“Hey, what are you staring at?” Hong Lian asked, looking at the dazed Li Xiaonan.
“Where did you get this bead? Can I borrow it for a moment?”
“As soon as I left the Blood Pool, this bead followed me. It grants any wish, so here!” Hong Lian smiled and pressed the bead into Li Xiaonan's hand.
The bead felt warm in his palm as he examined the amber-colored orb closely.
It was small, only about the size of a fingernail, and upon closer inspection, it wasn't a perfect sphere but slightly oval-shaped.
Completely transparent, it contained some bright red threads swirling inside.
Li Xiaonan tried to inject a stream of Buddha's Vital Energy into it, and the bead suddenly trembled violently, reflecting a strong light of Buddha.
As the light entered his body, Li Xiaonan felt a small Little Jin Dan appear in his Dantian. The golden elixir expanded and shattered, transforming directly into a Buddha Infant.
He exclaimed in shock, “Such powerful Buddha nature! It's Shariputra! It really is Shariputra!”
Hong Lian pouted and snatched Shariputra back, saying, “You saved my life; I should repay you with all my strength, but I can't give you this bead. I... I still need it... to find someone…”
“This Shariputra is destined to be with you; it wishes to assist you. It’s your fortune. You don’t need to give it to me. May I ask who you are trying to find?” Li Xiaonan inquired.
Hong Lian looked at the Shariputra in her hand and said, “I don’t know… I can’t remember that person’s name or what he looked like. I only vaguely recall him saying he would wait for me, that we would meet again in the next life…”
Seeing her frowning and lost in thought, he chuckled, "What are you thinking about? Are we a couple?"
Hong Lian's face flushed red, and she playfully hit him on the back, saying, "Stop talking nonsense! Be careful or I might bite you!"
"Well, if you're hungry, just tell me. I'll let you bite me."
Hong Lian was taken aback and retorted angrily, "Why are you so strange? One day, you'll end up harming yourself! Once I find the person I'm looking for, I'll give you this bead! From then on, we owe each other nothing! You can deal with your demons, and I'll handle mine!"
He shook his head and suggested, "Since Shariputra has chosen you, it shows that you have a connection to Buddhism. Why throw that away? Why not join me in Buddhism?"
Hong Lian blinked at him as if he were foolish. "Nameless, are you alright? I'm a demon! You want me to practice Buddhism? Isn't that asking for my death?"
"A monk doesn't speak falsehoods. So the saying 'put down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha' is true. Don't you want to use Shariputra to find someone? If you have the power of Buddhism backing you, I believe you'll find them soon!"
This reasoning deeply moved Hong Lian. She tightened her grip on Shariputra and resolutely thought, "Alright! Buddhism it is! What do you want me to do?"
Li Xiaonan smiled knowingly and began to impart the teachings of Buddhism from his mind to Hong Lian.
As Hong Lian entered the demon realm for the first time, her demonic nature was not deeply rooted. With the support of Shariputra, she quickly shed the symbols of her demonic lineage.
Her tattered wings slowly fell away, leaving only a smooth back. A faint Buddhist light radiated from her youthful face, making her appear exceptionally pure.
She slowly opened her eyes and glanced at her braided hair in front of her. With a sigh of relief, she said, "Fortunately, my hair didn't fall out."
Li Xiaonan smiled and replied, "You look so adorable; even if your hair fell out, it wouldn't matter. I'm sure the one waiting for you wouldn't mind either."
Hong Lian pouted, two rosy blushes appearing on her delicate face.
She secretly muttered to herself, "This guy is so annoying! He actually said I'm cute... Am I cute? Then... does he... like me?"
Oh dear! This is so frustrating! My heart is racing!
For a moment, Hong Lian was lost in thought, unsure whether her feelings were for the Nameless in front of her or for that fated person.
She shook her head, stood up, and began to punch Li Xiaonan again.
"Alright, alright, stop hitting me. Why not try using Shariputra to find the one waiting for you?" Li Xiaonan said this while not moving an inch, as if he were a Stump, allowing Hong Lian to vent her frustrations.
Hong Lian obediently stopped and took out Shariputra, gently stroking it as she asked, "Hey, Nameless, once I find that person, we’ll part ways. What are your plans?"
"The demon realm will not be empty; I vow not to become a Buddha!" Li Xiaonan said solemnly with his hands clasped together.
Hong Lian rolled her eyes at him and scolded, "Are you being foolish again? How could the demon realm possibly be empty?"
"As long as one practices diligently, even an iron pestle can be ground down to a needle."
Hong Lian shook her head and sighed. "Do you even know what demons truly are?"
"Demons are evildoers who harm lives," Li Xiaonan answered honestly.
"You're wrong! The source of magic lies within humans. Within the human heart, there are both good and evil thoughts. When evil outweighs good, that is when magic appears. So if you want the Demon Realm to be empty, then first let the Mortal Realm be empty!"
Li Xiaonan was taken aback, still processing the words.
Hong Lian continued, "Ah! There's more! All living beings with life and thought possess both good and evil intentions. In other words, if you want the Demon Realm to be empty, then all beings must perish first! Nameless, can you do that?"
"You..." Li Xiaonan furrowed his brow, neither nodding nor shaking his head. He countered, "How do you know all this?"
Hong Lian looked down at the Shariputra in her hands and said, "When I crawled out of the Blood Pool, I was dazed and unaware of these things. It wasn't until after Buddhism that strange knowledge began to flood into my mind."
