicinal properties.
Excited by this conclusion, Li Xiaonan's continuous practice over the three months had elevated his cultivation to the mid-stage of Yuan Ying.
Stretching lazily, he decided to step outside for a stroll and discuss alchemical insights with his senior brother.
As soon as he stepped out, he saw Ling Kui strike Li Yanrong down to the ground.
For some reason, a scene of "the original partner confronting the mistress" suddenly flashed through his mind.
He hurried over to Li Yanrong's side. "Are you okay? Sister?" He began checking her condition. Li Yanrong was already at the late stage of Heart Movement cultivation and was on the verge of a breakthrough. Ling Kui hadn't used much force; Li Yanrong only suffered some minor injuries.
Li Yanrong looked at Li Xiaonan with a sorrowful expression, tears welling up in her eyes but not a word escaping her lips as he helped her up.
Li Xiaonan sighed and, as he looked down and then back up, his expression shifted. He coldly said to Ling Kui, "You come with me!" With that, he entered Ling Kui's room.
Ling Kui's face remained icy as she glanced back at the smug Li Yanrong before leaving.
Shaking her head, she felt a pang of bitterness inside. Inner Thoughts: The worries I had have come true after all. But so what? Wasn't this path chosen by me?
A bitter smile crept onto her lips as she glanced at the ring on her right hand's Nameless finger before following Li Xiaonan into the room.
"Close the door," Li Xiaonan said coldly.
Ling Kui complied and turned to shut the door. Just as she closed it, two bear-like paws suddenly appeared on her chest, accompanied by a familiar breath near her ear.
"Silly girl, did you think I misunderstood you and felt sad?"
In the past, Ling Kui had been very cold, but ever since she met Li Xiaonan, it was as if the ice had melted, and clear tears would flow from her eyes.
"Silly Ling'er, how could I not understand you? I was just putting on a show for Yanrong. It’s been three months since we last met, and you seem to have grown again. We..." As Li Xiaonan spoke, he picked up Ling Kui in his arms. "Shall we be Obedient Dragon II?"
Ling Kui shyly nodded, and the two began to roll around on the bed.
This bed was bought by Li Xiaonan after returning to Outer Academy with Zhang Hao. At first, Ling Kui didn’t understand what it meant, but now she did.
Their Yuan Ying intertwined at Ling Kui's Dantian, bare and breathing in sync, yin and yang alternating back and forth. Li Xiaonan's Harmony Technique finally broke through to the Six Yang Realm.
"Ling'er, shall we be Obedient Dragon II?"
"Didn't we just do that?"
Li Xiaonan chuckled foolishly, his hands wandering restlessly toward her soft spots. "Really Obedient Dragon II, let’s give Dog Egg a little sister."
Ling Kui immediately tensed up, breaking free from his embrace and standing up. "I... I'm not ready yet."
Li Xiaonan laughed as he wrapped his arms around her from behind and softly said, "Then we can wait until you're ready for Obedient Dragon II. I told you that you would be my first in life; I will wait."
Ling Kui didn’t respond but felt a heart full of happiness.
“Dad! Mom! Oh! You’re up to no good!” Li Xiaonan's lips twitched as he mentioned Dog Egg, who appeared right on cue.
Ling Kui affectionately patted Dog Egg's head, and Dog Egg grinned foolishly, looking just like his father.
“Mom, look what I brought you!” Li Dogdan pulled out a piece of azure armor from behind him. It shimmered with an azure light, with scales that seemed to fit together like a puzzle. The shoulders boasted two impressive horns, exuding a fierce aura that suited Ling Kui's cold demeanor perfectly.
Li Xiaonan was taken aback; it was a low-grade treasure!
Dog Egg scampered over to Li Xiaonan and said sweetly, “Dog Egg didn’t forget Dad, this is for you!” He presented another piece of armor, this one black with a silver sheen, which turned out to be a mid-grade treasure!
Though the difference between treasure and spirit tools was only a word, the gap in their power was immense. A low-grade treasure was ten times more powerful than a high-quality spirit weapon.
Li Xiaonan and Ling Kui immediately dripped blood to recognize their ownership of the armor and donned it. It had to be said that Li Dogdan had an eye for quality; the Azure Dragon Armor accentuated Ling Kui's figure beautifully. The two of them couldn’t help but grin foolishly at her.
“What are you staring at?” Ling Kui said coldly.
Li Xiaonan chuckled and finally remembered, “Dog Egg, where did these treasures come from?”
