It burned, completely burned.
The Noble Scholar could no longer find any reason to suppress the fury within, like a volcano that had suddenly erupted. A century's worth of classic insults was revisited without omission, along with a plethora of newly coined phrases.
The BOSS had been stolen.
All the equipment had been taken.
Not a single one was left behind.
And he still didn't know who the culprit was.
The feeling of being crushed under four mountains was unbearable for the Noble Scholar. It seemed that mere "humiliation" was insufficient to describe it; the four standards of the New Era's Loser were written out in plain sight, twisting his heart into knots.
"Surely I should know what the person looks like?" The Noble Scholar was unwilling to accept this and thought about digging out this shameful individual. Not to mention a thousand cuts, he would at least dismember them!
But then...
"President, they were wearing a mask."
The Noble Scholar collapsed, his eyes wide open as if he had seen something utterly terrifying, petrified on the spot for quite some time without moving.

When Yi Tianchen left Ruinous Ridge, it was already one o'clock in the afternoon.
Originally, the three of them—Yi Tianchen, The Terminator of Regrets, and Not a Master—had been together, but now they had scattered. However, one person was stubbornly following Yi Tianchen without letting go. In just ten minutes' time, this person had rushed over with great enthusiasm and vigor.
“First Person, how is it? Are you satisfied?”
The voice came from the archer Proud Dragon, who had been eagerly eyeing the Simple Gem in Yi Tianchen's possession, as well as the exquisite equipment that Lord Yozar of the Corpse Ridge might drop. Even from a distance, his voice was filled with anticipation.
“You're here pretty quickly!” Yi Tianchen smiled.
Proud Dragon paused for a moment, quickening his pace as he asked, “You’re not thinking of breaking our agreement to keep that equipment for yourself, are you?”
“Not at all.”
Yi Tianchen chuckled lightly, pulling out a long spear that shimmered with a purple-gold hue from his bag. He shared its attributes and continued, “Knight's Guardian, Purple Gold Equipment, attack 1910-2550, Level Requirement level 50, exclusive to knights…”
“What are you trying to say?” Proud Dragon was taken aback; he couldn’t use the spear.
“A spear is a weapon, and it’s of no use to you. Let’s say I bought it!” Yi Tianchen laughed heartily and then pulled out several pieces of equipment, showcasing each one. He continued, “Now tell me, how much do you want?”
“I’ll trade it for the Simple Gem!” Proud Dragon grinned.
“That won’t work.” Yi Tianchen pretended to be troubled and explained, “As you can see, this spear requires level 50. If I put the Simple Gem on it, wouldn’t that be perfect?” He looked at Proud Dragon and added, “Think about it; in this situation, I would definitely prioritize my brother first, right?”
“Uh…”
Proud Dragon hesitated, feeling a bit uneasy. Earlier, when he heard Not a Master mention some kind of Rotten Sword that needed this gem, he had worried but hadn’t seen the actual item yet. Now that this weapon was right in front of him, the persuasion was undeniably stronger.
“We had an agreement beforehand; all the equipment belongs to me.”
"Yes! Didn't I just buy it from you? What's wrong? Are you unwilling to sell it? Or do you just not want to sell?" Yi Tianchen said with a slight smile.
Proud Dragon felt tears streaming down his face. How was he supposed to interpret that? Unwilling to sell or just not wanting to sell? Regardless of how he understood it, one thing was clear: the weapon was now in someone else's hands, and whether it was sold or not seemed no longer up to him.
If he sold it, it would be a favor; if he didn't, the person might not even give him other equipment. Although there was a prior agreement, they had no real evidence!
If he had known earlier, he should have recorded a video; that would have been a backup plan.
"Well?" Yi Tianchen pressed.
"Of course I'll sell it! Why wouldn't I?" Proud Dragon sorted through the pros and cons and chuckled, "Anyway, I can't use this gun. Since First Person wants it, let's consider this deal done. However... First Person also mentioned that if I could take down the BOSS, I would get my share after passing the trial, right?"
"That's correct. Although I ultimately took the lead, your contribution cannot be denied; you should definitely have a share in this."
"Hey, once I join Mist of Time, do I get priority access to Simple Gem?" Proud Dragon pondered. Although he was used to living a solitary life on the fringes, for some reason, his determination to join for that Simple Gem was strong.
"Well... theoretically that's how it works, but joining the guild..."
"Uh... wasn't it agreed beforehand? As long as I pass the trial, I can join the Guild. Are you going back on your word, First Person?" Proud Dragon suddenly felt a bit flustered inside. How many guilds had sought him out before? Now he was the one seeking to join and couldn't even find the threshold.
Everything was in disarray; completely chaotic.
But little did Proud Dragon know that Yi Tianchen's mind wasn't exactly at ease either. Logically speaking, since the other party had already agreed to join, it would be best to go with the flow. So why create such a situation that left both of them feeling uneasy?
There were naturally some subtle things at play here. As a well-known Fringe Character, they had never lacked invitations from guilds. However, none had succeeded—or their chances were too slim—because they had never truly shed their Ordinary Mindset from deep within.
What is the Ordinary Mindset?
For Fringe Characters, their Ordinary Mindset is that when someone tries to recruit them, it’s simply because they see their strength and want to use them for their own purposes.
Typically, when faced with such situations, a natural sense of resistance arises. Each Fringe Character possesses enough pride in their abilities, which fosters a mindset that makes them hard to sway. The more effort someone puts into recruiting them, the less effective it becomes.
However...
If they were to propose joining on their own accord, the situation would be entirely different. Not only would it resolve all issues seamlessly, but it would also help solidify their commitment, preventing them from being half-hearted or fickle.
"In that case..." Yi Tianchen suddenly raised his head, his gaze stern as he said, "Have you really made up your mind? Don’t feel pressured; I’ve never liked forcing anyone."
Proud Dragon was taken aback, looking at the long spear in Yi Tianchen's hand. Internally, he felt a mix of confusion and helplessness, tinged with an indescribable strange emotion. He silently thought to himself that while there was indeed no pressure, there was also an underlying threat!
"I've made my decision. I want to join Mist of Time. From this moment on, I am a member of Mist of Time in life and death!"
System Notification: Player [Proud Dragon] has applied to join the mercenary group. Do you agree?
