Chapter Fifteen: Power Station (Part Four) 0

The heavy truck sped forward like a wild beast that had broken free, crashing through the iron gate and crushing everything in its path. The zombies blocking the entrance were no match for the truck, which rolled over them, turning them into a puddle of flesh. 0

As the truck smashed through the gate, it shook violently before plowing into the mass of bodies and bursting into the courtyard. Several cars parked in front of the White Tower became crumpled wrecks as the truck slammed into them, dragging them along and leaving long trails of blood on the ground. 0

Both Ming Junwei, who was driving, and the Five-Man Team in the cargo area stumbled from the sudden stop, nearly tumbling out of the truck. 0

Despite the heavy casualties among the zombies at the entrance, many more were still wandering around in front of the White Tower. The moment the truck halted, they became excited, stretching out their arms and rushing toward it. 0

The team quickly entered combat mode; they had to rescue Bai Yudong and his companion before the horde of zombies that had been left behind arrived. If they failed to act now, they could easily find themselves surrounded. 0

Chao Yifan and a soldier armed with an 81-style rifle opened fire first, their bullets tearing through the approaching zombies. They swiftly cleared out those in front of the truck before both jumped down. 0

Jiang He and the others followed closely behind. Ming Junwei leaned out of the driver's seat and shouted, "I'll be waiting at the front! Hurry!" He then retreated back into the cabin. The truck roared angrily as it crushed several zombies under its wheels before reversing back to the open iron gate. In front of their astonished eyes, he raised the cargo bed and dumped a load of ash right at the entrance, sealing it off completely. 0

"Get out of the way!" Ming Junwei shouted again as he turned the steering wheel and charged forward, knocking over numerous zombies. He made a sharp turn and drove down a side alley, stopping in front of what he had mistakenly thought was the main entrance. The little boy strapped in his seatbelt sat there blankly, looking at Ming Junwei with admiration in his eyes. 0

Jiang He's aim was atrocious; he fired his 81-style rifle at a charging zombie but missed every shot aimed at its head. Frustrated, he kicked and cursed before smashing his rifle butt into the zombie's skull, retreating to the steps in front of the White Tower. 0

The zombies in the small courtyard had been run over by the truck multiple times. While not all were eliminated, it significantly reduced pressure on the five-man team. The wandering zombies had been cleared out, leaving only a few mangled ones crawling forward with their bloodied bodies. 0

With no time to deal with these 'stubborn corpses,' Jiang He kicked open a glass door and shone his flashlight inside. 0

"This way," Chao Yifan called out as he followed closely behind, illuminating a spiral staircase on one side of the lobby with his flashlight. 0

Jiang He led the charge up the stairs with Chao Yifan right behind him; the other three followed closely. Just as Jiang He leaped up from the staircase, he nearly collided with a lunging zombie. Chao Yifan reacted swiftly, shooting it in the head and splattering blood all over Jiang He's face. 0

“Pah.” Jiang He wiped the dirt off his face with his sleeve and gave Chao Yifan a thumbs-up. 0

The second floor was a restaurant, and the flashlight revealed neatly arranged round tables and individual booths separated by screens. From the layout and style of the furniture, it seemed to be a place similar to a banquet hall, with a floor made of polished marble tiles. 0

Several women dressed as etiquette instructors, resembling Zombies, knocked over tables and chairs as they surrounded Pan Luo, who was being fed bullets one by one. 0

A roar from the Zombies echoed from upstairs, followed by two gunshots, after which Bai Yudong's voice came through. 0

“Little Russian?” 0

The warriors who had escaped with Chao Yifan were overjoyed and shouted back, “Vice Commander! We're here! Hold on!” 0

The five of them rushed up the stairs but came to an abrupt stop at the top, then hurriedly ran back down. 0

The third floor was small; on either side of the staircase was a corridor lined with the most common offices found in party and government buildings. At the staircase entrance was a restroom. As they reached the top of the stairs, they saw the corridor packed full of Zombies, causing their scalps to tingle in fear as they turned and fled. 0

“Damn! So many!” Jiang He scratched his head and tossed the Type 81 rifle to the warrior called Little Russian. 0

Little Russian's gun had run out of bullets, and using it now would be too wasteful. 0

Zombies upstairs heard the commotion and peeked out from the staircase before wobbling down. 0

Song Yao picked up a wooden chair and swung it at one of them. The hard surface of the chair made intimate contact with the Zombie's face, knocking it to the ground. Pan Luo quickly followed up with a finishing blow, smashing the Zombie's skull with his rifle butt. 0

“Where's the conference room?” Jiang He asked. 0

“The third room on the left... There weren't this many when we ran earlier,” Chao Yifan replied, wiping sweat from his brow as he scanned their surroundings. 0

"Do we have any grenades?" Jiang He suddenly asked. 0

"No, and even if we did, it wouldn't work! Do you want to blow up Vice Commander?" Little Russian rolled his eyes and readied his gun, preparing to confront the Zombie. 0

"Wait, wait!" Jiang He called out, rushing toward the operations room at the side of the staircase. 0

The second floor was a banquet hall, with tables and chairs occupying most of the space, while the small remaining area was undoubtedly the operations room. Having worked in a hotel kitchen before, Jiang He navigated through with ease. After checking around and finding no Zombies, he grabbed a few sharp knives from the stainless steel workbench and tucked them into his waistband. Then he pulled out a gas canister from under the counter. 0

Although this was where the leaders dined, it was unlikely that there would be a gas pipeline on top of this desolate mountain. Jiang He guessed correctly; shining his flashlight on the gauge of the gas canister revealed that it was still more than half full. He dragged it out with some effort. 0

"Damn," Chao Yifan exclaimed excitedly, rushing over to help. 0

Song Yao and Pan Luo kept watch at the top of the stairs as the three men carried the gas canister up to the third floor. They opened the valve and pushed it hard into the Horde of Zombies. 0

"Vice Commander! Get down!" Little Russian shouted as he retreated to behind the stairs, aiming at the gas canister rolling into the mass of Zombies. 0

Some of the Zombies turned and lunged at them. Jiang He and Chao Yifan took off running, pulling down Song Yao and Pan Luo to take cover in a corner of the banquet hall. 0

Little Russian squeezed the trigger, hitting the gas canister. A flash of fire erupted followed by a deafening explosion. 0

Jiang He and the others felt as if the Small Building shook slightly, their eardrums ringing from the blast. 0