“Grandpa thought I was eating too many spirit stones, so he asked Uncle White for help. Later, Uncle White opened a treasure vault for me filled with spirit tools and treasures. Although they aren’t as tasty as spirit stones, they can fill my belly.”
Li Xiaonan paused, seemingly recalling the pained expressions of Scholar Principal and Little White. He wondered: This child eats so much; he must know many spells or something similar, right?
He promptly asked Dog Egg, who shook his head in grievance. “I don’t know any spells…” Li Xiaonan’s smile froze as he helplessly patted Dog Egg’s head. No matter how silly or incompetent he was, he was still his son. If he lacked ability, then so be it. After all, there were plenty of spirit stones in his Soul Ring to keep the child fed for a while. However, as a father, he began contemplating future ways to accumulate wealth.
Ling Kui concealed her armor and asked, “Did you prepare something for Little Mother?”
Li Dogdan nodded with a smile. “Yes!” He then took out a piece of red soft armor, a high-quality spirit weapon.
It was clear from the gifts prepared by Li Dogdan that these individuals held a significant place in his heart.
After Li Dogdan visited Li Yanrong, Ling Kui seemed to sense the confusion in Li Xiaonan's mind and shared everything that had happened over the past three months with him.
Li Dogdan had a huge appetite, consuming nearly a thousand spirit stones in just one week. Although this was not much for the Outer Academy's stock, he was eating only High-Quality Spirit Stones, and at the rate he was going, the Outer Academy's inventory would soon be depleted.
Xiao Bai had also come several times, primarily to investigate what abilities Li Dogdan possessed. However, aside from discovering that Li Dogdan had incredibly tough skin—impervious to blades, fire, and lightning—Xiao Bai couldn't draw any other conclusions.
Li Xiaonan nodded helplessly and said, "Having tough skin is good; at least it can protect oneself."
Three years passed in the blink of an eye. During this time, Li Xiaonan gained a solid understanding of alchemy. With the Jade Eye Tablet left by his mother and guidance from Xiao Bai, his alchemical skills had surpassed those of Zhang Hao.
Refining tools was naturally his forte, and over the three years, he invented many peculiar items, especially the Carefree Fan, which he had modified to be quite formidable.
Most importantly, he had made significant progress with Ling Kui and Obedient Dragon II. His Harmony Technique had reached the level of Nine Suns, and he was just a breath away from entering the Yin Period. Although he remained in the mid-stage of Yuan Ying, his True Essence Power had already caught up to that of the Separation Stage.
Ling Kui also made considerable gains. Since her bond with Li Xiaonan and Obedient Dragon II, a small red dot appeared on her forehead, signifying a surge of True Essence Power as if she had gained an additional Dantian.
One day, Ling Kui approached Li Xiaonan and said, "Xiao Nan, I want to go out for some experience."
Li Xiaonan was taken aback but then smiled and replied, "Sure! Let's go together. How about we head to Qinhuang Islands? We can pass by Fairy Island; I can also thank Perilla Girl for informing us that day."
"You..." Ling Kui was momentarily stunned. Inner Thoughts: Does he know what I'm thinking?
Ling Kui didn't genuinely want to go out for experience; her sole purpose was to rescue her father at Qinhuang Islands.
"Spirit Girl, is it okay? I want to go; you accompany me!" Li Xiaonan said with a silly grin as he looked at Ling Kui.
" Ling Kui " nodded in agreement.
"Alright! I'll go greet Yanrong and ask her to keep an eye on Dog Egg."
With that, he hurried off to find Li Yanrong. "Sister..."
When Li Yanrong saw him, she was momentarily taken aback. It had been three years, and she knew very well the place Ling Kui held in his heart. Yet after all this time, she still didn't know what her own position was in Li Xiaonan's heart.
She stepped aside to let Li Xiaonan into the house.
"Sister... will you blame me?" Li Xiaonan took Li Yanrong's hand.
"Blame you for what... what could I possibly blame you for?" Li Xiaonan sighed in relief. He always felt something strange about Li Yanrong, a feeling he couldn't quite articulate.
He chuckled foolishly, "Sister, Ling Kui and I will be leaving for a while. You'll take care of Dog Egg, right? After all, you are his... little mother!"
Li Yanrong froze. The term "little mother" coming from Li Xiaonan carried a different meaning; it meant she still held a place in his heart.
Her eyes filled with mist. "Okay, you and your sister be careful. I'll wait for you both to come back."
