I pulled Lin You out of the bridal shop, and she reluctantly said, "Anxin, what are you doing? This is such a great opportunity to try on some dresses!"
I frowned, gripping her arm tightly and dragging her away from the store until we were a good distance away before stopping. Little Qiongqi, having distanced itself from the shop, seemed to settle down again, which indicated that there was indeed something off about that place.
Shaking my head, I replied, "I could see that those wedding dresses were made from white Ghost Money, and the two dresses they showed us had bloodstains on them."
"Ghost Money? And blood? How did I miss that?" Lin You exclaimed, her mouth agape as she looked back at the shop with a hint of fear. She whispered, "Are you sure you didn't make a mistake? I heard that your Eerie Aura has diminished a lot; can you still see things clearly?"
"Though it's a bit blurry, I can't be mistaken. I saw it clearly last time."
Lin You dramatically shivered and clung to my arm. "Thank goodness you're here; otherwise, if I had worn one of those dresses and found out later, I would have freaked out. Let's get out of here."
As she pulled me along, she continued, "But why would they use Ghost Money to make wedding dresses? And how come so many customers didn't notice? Is the shop owner actually a ghost?"
I shook my head in confusion. "I didn't sense anything unusual from the staff in the store, and I haven't seen the owner, so I'm not sure."
While listening to me, Lin You took out her phone to search for information about the shop. "Look, the online reviews are quite high; not a single person mentioned that those wedding dresses were made of Ghost Money. What should we do?"
"I'll need to ask Jun Chong for a definitive answer. Right now, my Eerie Aura is insufficient; I can't see some things clearly."
"Anxin."
Lin You put away her phone and wrapped her arms around mine, looking at me with her long eyelashes fluttering but without a smile.
"I overheard a conversation between Su Ziqian and someone else before. They mentioned that you actually have a very refreshing and pure spiritual energy within you. Normally, someone like you should have clearer vision after losing the Ghost Power, so why has it become blurry?"
Lin You's words reminded me of what Jun Jun and Lianchi had said before—that I had a very clear and pure spiritual energy hidden inside me. Lianchi even mentioned that it was somewhat similar to that of the Su Family, but I didn't feel anything myself. All the blurriness appeared after I lost too much of the Eerie Aura.
"I don't know. When I didn't have the Eerie Aura, I couldn't see anything at all. Later, Jun Chong injected Eerie Aura into me, and gradually my vision became clearer. I could even see the auras of different races and the death energy above people's heads. Now that I've lost the Eerie Aura, everything has become unclear again. So they must have been mistaken! How could I possibly have such pure spiritual energy?"
I smiled and chose not to dwell on the question; it wasn't important to me. All I wanted was to be filled with Eerie Aura because only then could I be close to Jun Chong. As his wife, how could I not carry his scent?
Hand in hand with Lin You, we walked forward in silence. Lin You didn't speak, her smooth brow slightly furrowed, her dense eyelashes casting shadows over her rich pupils, hiding her contemplative expression.
It wasn't until we passed two intersections that she suddenly said, "Anxin, do you think it's possible that someone did something to you, completely suppressing your spiritual energy? Is there anyone who has given you their spiritual energy during this time?"
I tilted my head and thought for a moment; it seemed there was someone—Jun Jun. However, Jun Chong had said that the Demon Fetus Power Jun Jun gave me had disappeared from my body, so it probably had nothing to do with what Lin You was saying.
"No."
Lin You looked at me in confusion, unable to read anything from my face. Finally, she squinted and smiled, "Anxin, I'm feeling a bit shaken up; treat me to a drink."
"Sure! Where shall we go?"
"How about this place?"
I looked up in the direction Lin You pointed at and saw the six large characters spelling "Fourth Cafe." My brow furrowed slightly as I tugged at Lin You's sleeve. "Can we go somewhere else? I felt really uncomfortable the last time I went into this shop."
"Ah, there's a promotion going on! With such a big discount, let's just go in, buy something, and leave. It won't take long!"
I couldn't refuse Lin You. I still remember how uncomfortable it was the last time we entered; this store has a barrier, and I could feel a slight pain on my skin as we approached.
But as soon as I stepped inside, I was stunned. The air was filled with the aroma of coffee and a light floral scent—where were the smells of Blood Taste and decay?
"Are you feeling unwell?"
"No."
"Then that's great! Hurry up and get in line."
Lin You pulled me toward the queue. I stood there dazed, slowly closing my eyes to take in the sensations around me. The result was the same: a pleasant, refreshing scent that lifted my spirits.
"What happened last time?"
I muttered to myself. Even if I lost my Ghost Power, it shouldn't feel this different. Besides, the Ghost Power from Jun Chong hadn't completely vanished.
This store had been strange from the very first visit, and returning felt just as peculiar—only this time, it was much more comfortable.
Little Qiongqi lazily stretched, showing no signs of the rage he had displayed at the wedding dress shop.
He was an Ancient Beast; although smaller now, he remained sensitive to danger. The wedding dress shop had made me uncomfortable, which triggered his anger. But here, feeling at ease seemed to calm him down as well.
