I brought Old Li to the small pond. Liu Mei followed closely behind us. When we reached the edge of the pond, I kicked Old Li into the water. The pond instantly boiled with agitation.
"Ah—!" Old Li shouted as he flailed in the water.
"These are the vengeful spirits of the women you have wronged; accept their revenge!" I said with a cold laugh.
Under the moonlight, the ripples on the surface of the pond gradually faded, returning to calmness. Old Li also began to still.
Liu Mei crouched down, covering her face as she wept. The demon in her heart had finally been vanquished.
The night breeze swept through, and a wailing sound emerged from the pond, as if those restless souls were finding their release. I stood beside Liu Mei, a dull ache in my chest. In the end, I was still entangled in fate and faced its backlash.
I knew that after Old Li's death, all eyes would turn to me. But I left no incriminating evidence behind. There were no marks on Old Li's body, only signs of struggle in the water, his belly filled with it. Furthermore, it was determined that he had consumed a high concentration of liquor before his death.
Once again, it would be ruled an accidental death. Everyone was shocked. They clearly suspected me but could find no evidence against me. I stood among the crowd, and no one looked at me with suspicion.
I knew they couldn't connect me to the "murderer."
Liu Mei stood beside Old Li's body, tears in her eyes and a look of sorrow on her face, yet her heart was filled with excitement. I knew she had finally freed herself from the shadows of her past.
"I will definitely help you take revenge," I promised Liu Mei.
Now, I had fulfilled that promise. This was just the beginning. All those who had harmed them would receive their due punishment.
With the painful lessons learned from Wang Wancai and Old Li, the men in the village had become much more restrained. By nightfall, they dared not venture out carelessly. Yet, there were still some who were audacious enough to take risks, like the human traffickers who had kidnapped me. They continued their trade of abducting women, but they were becoming increasingly cautious.
As the protector of the abducted women, I would never let any of them go unpunished. The night was hazy when an old van slowly drove in. I concealed myself and followed them closely. They arrived at the same place where I had been kidnapped before.
They had brought along a young girl, dressed only in a thin top despite the winter chill. When she was carried out of the van, she was already crying to the point of exhaustion.
"This girl is too stubborn; she keeps crying non-stop. I had no choice but to wait until she was too weak from the cold before making my move."
"You're quite something."
"We'll go inside in a bit and check the goods properly."
They leered as they led the girl into the house.
One of them began to strip her clothes off while the others stood at the door smoking.
"Damn it, she's been used!"
The one inspecting cursed.
The girl was in tears, her hair a tangled mess, huddled in a corner, hugging her knees and trembling.
"Please, let me go... I'll give you anything..."
She pleaded desperately, but no one paid her any attention.
"Since she's not a virgin, let's have a taste before we sell her."
Several of them chimed in agreement.
I scoffed quietly.
These beasts deserve to die.
The girl cried, her face streaked with tears, shaking her head in despair.
Just as one of them, Scarface, was about to pounce on her, I summoned a gust of wind.
"What’s going on? Where's this wind coming from?"
They looked around in confusion.
As Scarface turned around, I appeared right in front of him.
"Who are you?"
He paused for a moment before realizing who I was.
"Oh, I thought it was someone important. Isn't this from Wang Wancai's place?"
He grinned lewdly.
"Are you here to serve the Brothers?"
A bald man approached, looking at me with a amused expression.