She raised her head and said, "Nameless, you are human and should not linger in the Demon Realm for long. If you truly wish to enlighten the demons, why not find a way back to the Mortal Realm and enlighten the people instead?"
Li Xiaonan nodded slowly. "You might be right..."
But how do I leave the Demon Realm?
Fleeting memories began to surface in his mind, specifically about the use of Spatial Power.
He felt both surprised and delighted. Amitabha! Is it the will of Buddha that allows me to leave the Demon Realm?
He looked at Hong Lian and said, "Once you find that person, I will leave. What about you? Will you stay in the Demon Realm? The person you're looking for is likely a Demon; will you follow him?"
Hong Lian nodded, gazing at the distant blood moon with a smile. "I remember he said that no matter whether I am a demon or something else, he would wait for me. So I think the same way. If he is a demon, then I will follow him! Now that I have embraced Buddhism, perhaps I can enlighten him as well."
Li Xiaonan gazed at her clean and innocent smile, momentarily lost in thought.
Meanwhile, Hong Lian emerged from her memories. She rubbed Shariputra, channeling the little Buddha's Vital Energy within her into it.
A gentle light illuminated her face, and Li Xiaonan clearly saw the hope in her eyes, which made him feel a vague discomfort in his heart.
He furrowed his brow as a headache began to throb again.
"Nameless, I found it! In the East! Nameless, what's wrong? You look pale."
Hong Lian smiled at Li Xiaonan, but when she noticed his ashen complexion, her smile faded, leaving only concern and worry on her face.
"Nothing, let's go..."
Li Xiaonan shook his head and hurriedly stood up, heading eastward.
Hong Lian gently pressed her lips together and followed behind him.
Along the way, neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere suddenly became a bit awkward.
Hong Lian kicked at the yellow sand beneath her feet and suddenly darted in front of Li Xiaonan. "Nameless, if you have something to say, just say it! I'm not clever; I don't like guessing what others are thinking, nor can I figure it out."
Li Xiaonan forced a bitter smile and replied, "It's nothing. It's just that all around is yellow sand, filled with desolation..."
"Hurry up and speak plainly!" Hong Lian interrupted.
Li Xiaonan sighed, "Thinking about our impending separation makes my heart feel heavy."
Hong Lian narrowed her eyes slightly, hooking her arm around his, and smiled, "I will miss you!"
"Amitabha, we are both followers of Buddhism and should not be controlled by our emotions. It can easily give rise to Inner Demons..."
"Does being a follower of Buddhism mean we have to live like wooden dolls? Nameless, I’m glad to have met you. If it weren't for someone waiting for me, perhaps... perhaps I would... follow you..."
Hong Lian lightly bit her red lip, but what she truly wanted to say were the four words: "I like you."
Li Xiaonan froze for a moment, the pain in his solar plexus starting to throb again.
Why? Why did a thousand sails suddenly surge in my heart?
Why do I feel like crying? If someone is waiting for Hong Lian, is there also someone waiting for me?
What exactly have I forgotten?
Seeing him lost in thought, Hong Lian couldn't help but smile as she pulled him forward to fly ahead.
A day later, they finally spotted the city—it was the former Aries.
The once vibrant city now lay in ruins.
A dark figure moved slowly through the streets, suddenly stopping as he gazed toward the city gate. "It's him! He hasn't died after all! I will avenge this broken body!"
As his words fell, the black mist gradually dissipated, revealing a menacing figure with blood-red eyes filled with killing intent.
He wore a plain black robe, and behind him, eleven pairs of Flesh Wings fluttered gently.
This man was none other than the legendary Demon Emperor.
Li Xiaonan's Divine Infant self-detonation had not killed him, but his demonic form had been severely damaged, requiring a hundred or even a thousand years to regain his peak state.
Now the Demon Emperor was recuperating within Aries, and he never expected Li Xiaonan to come right to him.
A cold smile crept across his lips as he melted into the shadows behind the palace gate, watching two figures approach slowly.
"Can you fly any faster?" Hong Lian urged anxiously.
"I'm already going as fast as I can," Li Xiaonan replied absently.
Throughout their journey, he had recited the Heart Sutra thousands of times, yet the strange feeling in his heart had not faded; it continued to torment his nerves, lingering just out of reach.
He remained completely unaware that someone was waiting for him within Aries, poised to deliver a fatal blow.
His heart felt like a small boat adrift in the vast ocean, bobbing up and down, unable to settle as waves crashed against it. Every time he tried to recall something, a pain that felt as if it would tear him apart interrupted all his thoughts.
Hong Lian glanced at him, slowly loosening her grip on his arm before suddenly darting toward the palace gate.
Li Xiaonan felt a sudden emptiness in his arm and was startled, quickly following after her.
Hiding behind the palace gate, the Demon Emperor smirked coldly as he dashed forward, only to be surprised when an eleven or twelve-year-old girl suddenly leaped into his arms.
His hand was still raised, pointing directly at Li Xiaonan.
Li Xiaonan noticed the Demon Emperor and couldn't help but furrow her brow, thinking to herself: This person exudes a heavy Killing Intent! He must be a great villain!
However, since he could speak such words to Hong Lian, he must also have some sense of loyalty and affection.
Amitabha, the rest is up to Hong Lian to handle!
It was also time to leave this realm.
Perhaps someone in the human world knows about my past.