"Miss, you can place your order quickly here."
The Long-Haired Waiter walked into the long line with a menu in hand, making it convenient for customers just like at KFC.
I sniffed the air and caught a delightful scent coming from him.
He smiled brightly at me and Lin You, extending the menu towards us. His long black hair was tied back with a rubber band, and his black-and-white uniform accentuated his slender figure. His fair skin had a translucent quality, and his smiling face was as beautiful as a blooming ice lotus. His androgynous voice made it difficult to determine whether he was male or female at first glance.
"Thank you." Lin You took the paper from him, glancing over it while asking, "What do you recommend here?"
"Anything with a crown is our signature dish. The coffee here is personally ground and brewed by the owner, and it has a unique flavor that you should try. However—"
He suddenly glanced at me, his arched eyebrows resembling crescent moons, sparkling and clear. "If you don't like coffee, you can also choose our Flower Tea. I guarantee you'll find it unforgettable; it refreshes both body and mind."
"Flower Tea?" I asked suspiciously, then blurted out, "Is it made by you? You always smell so fresh."
His smile faltered slightly, the light catching his dark pupils and reflecting an unusual brilliance. But it was only for a moment; prolonged exposure to light could be uncomfortable for his eyes.
"I made it. Would you like to try some?"
So Lin You and I each bought a cup of Flower Tea and a cup of coffee, leisurely walking out of the Fourth Coffee Shop. The black sign above the door still had its non-mainstream horror theme, but the atmosphere inside was no longer that of hellish darkness.
As for the Flower Tea, I couldn't tell what flowers or fruits were used to make it, but it was fragrant on my palate, filling my breath with floral notes that lingered delightfully.
Upon returning home, only Taotie was busy in the kitchen. After asking around, I learned that Jun Chong and Shizui had something to attend to and might not be back tonight. I didn’t mind much; after all, they had important matters to deal with.
After eating and taking a shower, I climbed into bed and fell asleep. Tomorrow was Fang Shasha's wedding, and Lin You and I had picked out a gift for her. It wasn't expensive, but it was the thought that counted.
The next day, when I finally got up from my lazy sleep, Jun Chong had just returned. Seeing the exhaustion in his eyes made me hesitate to ask him anything. Instead, I pulled him onto the bed to rest. "You get some good sleep; I'm going out to feast."
Jun Chong pinned me down on the bed and kissed me for a while before reluctantly letting go. "Come back early."
"Okay."
"By the way, Qiongqi is with Tao Wu today; I asked him to find something, so he won't be following you."
Only then did I realize that whenever Jun Chong appeared, Little Qiongqi was always right behind him, but now he was nowhere to be seen. I smiled and nodded. "Your little shadow! He follows me around all day just to sleep."
"He has lost too much spiritual energy. He can only recover faster in that state while resting. We discovered Miasma yesterday and are currently investigating it; we will need Qiongqi's strength when the time comes."
"Got it." I wrapped my arms around Jun Chong's neck, snuggling against his chest as I softly said, "Don't rush things; there's always a way out. We will succeed."
"It's getting late; you should go!"
Lin You and I arranged to meet at the hotel entrance. Fang Shasha's husband came from a wealthy family, so they booked the best hotel in The City.
Lin You looked up at the magnificent hotel in awe and exclaimed, "So many people want to hold their banquets here, but it's just too expensive. Being rich is really nice."
"Don't act like you're a pauper; your family is quite well-off," I teased, giving her a gentle push. "Just have Su Ziqian take care of you, and from now on, you can just snap your fingers and be treated like royalty in places like this."
"Tch," Lin You scoffed, rolling her eyes as if she couldn't care less.
Sometimes, I really wanted to ask her what her feelings for Su Ziqian were. Was it because of Ling Feng that she felt a sense of gratitude towards Su Ziqian, which kept her by his side?
But I knew that I would inevitably stir up some unpleasantness with the Su Family, and I didn't want Lin You to feel embarrassed. Some things, once brought up, would only reopen old wounds; Ling Feng's death was ultimately a regret.
"Hey, I heard this hotel is the one from 'The Vanished Bride'!"
"I think I've heard that too, but isn't that incident fake?"
"Which hotels like this are ever clean? They probably spent some money to silence people. I read online that the incident was real; someone anonymously posted a photo of the bride left on stage, and the wedding dress was made entirely of white Ghost Money. But that photo was quickly deleted, and the person who posted it had their account banned."
As Lin You and I were about to enter the hotel, two young women nearby were discussing this, seemingly just passing by.
I hadn't paid much attention to the Vanished Bride story afterward, but suddenly remembered what Fang Shasha had said before: all her wedding dresses were provided by that bridal shop, and those dresses were made of Ghost Money. She wore one and was now in this hotel; my heart raced at the thought.
Without hesitation, I pulled Lin You into the lobby. There stood Fang Shasha, linking arms with her husband Yang Feng as they welcomed friends and family, her face beaming with happiness. She wore an elegant white wedding dress—real fabric, not made of Ghost Money.
In an instant, my heart relaxed; she wasn't wearing one after all.
