Chapter Sixteen: Power Station (Part Five) 0

Four meters—neither too high nor too low. If there were some cushioning or if the ground below was a pool of water or sand, the group from Jiang He might have felt a bit more confident. But this vertical drop was different; there was no cushioning, and they had to jump into the truck bed. If they miscalculated and landed on the edge of the truck… Jiang He couldn't bear to think further; all that filled his mind was the word 'crash.' However, the Zombies above and below them clearly wouldn't give them much time to consider their options. Time ticked away, and more Zombies gathered on both sides of the alley. If they didn't jump soon, even getting the truck out would be difficult. 0

"Jump! Don't look down, it's not high!" Bai Yudong urged anxiously, trying to reassure everyone. 0

Chao Yifan magically pulled a gun from his pocket and leaned against the window. "You go first; I'll cover you." 0

With gritted teeth, they stopped hesitating. Pan Luo was the first to grab the tablecloth and climb out of the window. 0

The warrior who jumped down first signaled Ming Junwei to reverse the truck a bit more. Pan Luo shut her eyes, screamed, and let go. 0

Bang! At the moment Pan Luo fell, the warrior stepped forward just in time to catch her. The young girl twisted her ankle but was otherwise unharmed. Still shaken, she waved her hand to indicate she was okay. 0

Next were Song Yao, Jiang He, and Little Russian. All three jumped down safely and hurried to clear off the Zombies clinging to the side of the truck. 0

The tables and chairs at the stairway had been knocked over, and a Zombie had already squeezed half its body through. 0

Chao Yifan raised his gun and shot it right in the forehead. The Zombie fell backward, crashing into those behind it. 0

"You jump first," Bai Yudong said as he wrapped the tablecloth around his wrist and shook his head. 0

Chao Yifan didn’t waste any words; he stuffed his gun into Bai Yudong's pocket, grabbed onto the window ledge, and began to maneuver down using the tablecloth. Bai Yudong struggled alone with the tablecloth; his face turned a deep shade of purple as it tightened around his wrist, making his knuckles turn white. 0

The fabric of the tablecloth began to tear with a ripping sound. Chao Yifan was startled and muttered an expletive before quickly letting go. Unfortunately, he landed right in a pile of Zombies next to the truck. 0

Jiang He and Little Russian were standing at the edge of the truck using their Wooden Spears to skewer Zombies one by one when they suddenly saw a shadow flash past them. A figure landed directly on top of some Zombies, knocking several of them down with a loud crash. 0

Both were taken aback and looked up; there was no sign of Chao Yifan anymore. Instead, Bai Yudong was gripping the window ledge, preparing to jump down. 0

Fortunately, with the Zombie acting as a human cushion, Chao Yifan did not suffer serious injuries. He quickly scrambled to his feet, pushed away a Zombie that lunged at him, and turned to climb onto the edge of the vehicle. 0

The two were startled and hurriedly used their Wooden Spears to stab down a few Zombies that were gnawing at Chao Yifan's backside, pulling him up in the process. At the same time, Bai Yudong whistled and jumped down. 0

From the rearview mirror, Ming Junwei saw that everyone was accounted for and immediately stepped on the gas to push forward. 0

It was a forceful push indeed. 0

A number of Zombies had already gathered in front of the truck. Although the large vehicle was heavy, it had no room to accelerate and could only rely on its powerful engine to inch forward. The Zombies in front did not dodge; their nails scraped against the vehicle's body, producing an excruciating sound. Ming Junwei straightened the steering wheel and slammed on the gas again. 0

The truck belched out a cloud of exhaust smoke, knocking over the obstructing Zombies, rolling them under the wheels and crushing a bloody path through them. 0

The few people standing in the back of the truck felt a wave of nausea; the squelching sound when the wheels made contact was too vivid. Jiang He could almost imagine the splatter of guts when a Zombie was flattened by the tires. 0

After all, it was a heavy-duty truck. Once the Zombies blocking its path were crushed into mush beneath the tires, speed finally picked up. Ming Junwei sharply turned the steering wheel to avoid an electric gate and drove down a road that plunged into darkness. 0

The Zombies on either side of the truck were either stabbed down by Wooden Spears or knocked over by the vehicle. Although their speed could not match that of the truck, those that managed to get up continued their relentless pursuit until the truck drove farther away, completely disappearing into the night. 0

The group that had escaped from danger slumped in the back of the truck, looking at each other's sweat-soaked faces before bursting into laughter. 0

Their laughter contained joy, helplessness, and bitterness; as they laughed, their voices gradually quieted down. 0

Surrounded by endless darkness, they found themselves completely out of resources after their ordeal at the Power Station, having gained nothing and ultimately fleeing in disarray. 0

However, at least no one had died, which was a small blessing amidst their misfortunes. 0

After driving along the dark road for ten minutes, Ming Junwei stopped at a bend in the mountain road. 0

The headlights illuminated the path ahead, where rubble from fallen trees blocked the way. 0

Everyone looked up; there were signs of soil sliding down from the mountain above, clearly a result of the heavy rain from a couple of days ago. 0

Moving the logs of rubble wouldn’t take much effort, but they didn’t do it. After all, their goal was the supplies in the Living Area, not to steal a Heavy Truck. 0

Zombies wouldn’t chase after losing their target for long; they might return to the White Tower or wander along the small paths. The group took a moment to rest, some sitting while others stood, then gathered together to discuss their next move. 0

Although they hadn’t gained anything substantial so far, at least they had figured out the direction of the Living Area and the scale of Zombies in the Power Station. Perhaps there were scattered Zombies in the Plant Area, but it shouldn’t be more than what they had just encountered; after all, this was a Power Station, not a village. 0

The only weapons available to them now were four sharp knives that Jiang He had casually taken from the kitchen and the Wooden Spear they had previously crafted. The ammunition for the Rifle was depleted, rendering it merely decorative. Chao Yifan’s handgun still had four bullets left; he had specifically retrieved it from underwater before leaving the camp, but it clearly wouldn’t be of much use. 0

Ming Junwei was injured; being able to drive and provide support was already commendable, especially with An Zheng's Son as an added burden. 0

The warrior trapped in the building with Bai Yudong was called Big Mousy. He seemed to have some relation to Little Russian, with thick eyebrows and bright eyes that gave him a clever appearance. 0

Big Mousy pulled out a crumpled piece of white paper from his pocket and said, “I found this in the conference room; it should be useful.” 0

A few of them turned on their flashlights and gathered around to take a look. 0
